The stall when stopping...increase base timing by 2 degree increments which will increase idle speed, lower idle speed by the idle screw on carb. If you are giving it a bunch of idle screw it's just opening up the butterflies killing vacuum and reducing exposer of the transfer slot, which are all bad things. FEs like 12 base timing and 35 total, without vacuum advance added in.
Cool old car, my uncle has one in a coup that he bought brand new in 1969. His has the 428 CJ in it though. He had it repainted around 1985 but other than that it is still all original. I don't think it has even 50,000 miles on it. Good work putting yours together, have fun with it!
Pro trip on the modular valve, order one for a F250ish truck if you can't get enough rpms out of yours. I cant remember the color code for the truck units but they will allow for high rpm shifts if your car valve won't go past say 4500rpms. No need to shift higher than 5200, thats all she's going to give you with that cam.

turn the modulator valve screw in quarter or so turn
