- This is a 2-fer!
My cousin, Kathy, sent me one of the old recipe books from the Ebenezer Reformed Church, Oregon, IL, to peruse while recouping from the dog 'incident'
BTW, I am aware the bottom of the soup can said expire 2021. It didn't
HAMBURGER POTATO CASSEROLE
350 degrees and a larger casserole which I sprayed with Pam
1 pound of hamburger
1 small onion diced
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon paprika
5 medium potatoes sliced
1 can cream of mushroom soup
Milk
Brown the meat, salt and pepper and small diced onion
Add to this soup and paprika and stir well
Put meat mixture in bottom of casserole (although I layered mine)
Top with potato slices.
Now add enough milk so you can see it. Mine looked a bit too much but it wasn't.
Bake 350 degrees for 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Mine was done in 1 1/2 hours.
APPLE RINGS
This can be done in the oven or a dehydrator
Peel, core and slice apples
Make cinnamon sugar by combining sugar with cinnamon. This is where you can adjust the amount of cinnamon you would like.
Dredge slices through this mixture.
Dry one of two ways
1. Put racks on cookie sheets and put slices on them. Do not overlap slices.
Bake in oven 2-3 hours at 200 degrees turning about half way through
2. Put on dehydrator trays and dehydrate turning about half way through. Mine took 5 hours and were pliable
Nothing better than church cookbooks and recognizing old friends and family. Another gem l love is our volunteer fire company cookbook. These recipes are like hugs!
Indeed, and I love when they are filthy with food stain!!!
Vonnie, so much fun going down memory lane! I love simple recipes. Thanks!💕
And simple is so versatile. You can change the basic however you like
BTW, while the apple crisps were delicious, they left a mess in my dehydrator! The bottom was a mess of apple juice and cinnamon sugar. Next time I will do them with a rack on a cookie sheet in the oven at 200 degrees!
I love the old recipes, delicious reminders of past times. Thank you for sharing.
Sounds a great casserole and an economic dish to make. ❤️👍
If you're on a budget, it could easily be expanded for more folks! And it heated up nicely.
Church cookbooks are the BEST!!!! The recipes in it are tried and true by many family members. I did not know what I was going to make for supper, so I am going to try this tonight. 😋😋😋 Yum! Vonnie, so glad you are recuperating. 😊😊😊😊
Me too, Renae!
✌
That cream of mushroom is so versatle, and that looks yummy!!😉😜👍 thanks for sharing Vonnie
And remember you can make your own with a white sauce and diced mushrooms in a pinch!
Dang it vonnie! Now I’m starving like a hostage! LOL! Reminds me of my mom’s shepards pie ! I really miss her! Thank you for sharing!
This would make a great base for a shepards pie!
Vonnie, fall and winter are coming and I just saw on you tube that some of the states in the U.S/ are preparing for covid again..... UFF DAH! A big SHOUT OUT to you and Martin for the GREATEST videos. You two are the best!! I live in the city and have a stressful job and the thing that always helps me decompress is watching yours and Martins videos. They bring all of us back to a more wonderful, simpler time when people enjoyed life and the kitchen was one of the main gathering places in the house (besides the bathroom being it was the only one in the house. LOL). You two are a BLESSING!😇😇 🌻🌻
Wow Renae! The only thing I took from Thoreau was 'simplify, simplify' and of course from the Lord be content with what you have. We aim to serve and I'm so glad we help you decompress. As I have said before, I wish I could have y'all over for a big pot luck! Pot luck because I would want to try what everyone else makes!
It's great seeing you back in action.
And it is good to be back in action
That’s your book to keep cause it has the recipe of your Mom’s in it too. Thanks, our Moms were great in the kitchen. Great to see you back doing a great job ❤ 😊yum
thanks kathy, so much. started doing some rehab and OUCH still may need a surgery to stabilize the knuckle and take care of the pain if therapy doesn't do the trick
I remember my mom had a couple of church cookbooks when growing up and you are so right about them being like a friend and family reunion. Lots of good food in them too. Simple recipes with limited ingredients that taste good are right up my alley. Hope you will share more of these recipes with us. This one I will make with some veggies added to make it a complete meal like you suggested. Loving your and Martin's channels. Take care.
I agree, next time I'm going to liven mine up a bit. And it reheats well
Rosanna suggested adding cheese. Sounds like a winner
Fantastic!
Many thanks!
I make something very similar, and call it "Hamburger Stew". Slice up a few carrots, a few chunks of turnip, peas or yellow beans. Bake it in the oven and enjoy with a slice of homemade bread!
Yum oh, Bushmoose. Now your cookin'
The mushroom soup makes such a nice tasty gravy@@vonnieskitchenmartinsshack5544
Vonnie, quintessential meat and potato recipe!! Looks so tasty; thanks for sharing!
Think I might experiment next time with some additions!
Good to see you back making videos. Your dish looks so good. Meat and potatoes are always good no matter how you cook them. Down south it has always been enjoyed. God bless you and Martin. From deep southeast Mississippi ❤
Thanks, Nona!
I'm making your casserole recipe now. It smells so good, I can't wait to devour it!
Vonnie, you're using the fry pan my mom used when I was growing up. Now I definitely have to make this recipe, especially since I just harvested potatoes from my garden . :)
Well that is a Revere Ware pan which I love. At a local online auction site I just bought a big box with lots of Revere Ware pans. It is going to my great niece who is getting married in October. She will use it and the next generations can use it. So durable.
I'll try that one soon.
Vonnie, both of those recipes look so delicious! Thank you for sharing!😊
You are welcome, Lisa!
Oh man ! That sounds so yummy to me! and i love it towmatowie too😜👍and the pepperz thankyou Vonnie
😋😋👌
I agree 100% on adding cheese! How is your thumb mending?
It seems groovy. I just sliced some peaches to dehydrate and it is hurting now. But I see the surgeon next week and she'll give the low down. She had said it would take a year to heal. Thanks for asking!
@vonnieskitchenmartinsshack5544 You are both family to me, so gotta know how you're doin!
And I'd love to have y'all over for a pot luck supper. Pot luck so I could try others cooking!@@mrdfoutz
Looks so good. I like hamburger casserole but we would add cheese to ours.
OOOO that sounds good. I'm going to add to my comments. Thanks Rosanna
@@vonnieskitchenmartinsshack5544 Thank you Vonnie ,you are welcome
Vonnie I am soo pleased to have you and the Channel and the family recipes to share with us... but the viewers up north want to know if we will see recipes from the cabin. Would be great content for you and Martins channel teaming up.????
Wayne, Mart does show cooking at the cabin. Maybe try that
This looks so good going to try this how are you feeling
Tammy, I realized the other day I had worked all day and didn't have to sit and rest! Baby steps!
