Basically you control your guy from your enemy's perspective, and you always see from the closest enemy that is to your character, so as soon as you kill the enemy who's looking at you, it goes to the next nearest one. I like the subtext of the "immersive story" part. A lot of shooter games try to have engaging stories with some meaning, but for a lot of them, at the end of day, they're just about mowing down dudes with your gun. Not that none of these story-driven shooters work, I've played several that I have fully enjoyed, but they tend to make their stories feel hollow when the story feels comprised of quasi-related cutscenes used to string together segments of shooting things endlessly. Thus, in this vid, Kevin's character seems to be part of an enthralling story experience, but at the end of the day he just gets shot, because that's really what the game's about.
Can I play as the completely insignificant incompetent henchman who is practically blind in darkness, can't see a highly armed guy slightly crouching behind a chair (let alone hear him walk around with his 20 rifles)? I'd like to blindly follow obvious distractions into traps and then get my neck snapped without ever knowing what got me. Also, I'd like to go down from one shot, while said hunky over-equipped sneaky guy can take an entire magazine load and regenerate from it in seconds. That is, if my aim wasn't so horrible, I only hit every 20th shot. Actually, screw this, I'll play a zombie with no control over my actions. Funny thing is, there IS a 2nd person shooter that is f2p. You're seeing through the eyes of your enemies while still controlling yourself.

Perfect dark actually had a mode named Counter-Operative, that was technically second person. It was similar to the split-screen co-op mode, but player 2 would control the henchmen instead, allowing multiple respawns but you'd have the same amount of health as the standard enemies, and you'd have to stop player 1 from completing their objectives and finishing the level. For those who don't know what perfect dark is, it's the spiritual successor to Goldeneye, it's made by the same people who made Goldeneye and Timesplitters.

Well, scientifically, the only thing a second person shooter would do is the person shooting would be talking to you. Thereby breaking the fourth wall and the shooter you would be controlling, would also have to be an AI, so that game would actually be impossible.
but like tbh, a second person shooter would be having to control your guy, from the perspective of an NPC. like, from the NPC's point of view, a guy armed to the teeth walks into a room and then shoots you. and your view would then switch to another NPC. it'd be disorienting as fuck, but really cool imo
Second Person games have existed for 30 years though. Super Mario 64 is a second person game because you control mario from the perspective of Lakitu. The second boss in Battletoads is also an example of a second person perspective, because you see your character from the view of the boss.
True second person view is that you have the perspective of the person being shot, but you are actually still in control of the person doing the shooting. So you would see 'you' coming up and killing through the eyes of the person you were killing. I've played a game like that and it's a really strange perspective.

However, you soon notice that the car you're sitting in is a little bit slower with the turning than you'd like, it just barely works. But after a while, you realize, you're not controlling the car you're sitting in, you're controlling the other car, the one you're chasing! I think there was a body takeover game based on that, but I can't remember what it's called.
