12:50 - That suction line looks like it was soldered rather than braised. Wouldn't surprise me as just a few years ago none of this was inspected and anyone could go by the units and install them. Which is why so much of the ductwork is always hacked with flex and returns that are too small...
I have used blue dawn dishsoap to clean my condenser. Seems to get the dirt out and rinses well also better for the water table versus that acidic coil cleaner.
I usually hit it with a little simple green once or twice a year and rinse it completely on the condenser. Lately I have been trying out probiotic cleaners, however. I have a super mild one and then one meant for tougher stuff. I used the mild one on my mini split coil in the garage because it got stinky. It did work to clean that smell out after several days. It wasn't visibly dirty, just was getting some growth that smelled bad. Without acid probiotics are the only way to break down the biofilms on coils from what I understand. I'm just a DIY homeowner BTW.
Yes that blue coil cleaner ruins the coils. I never use it. I just use the hose or sometimes use the more mild evaporator cleaner on it. I sometimes get coils that are too filthy and need some sort of cleaner. But I use the evaporator strength cleaner on the condenser.
I wonder if Simple Green will eat the condenser if you don’t spray it all out? On my condenser I just spray it out monthly with water so it never gets dirty enough to use cleaner. I know it’s different for HVAC Service Techs that only come out when called by the customer.
Hi, I’m working on my condenser that uses a 10/50uf dual capacitor, can I use a new 50+5uf and add a 10uf capacitor for the fan and not use the +5uf on the 50+5uf? That’s all I have.
That will work as long as you jumper the two commons together like he did in this video and don’t use the 5 at all. If you use the 5 and 10 in parallel you would have 15. A few years ago Steve did a good video explanation of hooking up capacitors in series and in parallel that explains how to either add or subtract to make different sizes. If you ever have time search it out to get a good understanding of capacitors.
I know manufactures in Costa Rica still make R-22, it's cheap there about $40 for a 30lb. jug, People made money illegally importing it into the US, a stupid way to go to jail.
@@davidnull5590 R22 is available new on Ebay (and many supply houses) all day long, it's not against the law to buy it, sell it or use it, it's just being phased out.
@@dc6233 ---- For the last few years importing R22 into the US was banned, some criminal gangs made lots of money sneaking 40 foot containers of cheap R22 into the country. I wonder how much of the R22 on Ebay really is R22? Sadly there's lots of money to be made in fraud.
The installer should have put that condensing unit closer to the wall.

Yea... just a bit too close to the wall there. Nice video.... stay healthy Steve !!
Tech tip don't use the chemical that rots away the ac line. USE WATER FROM A GARDEN HOSE)
I just use simple green or a no rinse coil cleaner but still rinse it. That blue stuff eats the coils.

I use the self rinsing evap cleaner on everything. It may take more work to get tough dirt out, but the fins stay where they are.

Those Louvred sheet metal cabinets were really tough ,and helped protect the condenser coils from active kids, lawnmowers ,and pets lifting their legs.
Molly the dog is cute 😊

A lot of manufacturers say to just use water. No chemical.
