Yes, I am a five years late to this video. Still, I now own a SAK Huntsman and purchased the Firefly. Very much appreciated the video and learned how best to strike the Firefly, I was doing it on the wide side not the narrow side.
Such an absolutely awesome piece of kit to complement your Swiss Army Knife!! Victorinox should seriously consider adding these to their official stock at some point. I got these for my Huntsman model and use them a lot to ignite my alcohol stoves. It's also great to have these as a backup for your ferro rod when out in the field. Works great for throwing a concentrated amount of sparks on a smaller region like cotton wool, wood dust or other inflammable types of tinder.
Mine arrived today and I practiced with the orange helix tinder. Works well! Also I found that, if you cut off a quarter of the tinder, you can keep the little screwdriver. Still burns long enough to set a fire.
Firefly and tinder arrived today, very happy with the fit. I will most likely never need it as I have easier methods to start fires, but it's just nice to have some extra kit.
Great video. I recently bought a pack of fireflys. I have after market micarta scales in on my 91mm Ranger, the firefly didn’t fit in the toothpick slot so I just filed out the channel in the scales until it fits very snuggly.
I used a sharpening stone to quickly put a 90 degree spine on the fingernail file of my Classic SD. It works great as a striker. File the edge that closes into the scales so it stays firmly open against pressure when used as a striker. This prevents ruining the scissors, unless it's the only option.
Fantastic product, I plan to order a set. I wasn't going to bother with the small size since I didn't think my Rambler had a tool that would work -- never thought about the scissors! Remember -- if you need to cut a Firefly: Wear Eye Protection!
I bought a package of Fireflys and a package of FireAnts this month, and they all fit and work great! I prefer the Firefly over the FireAnt, and will be buying more to fit into future SAKs I purchase. The orange Helix tinder works very well, but I’m anxious to try some of the gray wind proof Helix tinder.
I will be honest I really like the thought of this product but I found the postage to the UK way to much when I used the postage calculator it was the same as the purchase price
It fit my 5 year old Huntsman Light perfectly but I had to cut about 1 mm off for it to fit my Swiss Champ that I have EDCed for 36 years. IMO, sizing information should be on the packaging. The years ago last time I replaced the pen, I had to carve some of the gray plastic end off so it wouldn't stick out. I think newer SAK'S have a good mm or two more space for the pen and toothpick.
The dry grass and even pine needles around here (SoCal) are horrible tinder to use with ferro rods. They generally don't take flame even if they've been sitting out in full sun and it hasn't rained for months. You need something fluffier/finer, and I always have a small hank of jute twine rolled up in my wallet. Fluff the end of that briefly and it always takes a spark. Of course, there's also no substitute for a small tin of Zippo fluid if you really need a flame/fire. I came to this video from Survival Russia's channel because he was recommending the Firefly. After watching this video, and seeing someone cut off a chunk of ferro rod that you have to pay money for, I'm thinking I don't really need a Firefly. ;-) My Bayite rod on my keychain (always with me) works much better, lasts much longer, and can even be taunted without breaking. ;-)
Hi, if the Firefly isn't your thing we've also designed one that goes into the corkscrew and comes with waterproof tinder. This Kickstarter project is live right now. Check it out! www.kickstarter.com/projects/fireant/fireant-accessorize-your-swiss-army-knife-with-fire
@@tortoisegear i am about to leave a review here soon on a legendary thing ur fire fly product is compatible with. An I guarantee once people see my review. UR gna sell a hysterical amount of them.
The best way to hold it is to notch out a branch or other stiff object 1/2 an inch or greater in diameter where it can rest flat against the full length of the firefly Firestarter significantly reducing the tension on the rod during the strike.
Have you folks tested how many strikes or fires can the Firefly provide before it becomes totally worn out? The Fireant yielded at least 100++ fires as YT's Felix. Immler.

Just bought three different packages / styles to see what works best. Brilliant idea
Excellent piece of kit. Rounds out the Victorinox beautifully. Well done.

Now, with that gadget it makes the swiss army knife a true survival pocket knife. 👌👍

The superglue trick was nice too. No more lost tweezers.

Awesome, just ordered a pack for my SAK Forester with ranger grips...smart tool bro. thanks
that's cool !
You think they would have allowed that as a multitool accessory on Alone?
On my Rambler and Huntsman I use the wire stripper as a striker.

I'd love a set of these, but the shipping to Australia kills it.
When will the three pack be back in stock?
WOW
COOL

I use a bucket of gasoline as kindling. Why do my hands keep getting burned? 🔥
Sounds like you were in my scout troop
Warning: does not sit flush in Rangergrip 58 Hunter without grinding down to fit
Yes, that's correct. Please watch till the end of the video for tips on a quick solution to this.
Tortoise Gear I must have missed that! I just ground mine down and it slid right in. No big deal!
