Yeah, it's definitely an experience but I'm not sure that timewise it makes sense, unless you're fishing the upper lake. We hiked out faster (in a snow storm) via the PCT then it took us to hike in.
@@highcountrychronicles We went down the right side, WAY easier. Started on the left from the top, and made our way more right as we scrambled down, then took went right around the bottom lake
I did this same route a couple years ago with some friends. We took the same route down the pass that you did after another hiker told us to stick to the left. Definitely one of the sketchiest things I’ve ever done! Respect

I’ve been bringing both and prefer the four for dries. I’m not a very accomplished nymph fisher but have it in my head that a five wt might work better for that application. If it’s something that you care to share in the future, I’m sure some of your audience like myself particularly enjoy your gear guides, as well as the commentary on specific flyfishing techniques that you employ at various locations. I was curious if you’re using a weighted nymph as it appears that you’re using a floating line. Nice fish at the end of day 2.

Yes. It certainly is! Yeah, they're mostly rain and snow melt. There may be some springs as well. At least at the first lake in this video. The stream below the lake was "springy" and marshy. You can see it in the Day 1 video. The stream had fish in it and more water than appeared to be flowing out of the lake.

I thought I knew where you were at the end of Day 1. Now I'm 99% certain. I had hoped to be there this year too as part of a longer 2 week hike, hitting those lakes on the way back. I really want to go in 2023. I really like your campsite at the end of day 2. Thank you so much for the video.

Talk about a nail-biter. Getting down to that first lake over the pass had me thinking, "I'd turn back." I'm not certain if you were planning on going beyond that lake but the steep scree slopes on both sides had me saying, "nope." You owe me a set of Lee Press-On Nails™. Glad you guys made it safely.

I did that pass in 2019 with a ridiculously big pack. Two weeks worth of food and a cheap Coleman tent. Definitely was a sketchy one overpacked like that!
Dang! Did you come over the way we did or stay to the right and go over the pass proper? I’m curious how it would have been if we went over the low spot. I understand it’s a slower decent.
I went the same way you guys did. I got sketched out on the loose scree and thought the boulders would be better. The Boulders were far bigger than I thought and a few were quite loose. Once I committed to the boulders though there was no going back 😂. Definitely staying on the scree next time.

Ok. That’s what I meant, from the top. You hit that first steep pitch at the top and then slowly went right? Right?
