Personally I always find statistics hard to understand the first 1,2,3 times I read through them! Especially when it is something new to me. I find I often like to read 2-3 different sources describing the same sort of analysis before it "clicks" and i feel I understand it well. If you were struggling with the code portion, i have tried to explain the code in my open book in similar language as I use in my videos: noah-schroeder.github.io/reviewbook/ I have not tried tackling explaining the statistics part yet to the same depth as Harrer et al.'s book goes into.
