Just wanted to point out a couple things: -My helmet came with a pinlock ready visor (I bought it back in October 2015). -You can actually open and close the front ventilation, theres a switch on the inside of the helmet just above the chin curtain (which I see you removed). -Those big white things at the top can actually open and close as well as the vent on the back just under the spoiler, I find that it has plenty of ventilation when you have them all open and haven't had any issues with the visor fogging up. -I haven't had any issues with the chinstap rubbing in my neck, everyone has different heads and necks so you can't really blame that on AGV.
@@TheMissendenFlyer like what leon said and mine came with a pinloc and dark visor. The only problem i have is its not very good on a sport bike for me i find myself looking at/through the top of the pinloc so it distracts me 😮😮😮
I bought one of these and I've been using it nearly every day for the last two weeks. I wear glasses and I put them into the separate glasses slots in the helmet which keep them away from my face. They've never caused me any pain. I've never even felt my glasses when riding. When I first put the helmet on I did notice the strap was a little close to my throat like you posted out in the review, but I honestly stopped noticing at all after my first ride. Just thought I'd share my experience. I think this is a great helmet.
Thanks for sharing your experiences with this helmet - I don't think I've worn mine again since this review - it's just a garage ornament, such a shame as it looks great!
I have a HJC IS-17 Armada. Drop down visor - easy to operate. Pinlock ready - came with Pinlock insert. Absolutely brilliant with my glasses. I tried on dozens of helmets for that specific reason, and this was hands down the best for me. Very reasonably priced. I paid £180, but you can pick them up for £150 now.
I bought this for my dad for Christmas last year and he quickly fell in love with it. He used to have a really nice Shoei but he started to hate the helmet after a couple of years because the vents started to fail and so did the visor. So, we got him the K5 and he loves it as much as the Simpson helmet he used to have many, many years ago. So far, the only problem encountered was how the sporty fit of the helmet made it difficult to place a SENA SMH5 intercom's speakers in, which press against his ears for the first mile of riding.
..seriously if you do want it, I've used it maybe 4 times.....not dropped, perfect nick, drop me a mail to themissendenflyer@gmail.com and we can negotiate!
I have had a k5 for around a year. The ventilation is great, but hard to open/close on the move. Visor mechanism is a bit crap. But it looks great, has great field of view and is quite light. I ride a naked and the real benefit for me is the fact it was designed in the wind tunnel. (On private roads!) i get the same neck/wind fatigue at 80mph that I get on other helmets at 70mph. It gives me a consistent 10mph comfort advantage. That also means it's quiet, really quiet. I find I can use Siri at 80 mph no problem. For me it's day long comfort.
I suppose it's all down to personal choice. I love Shoei helmets, excellent build quality & fit like a glove. I've tried a HJC Rapha 2 flip front mid range & took it back after a couple of uses due to it being uncomfortable, pressing on the forehead. There's truth in the saying, you get what you pay for. Cheers Karl 👍
To open the chin ventilation use the lever inside the chin part of the helmet. It also has two more ventilation ports on top, slide them back..? Exhaust in the back...
I’ve had two Agv helmets. A Rossi one in the 1900’s or 2000’s and loved it. Had it that long the foam disintegrated! Now have the K3 sv. Don’t like as much. Thinking of Shoei now. As heard there’re very similar for head shape fits.
you can Open the chin ventilation but the "switch" is on the inside of the helmet. And it is also possible to open 2 ventilations on the top of the helmet but it is rather hard to get them open even without gloves. in fact the ventilation is great but you have to decide before you start your ride whether you want the vents to be open or closed.
watch your videos regularly - find them interesting, so thanks, now to my point - i have a AGV K5 since the summer - the venting under visor at the front can be opened and closed by using a switch which is inside the helmet - reach up through the chin curtain to find it,(tough to do with a glove) there are two more vents at angles just above the visor(they look like eyebrows) they slide back,(revzilla mention these could be difficult with a glove but i have not had any issues) - then you have the vent you pointed out at the top of the head, the extract at the back under the spoiler can be opened and closed.i find the lid very well vented. the helmet i received came with the pinlock - i asked before i purchased if it did and that was the case as it was important to me to have one, as for the padding i find it excellent - i had a shoei quest(excellent lid) which was 5yrs old(padding getting a tad worn) so anything would have been better i suppose, the internal drop down sun shield i find excellent as i dont have a dark visor - its excellent in the winter sun in the morning going to work, and then i come home in the dark so a dark visor is not ideal. - i dont wear glasses - find it perfectly light as you say - and perfect for my commute to work daily - and its quieter than my shoei - so over all i would rate the AGV K5 very highly, regarding you mentioning no venting - as we say in my house RTFM( read the F**King Manual) when i was researching a new lid i had it down to a few....hjc is17, xlite x702gt and the agv k5, the k5 won based on reviews and price...and the fact that i had amazon vouchers and was able to get it with them(LOL) - keep the videos coming
Thanks for all that Hugh, glad you are getting on OK with the K5 - Sadly mine definitely doesn't have the eyebrow vents you mention nor pinlock posts :0( ...but a few people have mentioned that front vent which I have now found. Thanks for watching - all the best - TMF
Perfect timing! I'm off to Motorcycle Live next weekend looking for a more civilised alternative to my AGV Grid - something with a internal sun visor and space to put my Sena speakers without breaking the bank and this WAS on my potential list. Hopefully I'll find a bargain of some sort, great vlog as always. Thanks.
Hi again, I have a K5 and a Shoei, you are right Shoei all they way for fit and comfort, however the K5 does look great, it's is just not an all day helmet so I only use the K5 for a fast short blast. Good review as always.
I was going to get the K5, but my main issue with it was the visor didn't lock down and doesn't have a real good seal with the gasket around the eye port. As far as I know, they now ship with a pinlock clear visor, but the tinted visor come with and without pinlock posts......for some reason. And the offer the SBS was running with a free second visor, that visor wasn't pinlock ready.
I picked up a Bell Star Carbon custom fit about a year ago. The kind where they 3D scan your head. It was about $1100 all in. The fit is amazing, as you'd expect with a custom product. The liner, however, just isn't up to the quality of my previous Arai. It's slightly scratchy where the Arai is nice and velvety smooth. It did come with a few extras that you don't normally get: two shields (one clear, one Transitions), and a nice helmet bag (vs the drawstring pouch my Arai came with). I'm really hoping Arai or Shoei start offering custom fit helmets.
Mine came with a pinloc but when I’m on my zx9r and a bit prone I’m looking directly through the top of it. It’s fine on my sit up style bandit but I thought it was sold more as a race helmet. My Arai gives miles better view up the road.
AGV is a more oval fitting than some, although the K5 I tried felt rounder than the K3. Glasses fit in ok for me as my head is more oval than round. Finding a nicely fitting helmet it trickier though. Have you tried a foggy mask? I have pinlocks in all my helmets and in the winter my glasses steam up without such. The chinbar material seems resistant to velcro adhesive so i had to use a bit of loctite hybrid glue. I usually use double sided mirror fixing tape for this but the chinbar on the agv is very close. The current stock of K5 helmets are pinlock. Looks like you got old stock. The visor is the same as the K3SV (not original K3) so you can change this, however check which part of the visor you look through. With my K3 I find the top of the pinlock gets in my eyeline if i get properly head-down. The chin vents are very effective though. It will be nice around town in the summer. I've just bought an RPHA ST, it's lightyears of development away from the IS16 and FG-15 I had as my fisrts and second helmets. The vents are easy to operate and sturdy. It feels like they tried to make a Shoei GT Air, although the fit is a little better for me. It doesn't feel quiten as plush but it's decently quiet and I like the visor lock, it's much easier than reaching for a tiny lever or switch near the hinge.
Cheers Cavalrymanofchaos - I have tried an anti fogging mask but found I fogged up even more with it! Pinlock is defo the way to go for us glasses wearers...
What did you use and did you have it fitted right? You need a tight seal between your face and the mask and to be able to breathe out the bottom. Not usually compatible with chin curtains. I find the respro ones work best but get gross inside quite fast. Oxford Ghost mask works better in helmets with a lot of room by the chin, or with the fleecy integrated chin curtain removed.
Hi TMF I've had my AGV K5 a year now it did come with a pinlock visor. It also came with different ratchets which enable you to partially open the visor. Agree the drop down sun visor is a pain to operate whilst moving. Not experienced the issue you had with the chin strap, probably different shaped heads. Overall I'm please with it would love an Arai but did not have the budget. The K5 comes out well in the SHARPS test as well. Agree with you 100% about Sportsbike Shop they are ace!
I've not worn my K5 out yet. I passed my CBT in September, and started buying gear shortly after. I'm going to do my Direct Access in the early spring. Then I'll be picking up a Street Triple R. I really enjoy your videos. Keep up the sterling work! Matt
Hey, I know it's already been mentioned here but did you try the chin vent switch on the inside and see if that cured your fogging problem? Also did you try the extra vents on the top (2x trapezoidal ones)? Only reason I ask is I own this kid and haven't had any of the issues you have, although I accept it's helmets and opinions are fairly subjective.
P.s. I really like your vids BTW. Can I request/suggest a new vid...? In the same vein as best 30 bikes etc, most folk only have one bike and noting you have reviewed 100+, what bike, if you could only have one would you buy? Best around, Sunday blaster, occasional tourer, odd pillion carrier and most importantly fun bike...? I'd like to hear your take, I'm sure other would too. All the best and keep it up👍🏼
Another good one other than the gt-air would be the rf1200 it's very quiet no buffeting at speed even when turning your head fits very comfy no pressure points mine came with a pin lock shield and insert and you can get a transitions shield for it I have one and it's really nice no need for multiple shields if your out after dark and the helmet flows a ton of air I paid about $530 for the helmet and $100 for the transition shield not sure what that is in pounds
Agreed on AGV just missing the mark when it comes to the final touches needed to make really 'good' helmets, it is those little things (strap position, materials and venting) that take the extra bit of effort that sadly AGV seem to forget. With the one (yes, tried AGV and swore never to go bad) AX8 EVO i found that the helmet was very noisy as well as the finish being up to par, so noisy that unless wearing good ear plugs then headaches would ensue after any period of wearing...plus the airflow over the peak caused the sort of vibrations normally reserved for party time in the bedroom, not on the head when on the bike. They look good, but sadly just don't quite cut it. Quick ending to say thanks for the videos this (and other years), have an awesome Christmas and looking forward to the New Year content! Ride safe!
Thank you Nigel - glad I'm not alone in being a little disappointed with AGV.....and thank you very much, I'm glad you've enjoyed my efforts. All the best - TMF
I recently replaced my Shoei XR1100 (over $1K with additions) with a cheap $250 (discounted) SV-K3 Guy Martin Britten replica. TBH, comparing a mid-range AGV (k5 or k3) with any Shoei/Arai is a little biased given the massive price differences. I think my internal sunnies distort vision due to cheapness, but considering it's a quarter of the price, I can live with its deficiencies and rather like my K3.
Yes I agree the AGV is in a different league to the Shoei and Arai's of the world (although to be fair my Shoei Qwest wasn't much more expensive than this lid)...thanks for watching and for stopping by - TMF
I had a Shoei Quest for a few years and just replaced it with the AGV K5. Considering this vid is 7 years ago, the AGV has not changed much. Think I still prefer my old Shoei but then maybe need to just get used to the new one. I must have the same size head as you so just wondering what helmets have you gone with and are happy with? Thanks
What Helmet to you wear on the GS? I have an old Arai Tour, but I've recently moved to a Schubert C3 Pro. The jury on the Schubert is still deliberating.
I have the AGV modular and had the same issue with the chin strap when I first got it but I found once it had “broken in” it felt a lot more comfortable, plus the chin strap seemed to fit better, or maybe I just got used to it ??…… great helmets though
Do you know I had no idea they were there! Just spotted that the white "eyebrows" slide up to reveal the vents - good stuff!! Thanks for putting me right....
TheMissendenFlyer should afford you a little more airflow around the bonce! :-) Enjoying the videos, gradually working my way through them and finding them entertaining. Good work.
Hi bob here again liking the reviews however i am understanding that you are of the opinion that the pinlock in the visor will stop your glasses misting up whereas it will only stop the visor misting unless you know something i don't in which case please enlightened me. I'm happy to see that your not afraid to say if something doesn't work, could save someone quite a lot of money.
Check out the HJC R-PHA 11, I'm interested in a sportier second helmet and especially one that ventilates better for summer months and this is top of my list at the moment. Wouldn't normally look at hjc but after seeing the revzilla video I changed my mind.
Ive got the K3 version which comes with pinlock, the vents you mention, 2 sliding vents high on the forehead and the chin vents. The chin vents on mine are closed by a small latch inside the chinguard. Impossible to do with gloves on.
Well Ive not had hands on the K5 but if the sizings are the same as mine along with shape its one of the few helmets that actually fits me properly. The issues you found dont really affect me, The flip down lens catch Im used to now and I wear a balaclava all the time. What I have found is the flip down lens mechanism slackens off after a while and you find the inner visor drops about 5mm so you can see it in your periphery, oh and the pinlock isnt really the best either. I like the look of the K5 though with its spoiler. For me? I like the AGV but its all personal preference.
Great review mate and one that I appreciate. Not only am I after an adventure style bike I'm after a new helmet in the next year too. I have the AGV K4 , and wanted to venture away from AGV but I wasn't sure if that was a good idea or not. I love my ratchet chin strap and the light weight as you say. My downsides are after one or two hours of wearing it I get a stiching imprint on my forehead. Very uncomfortable. Plus the visor comes of at one side if I flip it up to the top. I've had to stop a few times to fix it going through villages. May be I'll try Shoei this time. But I know I'm going to miss my quick ratchet chin strap :( Great review mate, thanks Stu
Nice looking lid but too many downsides there. I've had 2 Arai's, the last being an RX7 Edwards rep but decided to try a different brand for my last purchase (mainly cos I couldn't afford the Arai I wanted) Got the Shark Speed R v2 Carl Fogarty 20th anniversary edition. Came with pinlock, flip down dark visor, slots for glasses and nice plush interior. Was supposedly designed for naked bike but don't find the Arai moves any more than the Shark
Sorry. To say I bought one when I bought a triumph explorer, and am very inpress, it's light and a snug fit XL the flip inner dark screen is handy and the clip on the side is a bit fiddly ,but in Aussie you were light glue,s so it's not too bad ,ventilation was very happy ,and the little flip at the front is handy ,I didn't no about the bottom switch to open the check vent, glad I watch this video ??? And it's yellow colour skim is magic and very eye Catching 👍👍👍🤔 ride safe 🙏🏼🙏🏼 Regards Jack
Thnaks for the feedback Jack - I just haven't got on with this helmet for some reason, glad you have! It does look the business, really wish I found it more comfy. All the best and thanks for watching from the other side of the planet!
I looked into the k5 when buying my last lid earlier this year but couldn't justify or see the benefit over the k3 sv which I bought in the end. which came with pillock insert, has a ratchet strap which I like and looks almost identical to yours. the fit is great and don't get anything digging in my neck. I find I have an agv head anyways. as for sportsbikeshop I have the luxury of them being 5 mins from my house :) and yes they are spot on and couldn't be a bunch of nicer people. new shop is a great place to visit too
have you tried Shark helmets? They are mid priced but packed with features and work well with glasses. I'm a massive fan. Btw keep up the good work. I almost got a crf250l based on your review, but got a great deal on a KTM rc390. have you seen them about ?
Yeah its great for a little engine. Cracked the mirror on the garage door this morning, doh!!!! Seem to have problems getting new glass. Any suggestions? Sharks seem to fit my noggin very well. I think helmet manufactures use different head shapes, that why some seem to work better than others. I've got 3 and they all seem to work really well. Deff cheaper than some brands. Again I have to say I'm really enjoying your vids.
I had a shark speed r carbon that was really great on naked bikes, quiet, light and the visor was really strong. Bit fiddly to open the visor with winter gloves and the lower rear spoiler catches on bulky speedhumped jackets when tucked in a bit. I just returned a Skwal after the visor snapped open on me at high speed. The visors are also prone to breaking at the hinge claw. The same mechanism is on the old S900 and new Spartan. I will not wear a helmet with that visor mechanism ever again.
Hi there! Very thorough review. I'm thinking about buying this helmet. What about noise? I've read it gets loud when riding over 100kph. what's your feedback on that? thanks and happy new year!
...I wouldn't say it was terribly noisy, I think to some degree it depends on the bike you're riding and the windscreen/protection it has - it is comfort on a sports bike that is my main issue with the helmet....
good info.... I use the AGV K4 and love it! Low wind noise even on the naked triple. Tried the K5 when kitting the missus out and found it less comfortable than my K4 and the sun visor on the K5sv seems really close to your face (guessing that is how it works) but made me feel very closed in.... new helmets never feel right until you wear them for a while...... rs matey
TMF. I have the same helmet from sportsbikeshop.com and I too have the same niggles as you although I do think the quality of the lid is very good. The visor doesn't have pinlock because it is the track visor and is marked 'not for road use'. I wonder if you got the free tinted race visor like I did when i bought mine? The clear, pin locked visor that also came with it is still in the wrapper. The drop down sunglasses I have a problem with. While I can operate it fine with gloves on, what I find is when the lid is open, the sunglasses cause a turbulence effect for the air entering the helmet. The air is sucked in under the glasses and is fired directly into your eyes. It makes the sunglasses function useless as the air going into your eyes is very uncomfortable.
Glad it's not just me that found this helmet a little disappointing jmcphee - it does look good though! Great to hear from you again by the way, hope you're well???
I recently brought the guy martin 3some k5 both clear and dark agv visors have the pinlock. Great fit and looks great bit i must say it's a lot noisier than my arai
Thanks for the review. Was looking at purchasing one of those and now it looks like I won't be spending my hard earned spondoolies on that model after all. I do like a helmet to be nice and comfortable. I may stick to Shoei after all. With a legally dark visor of course 🤣
Well it still might be worth trying one on if you can find one at a shop - maybe it's just my head shape.....but try as I might I just can't get on with this helmet...
What a coincidence! I ordered a Schuberth M1 open face helmet from FC Moto,,it arrived and the fit was great, but trouble was the sun visor was so stiff I could not use with gloves ,so sent it back ,but that cost me £53 gulp!!! Anyway I thought I,d checkout Sportsbike shop (the shop itself) to look at there M1 (just in case they are all like that,no they are not)but they are £20 more expensive then Fc moto,,So if you are on a dead cert with no reason to send back go to Fc moto (german) but if its clothes or helmet or boots then you cannot go far wrong with Sportsbike shop,of cause there are other shops, but like you say these guys are so helpful and a pleasure to deal with...nough said......
Yes, I've used them a lot via the web but have never been to the actual shop - is it worth a trip up I wonder??? Thanks for watching and for stopping by - TMF
i have a k3 and i have similar isuues but i also get wind come into my helmet more or less where your ears sit. Its a fine helmet until i go motorway speeds
The clip on my k3 seems to work its way loose on a journey which I can't understand. I tried putting an elasticated skirt on the helmet to stop the wind and noise (and flies) getting in but it sorta compressed the helmet a bit and made it uncomfortable.
Yes I have found the K5 tends to lift a bit at motorway speeds - but having the D Ring fastener means you can secure it on your head pretty tight. Thanks for watching, all the best - TMF
With you on Sportsbike shop good outfit. Rolling with HJC at the moment. Value and good quality. I believe HJC are the only manufacturer with their own wind tunnel. A good American product. Very personal purchase the old lid. Thanks for the vid TMF.
Yes good point re the personal nature of the lid purchase - I must check out HJC, I only hear good things about them and the prices seem pretty keen...glad to hear another vote for Sportsbike Shop, I'm really impressed with their service...cheers for now - TMF
Hi TMF, good and honest review as always. Totally agree about Sportsbikeshop, bought a few things off of them and always had a good service. Regarding the helmet, is this a case of 'you get what you pay for'? I know that's not always right, but I have found that to be the case with helmets. I have the Shoei GT Air and have used it almost every day for 2 1/2 years; it cost me £485 but it is so comfortable and does everything I want it to, including the built in sun visor which personally I like. It is all personal of course, but when it comes to my head, I want the best. Cheers for now and ride safe, Andy. Btw, off to Motorcycle Live on Saturday😃
Yes I think you're probably right, as far as my helmets are concerned the expensive ones are definitely better than the cheap ones....enjoy the NEC, I was there today, good show as ever....
I went to The Sports Bike Shop to try a AGV helmet on. Didn't like it. I fitted where it touched. Not great quality especially next to Aria, Shoei or Schuberth.
Nice video, I was abt to buy it, then I choosed the brand new Shark Spartan carbon, lighter than the K 5 but still with the internal sun visor, comes stock with pin lock and it is perfect with glasses (I wear glasses and I always use them) so if you're going to change the K5 I really suggest you this one. Cheers
It sounded like you bought the K5 without having tried it on elsewhere? I'd never considered that a possibility. Was it the first time you've bought this way? Love the look of the lid btw.
964tractorboy i made the shame choice (prior to watching this) and too found problems appeared when in use. no matter how much time you spend sat with it on it is not the same as being on yer bike. sadly i now have a too large 2017 one that I can't return because the tags are removed
k5 was my first helmet, Id payed 180, and i would consider it a lower priced helmet, but it is excellent. Perfectly comfortable, perfect for a sena 20s, and doesnt look too bad either. Sadly i ordered a medium large, and im a medium. Its now been over a year since i bought it and have gone through a few helmets priced between 200 and 900 pounds. And to this day it is one of the most comfortable helmets ive ever worn (before it broke in and got too large of course). That being said the only other agv i have to compare it to is the pista gp, which is by nature not a very comfortable helmet. Hopefuly ill have a shark vancore soon to put my sena into, as it doesnt fit into the pista all too well :P
I'v spent lots of money on helmets in my time and a simple Carbon open face made by Nitro. ( Carbon Mixtape) perfect for me. while I know its not technically as safe as a full face the visibilty and lightweight make it incredibly easy to live and in my opinion safer. It does not fog up in any weather. Depending on the bike its still ok at motorway speeds too. I find full face lids a bit Claustrophobic too.
Let us know when you're as popular as Royal Jordanian, who swears by Schuberth helmets. I suspect that it will come as news to him that he's an old man/wannabe police officer.
Can't believe you didn't mention the noise! It's absolutely intolerable for me. Even with ear plugs anything above 60mph leaves me with ringing ears. Terrible lid
I don't think I own a helmet where I wouldn't wear earplugs unless I was sticking within the confines of 30 and 40 limits. What lids are you compairing it against?
So basically you never wore the helmet and this video is a lie. It does come with pin lock, you can open and close the chin vent and it has two other vents on top. Hmmm
Well I wore the helmet a few times and didn't get on with it - I still have it, sitting on a shelf virtually unused, complete waste of money as far as I'm concerned!...thanks for watching anyway - all the best - TMF
I completely disagree with this review. I use big glasses and they fit without noticing them. Very fresh inside, no problem with sweating and no problem with the strap in the neck. Probably bad adjustment.
seems so, because I also have a Shoei GT air, and for hot weather I prefer the AGV. I live in Portugal, so you can imagine. We must be lucky when buying these things because only after testing we know if we really like them. Best regards.
I love a good flip front!! Have you seen the new Nolan lid with a HUD? Not sure when it will be available but something along those lines would be brilliant. Here's a vid ruclips.net/video/X3verLIjzmw/видео.html
A great helmet...until you take the liner out of it to fit the speakers for a comms unit. Good luck getting said lining back in again. Looks it was originally fitted by a 5 year old with super glue....very poor workmanship. Come on AGV, surely you can do better than that.
Personally I don't think avg is on the same level as shoei and aria.. shoei and aria are both hand made items and are on top of the helmet game I've personally got an aria vector 2 and a shoei gt air.. both pricey items but coming from bell and avg I'm never going back. Fit and finish is day and night .. should try the shoei gt air mate works great on a naked bike like my triumph street triple.. so stable and quiet up to 200kph then it gets quite windy 😉😅😅😅
Just wanted to point out a couple things:
-My helmet came with a pinlock ready visor (I bought it back in October 2015).
Leon Christiaan that's exactly what I was going to say 😃
Thanks for the clarification guys - I'll have a closer look at my lid (maybe the clear visor did have pinlock just not the tinted one)....
@@TheMissendenFlyer like what leon said and mine came with a pinloc and dark visor. The only problem i have is its not very good on a sport bike for me i find myself looking at/through the top of the pinloc so it distracts me 😮😮😮
Thanks for the clarification on the front ventilation! I was pulling my hair out. And I'm as bald as TMF!
Sorry chap, i am a fan and i like your utube reviews, but you got this one BADLY wrong! A shame as you are usually on the ball!
I have just started biking again and treated my self to a street tripple r. I purchased a shoei neotech imminent tc5. Great colour and great quality
You are a man of good taste clearly!
Sounds like a bargain Ally, I'll check 'em out! Thanks for stopping by - TMF
So far, the only problem encountered was how the sporty fit of the helmet made it difficult to place a SENA SMH5 intercom's speakers in, which press against his ears for the first mile of riding.
...does he want mine? I never use it ;0)
TheMissendenFlyer What size are you in? I'm thinking of one myself!
Large....
TheMissendenFlyer A-ha! Perfect! Just launch it somewhere into Somerset and I'll collect.
..seriously if you do want it, I've used it maybe 4 times.....not dropped, perfect nick, drop me a mail to themissendenflyer@gmail.com and we can negotiate!
+Owen Geddes Nice one Owen, my head must be shaped wrong - the K5 sits looking pretty on the shelf whilst I use any of my other lids :0(
Very informative video as always. As a relatively new rider I appreciate the honest option! Helps when making purchases.
Thanks Sean, glad to be of assistance (this is only my view/opinion though of course!).....cheers - TMF
Yeah I think in general you're right Karl - cheers - TMF
Yes thanks for that - something I've since learned!
watch your videos regularly - find them interesting, so thanks, now to my point - i have a AGV K5 since the summer - the venting under visor at the front can be opened and closed by using a switch which is inside the helmet - reach up through the chin curtain to find it,(tough to do with a glove) there are two more vents at angles just above the visor(they look like eyebrows) they slide back,(revzilla mention these could be difficult with a glove but i have not had any issues) - then you have the vent you pointed out at the top of the head, the extract at the back under the spoiler can be opened and closed.i find the lid very well vented. the helmet i received came with the pinlock - i asked before i purchased if it did and that was the case as it was important to me to have one, as for the padding i find it excellent - i had a shoei quest(excellent lid) which was 5yrs old(padding getting a tad worn) so anything would have been better i suppose, the internal drop down sun shield i find excellent as i dont have a dark visor - its excellent in the winter sun in the morning going to work, and then i come home in the dark so a dark visor is not ideal. - i dont wear glasses - find it perfectly light as you say - and perfect for my commute to work daily - and its quieter than my shoei - so over all i would rate the AGV K5 very highly, regarding you mentioning no venting - as we say in my house RTFM( read the F**King Manual)
when i was researching a new lid i had it down to a few....hjc is17, xlite x702gt and the agv k5, the k5 won based on reviews and price...and the fact that i had amazon vouchers and was able to get it with them(LOL) - keep the videos coming
Thanks for all that Hugh, glad you are getting on OK with the K5 - Sadly mine definitely doesn't have the eyebrow vents you mention nor pinlock posts :0( ...but a few people have mentioned that front vent which I have now found. Thanks for watching - all the best - TMF
TheMissendenFlyer , no bother, the eyebrow vents...I can see them in your video or what looks like them.
For front vent. Button on inside on chin bar 👍
Ordered an AGV AX8 Dual Evo Carbon last week, love it
..I suspect that was a little more expensive than the K5! Glad it's working out for you....cheers - TMF
TheMissendenFlyer Perfect for your GS i'd imagine though - and impossibly light
I wear the Arai Tour X4 on the GS - The best helmet I have ever owned period!
TheMissendenFlyer Looks good, same price as the AGV. Happy Riding!
Thanks.
Cheers Triumphant_Chubby - don't let me put you off, this is only my experience/opinion!
Hi again, I have a K5 and a Shoei, you are right Shoei all they way for fit and comfort, however the K5 does look great, it's is just not an all day helmet so I only use the K5 for a fast short blast. Good review as always.
Thanks Jason, and completely agree, I think the K5 will have to be for when I'm in pose mode.....
to close the front vent there is a switch inside. also the eye brows are vents.
Oh yes so there is!! Thanks for that....no eyebrow vents on mine though (at least not with the tinted visor)...cheers - TMF
Thanks for the info, just to give you the latest, have now done about 300 miles, 200 to go before 1st service.
Fingers crossed for better weather!
Yeah I think I've fallen foul of that, the tinted visor not having the pinlock inserts - a pain as a glasses wearer....
Wow, that sounds like the way to go - I didn't realise custom fit were that "reasonable" in price. Cheers - TMF
Maybe I got old stock or something!
K5s has got brow vents, this is older model k5
Mine came with pinlock however i agree with the glasses had to get new contacts to be able to ride properly
Cheers Albert, all the best - TMF
I've got a K5, The switch for the chin vents are inside the helmet behind the vents.
Found it! Thanks for that Matt - do you have the same issue with the chin strap being set too far back??
I've not worn my K5 out yet. I passed my CBT in September, and started buying gear shortly after. I'm going to do my Direct Access in the early spring. Then I'll be picking up a Street Triple R. I really enjoy your videos. Keep up the sterling work! Matt
You are a man of good taste sir! Good luck with the test(s) - they don't make it easy these days do they!
All the best and keep it up👍🏼
Thanks Jonathan - I will bear that idea in mind, I am thinking along similar lines - stay tuned!
I purchased a RPHA 11...A cracking helmet all round!!
Yes a few people have mentioned how good these are - I will have to check one out....cheers - TMF
Have always been a fan of Double D arrangements! 👍😊 Got a Shoei GT-Air. Does all of the things you mention well so might be worth a try.
Fnar fnar - like it, well spotted ;0)
Another good one other than the gt-air would be the rf1200 it's very quiet no buffeting at speed even when turning your head fits very comfy no pressure points mine came with a pin lock shield and insert and you can get a transitions shield for it I have one and it's really nice no need for multiple shields if your out after dark and the helmet flows a ton of air I paid about $530 for the helmet and $100 for the transition shield not sure what that is in pounds
Thanks Zachary....
All the best - TMF
you're spot on about the agv I had one for about 2 months hated the fit ,had to sell it on in the end
How did you manage that? Didn't think there was a market for 2nd hand lids???
TheMissendenFlyer on ebay had to recoup some money to purchase another 1 , learnt my lesson try before you buy
Might look into that - surprised people by 2nd hand helmets!
Nice review thanks . Helmet does look good but comfort is most important.
The front air holes can be closed with a switch in the front of the chin guard
Thanks for that - I should have mentioned...
Thanks
HJC RPHA11 is superb as is Arai Tour X4 or my current fave Schuberth C5.
Thanks for the reply 👍
What Helmet to you wear on the GS? I have an old Arai Tour, but I've recently moved to a Schubert C3 Pro. The jury on the Schubert is still deliberating.
I wear an Arai Tour X4 - by far the best helmet I've ever used....
I have the AGV modular and had the same issue with the chin strap when I first got it but I found once it had “broken in” it felt a lot more comfortable, plus the chin strap seemed to fit better, or maybe I just got used to it ??…… great helmets though
The two vents on the forehead are quite effective, they're a carry-over from the K3-SV... looks like you missed that they exist? :-)
Do you know I had no idea they were there! Just spotted that the white "eyebrows" slide up to reveal the vents - good stuff!! Thanks for putting me right....
TheMissendenFlyer should afford you a little more airflow around the bonce! :-)
Enjoying the videos, gradually working my way through them and finding them entertaining. Good work.
Thank you Ian - and thanks for the heads up on the vents :0) ...now can you sort out the comfort??
Hi bob here again liking the reviews however i am understanding that you are of the opinion that the pinlock in the visor will stop your glasses misting up whereas it will only stop the visor misting unless you know something i don't in which case please enlightened me. I'm happy to see that your not afraid to say if something doesn't work, could save someone quite a lot of money.
If that's what I said then it was a slip of the tongue! The pinlock just "double glazes" your visor and hence stops that misting up....
Thanks mate nice and straight forward. Very good review.
Gelreat stuff as ever sir !
Looking forward to the Christmas special ... gifts for him :)
Anth
Mmm Christmas special, now there's an idea.....
Check out the HJC R-PHA 11, I'm interested in a sportier second helmet and especially one that ventilates better for summer months and this is top of my list at the moment. Wouldn't normally look at hjc but after seeing the revzilla video I changed my mind.
Yes - the HJC offerings appear to be popular! I'll check 'em out - cheers - TMF
Without me looking back on your videos what do you use to spray on your street triple in the winter
Ive got the K3 version which comes with pinlock, the vents you mention, 2 sliding vents high on the forehead and the chin vents. The chin vents on mine are closed by a small latch inside the chinguard. Impossible to do with gloves on.
SO what do you make of the K5? A good helmet??
Well Ive not had hands on the K5 but if the sizings are the same as mine along with shape its one of the few helmets that actually fits me properly. The issues you found dont really affect me, The flip down lens catch Im used to now and I wear a balaclava all the time. What I have found is the flip down lens mechanism slackens off after a while and you find the inner visor drops about 5mm so you can see it in your periphery, oh and the pinlock isnt really the best either. I like the look of the K5 though with its spoiler. For me? I like the AGV but its all personal preference.
Yes very much so is choice of lid....
But I know I'm going to miss my quick ratchet chin strap :(
Great review mate, thanks
Stu
Cheers Stu!
Yes I've always liked the look of Shark lids - will check them out.....thanks for watching - TMF
And it's yellow colour skim is magic and very eye Catching 👍👍👍🤔 ride safe 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Regards Jack
Thnaks for the feedback Jack - I just haven't got on with this helmet for some reason, glad you have! It does look the business, really wish I found it more comfy. All the best and thanks for watching from the other side of the planet!
I looked into the k5 when buying my last lid earlier this year but couldn't justify or see the benefit over the k3 sv which I bought in the end. which came with pillock insert, has a ratchet strap which I like and looks almost identical to yours. the fit is great and don't get anything digging in my neck. I find I have an agv head anyways. as for sportsbikeshop I have the luxury of them being 5 mins from my house :) and yes they are spot on and couldn't be a bunch of nicer people. new shop is a great place to visit too
Did you have to pay extra to have the pillock inserted? ;0) ....remind me where SportsBike shop are located? As you say, great great outfit....
TheMissendenFlyer no it came included with the k3 sv. it's in Boston Lincolnshire buddy.
have you tried Shark helmets? They are mid priced but packed with features and work well with glasses. I'm a massive fan. Btw keep up the good work. I almost got a crf250l based on your review, but got a great deal on a KTM rc390. have you seen them about ?
Nope I've not had a Shark helmet, I do like the look of them though, maybe next time! Well done on the KTM - are you pleased with it?
Yeah its great for a little engine. Cracked the mirror on the garage door this morning, doh!!!! Seem to have problems getting new glass. Any suggestions? Sharks seem to fit my noggin very well. I think helmet manufactures use different head shapes, that why some seem to work better than others. I've got 3 and they all seem to work really well. Deff cheaper than some brands. Again I have to say I'm really enjoying your vids.
Thank you sir - bummer re the mirror, I know how you feel!! ...and no suggestions bar call a dealer I'm afraid.,..
Tried the K5 when kitting the missus out and found it less comfortable than my K4 and the sun visor on the K5sv seems really close to your face (guessing that is how it works) but made me feel very closed in.... new helmets never feel right until you wear them for a while...... rs matey
Cheers RB75...thanks for watching and for stopping by - TMF
TheMissendenFlyer I'm great thanks. Still good content in these horrid weather conditions. Keep it up
Cheers - and yes rol on Summer, I've not been on the bike for a couple of days, getting withdrawal symptoms!
the ventilation for the chin is on the inside of the helmet at the chin
Thanks Jeffrey....
I recently brought the guy martin 3some k5 both clear and dark agv visors have the pinlock. Great fit and looks great bit i must say it's a lot noisier than my arai
Love the K5-S, each to their own eh?
thanks for the heads up mate great stuff. stop me from buying it.
I have a Shoei shaped head, nothing else works for me. My Qwest and Raid models are superb with my specs.
Yes my Shoei Qwest is my goto helmet if I'm not on the BMW.....
good quick review, thanks
Thanks for the review. Was looking at purchasing one of those and now it looks like I won't be spending my hard earned spondoolies on that model after all. I do like a helmet to be nice and comfortable. I may stick to Shoei after all. With a legally dark visor of course 🤣
Well it still might be worth trying one on if you can find one at a shop - maybe it's just my head shape.....but try as I might I just can't get on with this helmet...
they certainly do, I think I lost about £20 altogether which is neither here or there really, give it a try
Yes, sounds like a plan!
Great review, very informative, thanks!
You're welcome :0)
i have a k3 and i have similar isuues but i also get wind come into my helmet more or less where your ears sit.
Pretty sure HJC are a Korean brand, not American.
Simon Borg yeah I think you're right man. My error.
..easy mistake, Korea/America...similar... ;0)
TheMissendenFlyer There's only a few miles in it. You're just being pedantic now!
Agreed - I didn't realise Sports Bike Shop was a "real" shop I must admit (thought it was only on-line)....
Hey TMF, any idea where I can get spare parts for the K5? I need the internal visor mounting clip thingy.... Can't fine it anywhere..... Cheers
Cheers
Hmmm, worth a look me thinks....cheers - TMF
TheMissendenFlyer 👍
tried the new hjc rpha11, really snug fit, and light
I only hear good things about the HJC lids....
TheMissendenFlyer I've got the hjc in question. Awesome helmet...try it out!
It sounded like you bought the K5 without having tried it on elsewhere? I'd never considered that a possibility. Was it the first time you've bought this way? Love the look of the lid btw.
I had tried one on before for size, it was only when actually having used the thing these issues became apparent....
964tractorboy i made the shame choice (prior to watching this) and too found problems appeared when in use. no matter how much time you spend sat with it on it is not the same as being on yer bike. sadly i now have a too large 2017 one that I can't return because the tags are removed
Great review as usual, and nice shirt! 😉
k5 was my first helmet, Id payed 180, and i would consider it a lower priced helmet, but it is excellent.
Interesting - it just shows that works for some doesn't work for others! Thanks for watching and for stopping by - TMF
Great review,
Thank you Jack....good to hear from you again...
I think I'll stick to me Shoei Neotec
Good plan!
I agree all all points. Mine sits on the top of my wardrobe collecting dust 😩
Phew - glad it's not just me then :0)
I'v spent lots of money on helmets in my time and a simple Carbon open face made by Nitro.
TMF, Have you ever tried the Schuberth helmets?
No I haven't, didn't really want to perpetuate the old man/wannabe police officer image but I'm probably missing out!!
TheMissendenFlyer Didn't know what was the image they projected.
Yep 'fraid so (at least in my mind!!) :0)
TheMissendenFlyer At least try them at the local motorcycle shop.
Let us know when you're as popular as Royal Jordanian, who swears by Schuberth helmets. I suspect that it will come as news to him that he's an old man/wannabe police officer.
Sir which mid price helmet you recommend in a case of wearing eyeglasses?
Well I like the Shoei Qwest but obvs I've not tried them all!
TheMissendenFlyer answer appreciated thx mate
Do you spray in on your wheels ( not tyres)
Yep....use a rag to apply rather than spray as you don't want it near your brakes either....
Mid price? Good price? it’s a 700$ Helmet ied say it’s more on the expensive side my dude
looks a bit like a Hockey Mask, I like it.
good info
Cheers
Sean he got this sooooo wrong, that is a great helmet
Who’s Sean?
Yup sorry been a little busy at work and trying to ride before it gets to cold out
Can't believe you didn't mention the noise! It's absolutely intolerable for me. Even with ear plugs anything above 60mph leaves me with ringing ears. Terrible lid
Well I agree with your summary! I have to say though I haven't found it that noisy, but then on my Ducati everything sounds noisy!!
+rui costa Blimey its like we have different helmets - my K5 sits firmly on the shelf!
seems so, because I also have a Shoei GT air, and for hot weather I prefer the AGV.
I do love a bit of technology....cheers for that..
TheMissendenFlyer BMW were advertising a similar thing months ago but no mention of when it was going in to production.
Yes agreed on that! Thanks for watching and for stopping by - TMF
i have a gt air and im sad to say they are crap on a sports bike as the f,o,v is not good in the head down shame as i love the helmet
You should consider trying on a Schuberth helmet. They're very good aswell.
I just got the GT Air and the large hurts my skull, I love the helmet tho. Might have to return it. :(
SHOEI NXR for me from SBS
You can't go wrong with a Shoei can you....cheers Richard, good to hear from you again - TMF
Bad. I beleived you.
Not sure I follow Petre, are you saying I said something that isn't correct? Don't forget this is only my opinion!
Very petty
Thank you
