- On November 9th, many East German citizens gathered in front of their televisions as the Central Committee of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) held a press conference. An unexpected statement by government representative Günter Schabowski would go down in history as the most consequential mistake in the history of East Germany, paving the way for the fall of the Berlin Wall.
The primary purpose of the press conference was to curb mass emigration and protests by East German citizens through new laws. A new travel regulation was mentioned almost incidentally. "Private travel abroad can be applied for without prerequisites [...] Approvals will be granted on short notice. [...] Permanent emigration can take place through all border crossings from East Germany to West Germany [...]"
The journalists perked up and started asking questions. They wanted to know when the new law would take effect. After a brief back and forth, Günter Schabowski replied:
"As far as I know, it takes effect… immediately, without delay."
He had been handed a note to read from just moments before. His blunder would become the most momentous error in the history of East Germany. The borders at the Berlin Wall opened for the first time at Bornholmer Straße. After 28 years of division, West and East Berliners could reunite. Thousands of East German citizens rushed to the border crossings.

Einfach gemacht
KEIN Versehen :-) Er war ein schlechter Schauspieler. In diesem Moment bestätigte sich meine Vermutung der Inszenierung. Revolutionen sind meist inszeniert. z.B. auch in RO.

Ein Versprecher soll den Mauerfall ausgelöst haben 😂… einen größeren Schwachsinn habe ich schon lange nicht mehr gehört 🎉😂😂 … das war Monate wenn nicht Jahre schon geplant… in der DDR wurde alles und jeder überwacht und kontrolliert und ein Schabowski verquatscht sich auf offener Bühne 😂😂😂😅
