Wow, that knocks Bachmann UK’s pantograph on their OO Class 90 out of the park! Your future UK EMUs (you are doing the Class 333, right?) need a similar feature! 🙂
This is the most similar locomotive to the E-32 Breda-Marelli (GAI) that we have in Chile !! It is very well done and many details, congratulations! the only detail that the main horn did not sound! hehe
As a juice jack modeler, i'm not as much a fan. Usually, the mechanisms add cost, decrease weight (reduce pulling power), and make it a pain to use the pantographs manually.
Our pantographs can be lowered by hand without damaging them. As for decreased weight, the mechanism is by ESU and it's very compact. We normally don't put weight up into the roof anyway. We hope you'll like them!
Great video and an awesome model! I live near New Haven and remember traveling on trains pulled by EP-5s. I always thought they were very cool! I have S-Gauge, (American Flyer), and I have an EP-5, but it doesn’t have as many features as yours. Best of luck, I hope you sell a lot of them.
Darn. Just when I had exorcised my fascination for Spanish Renfe clas 7800/278 Panchorgas (after a lifetime of my local Dutch NS class 1200s) and you put up a video of this...
As a modeller with a niche interest in electric railroading alongside conventional diesel electric railroading, these EP-5s do look tempting to have as part of an electrified district with freight electrics (such as the E-44 or E-33 wink wink, nudge nudge). As for when New Haven joined Penn Central, my understanding is that they joined the fold in 1969 and a condition of the PC merger by the ICC was including the NH (along with N&W taking control of the D&H and EL through Dereco)
Ya the NYC and PRR didn't really want to include the New Haven in the merger and the NH itself was already bankrupt. Approval by the ICC was conditional on the NH being included and they formally joined the PC system on Dec 31, 1968.
I’ve seen the painted preproduction samples at NERPM 2019 and the Amherst Railway Society 2020 shows and they caught me by surprise - even on film they’re stunning. How do the pantographs work, will there be a function where the engine can run off third rail/without them up?
The pantograph mechanisms can be deactivated when running in "third rail" territory. There is a switch on the bottom of the model which turns them off.
Will theses also have a function or a switch to disable the pantographs from going up so you don’t have to worry about clearance? Have a Merry Christmas everyone or a happy holidays!!!
At the moment we don't have plans for a GG1 as there already are a few models of these on the market, but we have other electrics we'd like to make in the future!
Wow, Great Video and Epic Locomotives! Well, now you know what this means, you'll have to start making the Catenary systems for these locomotives! 😁 Hoping these come out in N scale one day, and especially if you could make those British Columbia Railway GMD GF6C's! 😎👍
Hello Rapito trains that is a cool locomotive I hope it runs on DC and DCC layouts of the ep 5 electric locomotive I like the antennas on the locomotive I they are cool
Thanks! The PC models will have the dual pans as they seemed to have lost them sometime towards the end of their service lives. As late as 1973 the 4973 still had both pans installed.
I'm really looking forward to this. I jumped back into the hobby during the pandemic for the first time in 30 years, when I was 10 about, when I recently unearthed our old family locos and rolling stock (none of which are New Haven; we have mostly CN and other Canadian roads), and then discovered this upcoming Rapido loco a few months back which jumpstarted my new passion for NH and modelling. As a graphic designer, that NH McGinnis scheme just screams to me. I've pre-ordered one and got my hands on most of the trailing passenger styles, but I didn't recognize the "Parlor car" from anything I've seen. Is that an older, discontinued model?
Thanks for the support! The New Haven Parlor cars were released in HO a couple of years back. We're sold out now, but they might be found in stores or eBay still.
You know, I HAD and placed a reservation for a Metra Locomotive...and NEVER heard back from you guys if those came in or not! While I love your Models, you've got to be more in touch (I know because of Covid messes) with those who placed orders for your products! :)
We send email notification once the items arrive and are being prepared to ship. These are in transit from the factory now. While our website is temporarily down while an all new site is implemented, we do provide a complete delivery schedule for all Rapido products on our website and this should be back up and running in a few business days. We also send have our monthly email newsletter and post frequently on all our social media pages with product updates as they become available.
I have an EP-4 from MTH and the pantographs constantly fail, even after being sent back to factory for replacement. Here's hoping the extra time we've waited translates into reliable pantographs.
We've put a lot of time into making sure these operate reliably and have worked with ESU to design this feature. Of course if there any issues encountered in the future, we'll do our best to make it right!
@@rapidotrains It is a beautiful model! When I was working as a locomotive engineer for Conrail, I had the sad duty of taking the last remaining Jets to Naporano Iron and Metals for scrapping
I bet if it was fall when the yellow ep5 was painted it would have been better received. I personally like it, but living in Connecticut doesn't qualify me to force color pallets on people. Another outstanding model none the less!!
Rapido's secret is they took Wayne Szalinski's shrink machine and shrunk lots of prototypes. I know, one was leaking diesel fuel when it arrived in the mail. Anyway, I read in a model railroading book long, long ago published in the 1970s or 80s about some enthusiasts actually model working overhead centenary to power their electric models. The author said that was a whole other level of model railroading that was beyond the scope of the book. I wish I could find those old model railroading books, but the library disposed of them decades ago.

@@rapidotrains You might also consider the Milwaukee boxcabs. There is a set still in existence. The multiple configurations might even give you more flexibility, similar to selling B units for A units.

We aren’t set up for financing at this time, but it will be several months until the production models arrive so we recommend saving a bit up each month until then!
Very nice but someone who wears a shirt like that should be keenly aware that the New Haven ran into Grand Central "Terminal." If memory serves operating practice was to raise the other pan before lowering the first pan when changing ends, same as today. Inverters?
