I was rage sewing before this video. I chose the rolled hem, and did it just as you directed. Much more peaceful process, and it saved my garment! Thanks!
You saved my life! I have 20in long curved “scalloped” panels for a maxi skirt and I was losing my mind on how I was doing to hem it I’m new to sewing and this is a life saver!
I have been subscribed for a bit now. I was sitting in my chair wondering about how to hem a curve, then refreshed my youtube feed and your video popped up. Great timing!!
Made my first ever garment (i'm v new to sewing) and this really helped - although it was still very hard, your tips were invaluable and saved the skirt I was working on!!
Brilliant.Ive been sewing for over fifty years and I've never heard of the method so you don't get unnecessary excess fabric to deal with.Another great vlog.
Exactly what I needed, exactly when I needed it. Your rolled narrow curved hem solution is WAY better than the Simplicity directions. In fact, I was so disappointed with Simplicity that I ripped the hem out and used your method. Wow! What a difference!
I have no idea how these work but omg amazing!!! I was struggling to hem a circle skirt that I was so enjoying making, and these hacks solved the problem perfectly. Thank you!
Saved my life! Easing it with the basting stitch was PERFECT. Thank you my friend. Haha I was going to slip stitch my circle skirt, but I realized it would take me a week given how big it is. I hmmed and hawed until I realized that Rick rack would totally match the cutesy/Kitch theme, so not only will it save me a week, but it'll be extra cute!
Tried the rolled hem for my skirt & it worked wonders! Thanks so much for the tutorial :-) I'll add that if you wanna save a bit of time you can turn your stitch length to the widest setting for the first 2, no one will know 😉
Thank you for such an informative (yet still concise) tutorial! I think people really underestimate easing fabric, but it’s such a critical technique for helping projects turn out their best.
Great timing! I'm needing to narrow hem a circle of silk chiffon. I've been concerned about how to keep a rolled hem from curling up. I can have a bit of trim around the edge so I just might try that. Thanks for the suggestion.
I’m struggling with sewing the hem of a round tablecloth I’m making out of fairly thick woven tapestry fabric (frays easily). I’m not sure any of these would work except the ribbon edge, but that won’t match my fabric. Any tips??
Hi, question. I’m new at sewing, and thought raw edges needed to have a finished edge (sewing loops on the edge of fabric). Why weren’t these edges finished? Is it not necessary?
The hemming process described in the video is a way to finish the edges. Sewing those loops with a sewing machine or an overlocker is a different way to finish edges. You can also do both but that is not necessary. Generally, hemming is better at the edges of a garment, while the "sewing loops" are often used on seams inside the garment.
@@ProfessorPincushionNo. But I think the problem starts with how I cut my fabric. I'll try to make another dress tomorrow and make sure I cut it properly, hope it works coz if not I don't know what else to do
This doesn't do anything about the extra fabric gathered in a dart tho?!?! You keep just "pin and sew on edge" but never say how to do that without the gather?

I think curved hems are my most hated thing in sewing
i just fucking ruined my peice
@@JadSid happens to all of us. Just pretend it isn’t there like the rest of us. You do not want to see the hems on some of my circle skirts dear lord

i'm just starting, sewing is truly not as simple as it seems :) time to rip my failed hem and try again, thank you :)

أفكار مفيدة وبسيطة في التنفيذ، لم أكن أتصور أن خياطة طرف القماش المنحني بهذه السهولة..
شكرًا شكرًا لك
Very nice tutorial! Even as a very experienced sewer I sometimes struggle with this too. So certainly gonna try your tips. Thanks!

Thank you, I learnt a lot from watching. I was struggling with a curved peplum edge and not quite knowing how to stitch it. Now I have some choices.
If you use horsehair braid, the wider varieties habe a thread in them to pull up to help your hem sit flatter
Brilliant! I never considered that the outside of the circle is larger!!
Tq for the tips. I almost ruined my fabrics when I decided to just do it without doing some research.
Couldn't be better instructional video. Much appreciated.

I always love your videos and I recommend your channel all the time to people. You have the best tuts out here.

Professor Pincushion you’re so welcome. You deserve the shares for sure. Thank you for your hard work.

Wonderful!! Been making my daughter circle skirts for a while and thought I just had to struggle through. Thanks!!
Beautifully simple video
The rolled hem!😳 genius method!!
I love the rolled hem. It always looks nice :)
Great techniques for hemming. Would the first one apply for knit fabrics?
Tracy Yarbrough I personally would use the rolled hem for knits and lightweight fabrics.
Thank you so much! I’m new to sewing and enjoy your channel very much. 😊
Meant to say enjoy this channel very much.
Tracy Yarbrough no problem. I love this channel too, even tho I’m a seasoned sewer I still watch. Learn things all the time.
Now that is a Great video, and a wonderful refresher course too. And since I do not have a serger, thank you so much
Very very useful video.. second method is just perfect!!

Revolutionary. Thank you
Hello madam,
Very useful video thank you
Can I apply the same technique for one inch ribbon?
The wider the trim, the harder it is, because you run into the same issue where you have more fabric than the space allows. Thinner trim is easier.
This helped me so much! Thank you!
Very informative! Thank you!
Mam do you sew in your first stiching line in lose thread of your first froq ? Please tell
on the hem where you stitch the basting thread 1/4 in - do the basting threads stay in?
Thank you so much for this! Really useful!
Such great tips, thank you!!

7-8-19 To Professor Pincushion Please do a video on how to cut fur cuffs and sew on a jacket sleeve.
The first method didn't work for me, too much fullness. I'm going to take the seam ripper and try the rolled hem.
Thank you really helpfull

Cool
I'm feeling hopeless, I've tried every steps and yet my hem are curling.
are you working with knit? You may want to try adding some knit interfacing on the wrong side to stabilize the fabric first.
