In all fairness to the z3, maybe keeping the phones on the side and thus allowing the back to get a bit cooled with air might make it last longer. Seen a video comparing the z3 and the z3c where z3 lasted about 15 mins and z3c about 19 mins in a room with a temperature of about 25 degrees. (trying to defend my sony phone. will be picking up the xz premium though. unless they pull off another monster with xz1)
Nik Kot cool man. I would have done it but the no international warranty is the only reason I did not. Since I am moving abroad for a couple of years. But IFA is before that. Let's see what Sony has to give. There is some new camera tech they are supposedly using on the xz1 I think.

I'm no reviewer but as a Xperia Compact X owner, I feel disappointed. Its rear Camera stopped working after about 4 months and the phone jack won't work with a lot of plugs that works normally in any other smart. I know I'm complaining about a low/mid range phone but considering its a recently released model carrying the sony brand, I was actually expecting a better product. I'm looking for a new phone right now since sony wont give me any warranty in a product that wasnt officialy released in my country.
I believe the reason why video sizes on XZs and XZp are significantly lower is because the video compression method is set to H.265 by default, you can change that on other phones too, unless that's what you've already done and XZp is such a beast of a phone. Not saying that it's already isn't :P Nice video mate!

Yeah, although i'm impressed with the result, I found last month when I picked up my XZP and took some videos in hot weather (sunny Manchester, UK around 28 degrees) my phone told me after 6 mins the camera was shutting down. In all fairness it was in a case and the day was hot. But I too would like to see the same test but outside in hot weather...other than that...the phone is a beast (and in Rob's voice from Comicsexplained.....Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!! lol)
i m not surprise at all , i m in Thailand the land of humidity and hot as hell over 35 C , my XZP can recorded 4K video for over 1.30 hr and stop record cus the memory is full haha

I saw some guy's post that sony implemented a new heat sync system to absorb too much heat and combined with the sd835 so it does do pretty well on your video ... Sony really is something...good job... I want to throw my xz now 😤

nice to see the 835 not getting hot , i find my s8+ exynos version also runs very cool , even using the dex for hours , it seems to make bugger all difference , about the only time i feel a slight tempreture change in the handset is when it's been charging for a while. going back to the test , some time ago a bloke in the comments mentioned his sony device over heating , he seemed to think the trigger was ehen the optical image stabilization was turned on with moving images. . nice test anyway sir .
Good job, well done video. I think you were using h265 codec on XZs and XZP. You can turn that on Z5 series as well. But codec is using more CPU so it should overheat.(AFAIK) But here it's a totally different scenario here. Good job Sony and they should use thermal paste for upcoming devices too.

A significant part of the heat comes from the screen, so it'll be a better real world feel on how long the 4K recording can go on for the XPeria's by using it propped up to record something bright and have it shown on the screen. When used in bright sunlight on a hot day, my XZ barely goes beyond 5 min.
After not using my XZ for over 2 months I decided to fire it up and see if it did any better!!! With air-conditioning on 24 deg C and a room temp of 28.7deg C my sony lasted 41 seconds at 4k. In your tests you do not take into account the ambient temperature at all.
Yes it is very Strange, as its not the only one I have had issues with. Even my older Z5 had similar issues. I have since gone to the Galaxy S8+ with no issues at all.
Bought the XZ premium. Better than my Z5. Still overheats once in a while. Not as bad as my previous xperias tho (had Z1s n a Z5). But the overheating thing kinda gets annoying now.

I have seen this kind of test before. Z3 always gives up before Z3+. Couple weeks ago on a cold day ( 18C) , my Z3+ after 38 min of 4K shut down cam because battery got 5% and memory was full. It was going to resist more...

Nice video but I'd like to have a real favour from you please. I have the Xperia xz and while it maybe able to record that impressively long video (though not as impressive as the xzs or the xz premium) I have found my phone to really heat up and the camera to become unusable when under the sun and or in higher ambient temperature as in summer. Could you please put the xz premium under that kind of a test and confirm if that problem is truly resolved? and if you could do it side by side the xz? let's say take them both to a really sunny beach or something... I think the battery life is pretty good, though not the best. for other flagship phones, I'd say slightly above average. I do plan on doing a battery life test at some point

Hello phone battles, is possible that xperia xzs and xz premium has the H.265 codec for 4K by default? This codec is more efficient than the H. 264 wich in other xperia comes by default on settings but this can be changed. The H. 265 claims to use half the storage than H. 264. Can you check this please?

this is the Z3v, which I think overheats faster than the regular z3. z3v has a modified z2 exterior and z3 internal specs

G6 doesn't have a cap, but the rest do (10 minutes or less). G6 doesn't seem to overheat but outputs files 11:53 at a time

I did also a test an get a CPU temperature of 84°C during 4k recording. But still no overheat warning.

S8+ only allows 10 minutes at a time but believe iPhone 7 is unlimited so may try that
