Humans are not a 'warrior race', we are just very good at it because we had to deal with lions, bears, etc as we evolved. Eventually other humans were more dangerous than any other animals, so organized war was invented. So us humans have chosen to be peaceful and try not to wage war because of what happened in first contact. Edit: fear the enemy that just wants to be left alone and in peace.

Humans: A race of warriors that dream of peace.
warrior monks
Peace through superior firepower, you know.
No one craves peace more than soldiers/warriors, because only they know the true costs and horrors of war.
We are not warriors, we are survivors. It's just sometimes to survive, we have to fight.

As the mandolorians said "we are a peaceful people"
To be peaceful, one must be capable of extreme violence. If you lack that capability, you aren't peaceful; you're harmless.
