Are you as obsessed with this diverse cast as we are? :)
Refinery29 oh yes
I'm so excited for part two!
I literally got upset when I saw the to be continued. Can’t wait for the next episode, hope it come tomorrow
It's a little confusing
Cant wait for part 2. .
Gemma Chan make me feel like a peasant and I love it
have u watched the sc-fi series "HUMANS"? it REALLY utilized her ridiculous level of beauty to great effect.
sad
Asians of the day in regency England WERE peasants. But what are facts when agendists are busy remaking history into what it was not - especially when it comes to uplifting the non-white races into being of the elite when they were far from it. Very far from it.
@@jjai471 I see what you're trying to say, and in fact it could be seen that way. But this is fiction, and as I see from this short clip, the cast is perfect for the roles, omy, can't possibly imagine other actors playing the parts better, so... Also there has been a lot of shows and movies that historically shouldn't have been played by caucasian people but they were, and that's alright, as long as the role fits. I think equality will be more achieved if we stop focusing on these superficial qualities and see the actual qualities that matter, in their case, personality and talent.
This needs to be a full feature length film! These episodes are too short 🙁Besides that, everything was perfect - the music, acting, costumes, storyline, everything! 👌Can't wait for the next episode!

Watch the movie "Belle". It's such a beautiful movie. Dido Elizabeth Belle in the end of the XVIII century was a slave and a ship captain daughter, she grew up in high society beside her uncle.
@Ink Slingerr thank you. Black women was actually queen g.co/kgs/w31SbL
Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz was the wife of King George III. She was Queen of Great Britain and Ireland from her wedding in 1761 until the union of the two kingdoms in 1801, after which she was queen consort of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland until her
Dottie Ndots Historical accuracy? Europe was a melting pot and had a high population of people from Africa as well as Asia (whom England would have been trading with for years at this point). Hell, early King Arthur stories utilized middle eastern court ideals which is why we have stories like Gwain and the Green Knight (who is coincidentally going to be played by an Indian/British actor, so perfect casting tbh). It’s actually historically inaccurate to NOT have people from different ethnic backgrounds in period dramas. Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights is actually heavily debated to be biracial or of Asian descent due to the description of his skin and the sea port he is from in the book. Plays, movies, and popular culture just chose to erase any non-white people from the setting up until recently.
If people went to the theater more 🎭 this wouldn’t be so new to anyone!!
Yeah im sure brigerton saw this and was like "yeah just like that"
I've been seeing bridgerton everywhere and it reminded me of this so I came to watch it again 😂
Nah Shonda Rhimes needs to be imprisoned expeditiously, #that show is nothing alike
omg fr tho hahahaha
Can't agree more! Just wondering if one of the Brigerton's producers were making this. Perhaps. :P
Well, not quite. Julia Quinn, the author of Bridgerton, wrote all of the characters to be white. True to the era because Quinn is a historical romance writer. Until black agendist Shonda Rhimes got ahold of the story and make the queen, the male lead, half the ladies in waiting and more - black. That was not possible during that era, but what's facts when there's an agenda to push.
I see Gemma Chan, I click. Don't care what it's about, I love her elegance.
Colorblind casting and a boss director for the win! Amazing to see diverse actors playing roles in this time period. Gemma Gemma Chan
Colorblind history too! We should re-write the history books of 17th century England and make everyone believe that blacks and asians were a normal part of English nobility! That would be great wouldn't it?
I find it disgusting that everything is being black washed (or diversity washed) and white people demonised to the point of being erased in their own history. I won’t be watching this.
Love the diversity of the cast. Also, never seen an Asian cast in a period piece, let alone the female lead.
Wow, you're not much for international film, then, I guess.

And certainly none were English ladies. Just like there were no Europeans or Africans who were Chinese noblewomen. Ever seen a Chinese period drama? The casts are always 100% Chinese. Go figure!

It says something about the exposure I've had when I immediately assumed that the white dude was Mr. Malcolm. Pleasantly surprised
To be fair, they did angle the cameras and arrange the actors in such a way that your assumptions were only encouraged. But I agree, I was also pleasantly surprised by the mini plot twist! :)

Gemma Chan is a brilliant actress not to mention breath taking!
People only scream about "historical accuracy" when it comes to race, or when defending women being brutalized on screen. if you want TRUE accuracy, you'd see people dying of dysentery and syphilis, and people with rotting teeth and terrible skin. You'd also see women with no makeup, who've never shaved anywhere, or plucked their bushy eyebrows. If seeing a couple POC in a period piece offends you that much, I can guarantee it's not because of historical accuracy. Regardless, this is such a lovely piece. Well done!
And it's interestimg those people also overlook the thousand times white actors played POC, they say nothing about John Wayne and Yul Brenner playing Asians in period pieces
@@evaveres4875 Ah, so you're worried about historical accuracy. So, I imagine you were super annoyed that Alicia Nash in 'A Beautiful Mind' was not played by a woman who was from Central America. Or that the characters in 'Gods of Egypt' were entirely non-Egyptian? OH and Matt Damon saves China in 'The Great Wall'. Weird, right? Did it really rankle you when Johnny Depp played a Native American in the 2013 'Lone Ranger' movie? Or maybe did you not like it when Jake Gyllenhaal played a Persian in 'Prince of Persia'? Did you poop yourself when Christopher Abbott and Alfred Molina played Afghan people in 'Whiskey Tango Foxtrot'? And what about 'World Trade Center', where a real life black man was played by a white actor?
Or (LOL) maybe you, like so many other people, literally only care if it's asian or black characters playing out of time and space in a 'white people-only movie'. A FICTIONAL 'white people-only movie'. And, if this is the case, grow up and get un-racist, you baby.
well said!
@@evaveres4875 There's no point in arguing, really. I love how it was made sure that the protagonists were a black man and a asian woman - Cinderella made it better anyway. Ignoring the usual rubbish everyone spits these days with regards to "diversity" (basically, everything but white), this was really, really well done and it would be awesome to see more of it. Quite enjoyed it.
It’s not historically accurate but that’s what I love about it. It’s so refreshing and I honestly want more

This short film is so beautiful and means so much to me. As a black girl living in London ive always been obsessed with 17th & 18th century fashion , art etc. But i knew if I was alive during those times my life would look nothing like all the stories i fantasize. This short film gives me peace and healing, but more importantly it is a perfect illustration of that regardless of skin colour we are all the same ❤️❤️
maybe because the people of that time period are racist and unwelcoming. maybe you shouldn't romanticize it.
I don't know if it was that racist back then. No more than it is now. There were black people in Tudor England as well.
As long as you had money, you were ok, I think. Costume dramas do ignore POC but they tend to also ignore the poor people living on the fringes of society.
It's also a good way to blur the lines between history and fantasy. So when you say "But i knew if I was alive during those times my life would look nothing like all the stories i fantasize" - There are people out there who don't want you or others like you to know this. It's a nice way of re-writing history and confusing future generations. Imagine your kids or your grand children going around believing that black people were part of 17 and 18th century English nobility! So then they might wonder what happened? Did black people really get mistreated like some of the whiny snowflaky bitchy SJW types are claiming??? Maybe it's just exaggerated nonsense? Maybe its reverse racism against white folk? Maybe the civil rights movement is just a myth to promote the cause of black people for no good reason?
@@kikidee23 Yeah it was no different back then when people were shipped from Africa as slaves! That still happens today doesn't it? This article below describes what happened during the 17th and 18th century and I found myself wondering just like you and sayting to myself "but this still happens today"!
www.bbc.co.uk/history/british/empire_seapower/black_britons_01.shtml
And I know that some people would like to draw an inference from the fact that there were black Tudors to the conclusion that blacks were no more or less oppressed than white Tudors. It's telling how writers like Miranda Kaufmann can pluck out 10 historical examples from hundreds of records of black tudors and use those examples to argue that England was not a monoculture and was in fact populate by immigratns from Africa for many centuries - Yet there are people who want to conclude from this that therefore blacks were no more mistreated than white folks!
This is exactly why so much rests on understanding history and staying in touch with historical accuracy.

This movie, however, needs a Julian Fellowes level consultant on authentic Regency era behavior because Julia would never be seated with her knees crossed when receiving guests in her drawing room.
@@Orphen42O i was wondering if anyone else caught that!!
During regency era in England there were African British and Asian British people living in England. Some of them would have been wealth and mixed in proper/polite society so I don’t see how this isn’t historically un accurate
In History and the movie "Belle", Dido Elizabeth Belle at the end of the XVIII century was a slave and a ship captain daughter, she grew up in high society beside her uncle. This movie is officially one of my favorite period dramas films.
The 2nd Earl of Liverpool, Prime Minister of England, had as n Anglo-Indian mother Amelia Watts, and an Anglo-Indian grandmother "Begum Johnson". I believe he was one eighth to one sixteenth Indian.
Queen Charlotte, born a German princess, was visibly part African in ancestry. It is now believed that General Hannibal, Peter the Great's African slave, was her biological father or maternal grandfather. His famous great -grandson Alexander Pushkin was definitely of part African descent. There were two illegitimate Medici scions in the 16th century who had part African ancestry.
What the story doesn't tell me is how the youngest son of a British earl looks mostly African. Was his mother a second wife and a freed or a freeborn African woman? A rare marriage but such marriages happened in the later Victorian age.
The heroine being part Asian or Indian or African in ancestry can be easily explained. She was perhaps another Dido Belle, a much loved natural child made heiress by a self made father. Or the daughter of such a woman. Jane Austen's Sanditon features a West Indian heiress. The novel Jane Eyre has Bertha Rochester who is implied to have African ancestry. (Yes, I am aware this is Freida Pinto, who is Indian).
Nonsense, how can u make such mistake, it’s “inaccurate” not “un accurate”
