- Hello Art Friends! I'm Anoosha Syed, a professional children's book illustrator and today we are diving into a new sketchbook! I'll be honest, I haven't drawn in a sketchbook in YEARS, and in all my life I have never completed a single sketchbook.
Since I'm feeling stuck in my art, I thought it would be a good idea to get back to basics and start drawing in a sketchbook. My goal is to try to draw in it every day, and to complete it FULLY.
I already drew in a few pages, just because I was rusty and wanted to get used to drawing traditionally again.
Also I want to apologize for the bad audio and lighting!! It was a gloomy dark day for filming, and with me and my husband both working at home, it's hard to record when it's quiet.

Thank you so much!! Yeah I always have that feeling too! But i think what helps is getting a cheap sketchbook so you don't feel bad about 'ruining' it, or go in with the mentality that this sketchbook is for yourself and no one has to see your mistakes haha

oh my GOSH i feel that so deeply about drawing things for the sake of posting. i actually just got back to posting art recently after telling myself "if you're drawing and you think 'oh this would be cool to post,' you're not allowed to post it right away!'"
btw!!! your drawings are so lovely and charming!! it makes me a little sad when you said you made the "mistake" here or that you "should have" used a reference there. it's a sketchbook (that i just thought of calling a "stretchbook"). im still in my learning phase but i also HATE rules and "feeling the need to do XYZ" when it comes to art and sketchbooks are just... so freeing to me! i've finished a lot of sketchbooks in the last 10 years and tbh you decide what finished means. i don't always like filling blank spaces bc that's not important to me. "did i stretch enough in this book?" "what did i learn here, if anything (i always do)?" maybe it's easier bc im a painter so it's all traditional media for me. test out a new style, new materials, a new technique or skill you recently learned (i recently am getting the hang of oil pastel clouds so that's been my thing). i really like an ugly sketchbook lol...
i guess for people afraid to start the sketchbook, think about the fact in general that if you don't do anything with your materials, you won't learn. whether you bought an expensive sketchbook with the finest paper quality, or a handmade one you through together with copy paper you had handy. (BTW HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! thank you for posting these videos, you're mega knowledgeable and i hope you're having a great day!)

Hi dear, I love the content you put out here, but you might wanna invest in a new microphone. It seems like you're recording from your laptop, the sounds really turns down the quality of your videos.
