@@BirdWatchTV Yeah but almost my entire area is just trees. I have no place to put it on except a tree. I can't mount it on the side of my house either
@@scarletlikesbirds I see there’s a pole mount for the Netvue, I’d just buy one from a hardware store and stick it in the middle of your yard and grease the pole.
Greasing the pole does work. My parents had squirrels that were so persistent that they wore off the Vaseline. My dad built a squirrel proof feeder, and that stopped the issue. You can also use hot pepper seed and suet. We had a squirrel that would reach under our eve to reach our suet feeder. I put hot pepper suet in the feeder, and the squirrel came back once. After eating, it dropped the suet and dove into the gutter for a drink. We haven't had a squirrel since. Birds have poor taste buds, and the spicyness doesn't affect them. The birds actually love it. In peak times, we go through 2 suet cakes every 2 weeks.

People enjoy watching nature and find it relaxing and entertaining. I have a cat who enjoys watching them as well, so that’s the main reason. People in Hong Kong don’t feed birds?
I used to not mind as much, but they started to take over and the birds were afraid. Plus I was goin through a 25 pound bag of seed every four days! Not cheap lol. Every now and then we throw them a variety of tree nuts or if they’re looking a little skinny we’ll put peanut butter on bread for them!
@@BirdWatchTV I used to go through 80 lbs of birdseed a month( without squirrels), but I moved and I go through 40 lbs of birdseed and a bag of freeze dried meal worms a month. I put out feed for the hummingbirds also. I don't have as many birds here and only 2 squirrels. I've been here almost 2 years. Most of my birds here are house wrens, titmouse and two woodpeckers that feed daily... It seems the squirrels eat on a different time frame than my birds.
We used to as well until we saw them ruin it for all the birds, pee on the birdfeeder (a flat one for doves), and never get full until all sunflower seeds are over. They're disturbing and destructive.
Great question! If the rain is heavy and goes on for a while it will wash it away. I find after heavy showers I’ll have to re apply the Vaseline. But sometimes I don’t, a good indicator of when you’ll have to add more Vaseline would be if you start seeing the squirrels climbing back up the poles. That’s what I tend to do here, just wait until the squirrels start climbing again then out comes the Vaseline lol. If you don’t feel like reapplying all the time you could try buying a baffle for your feeder. Those help keep the squirrels away too. Just gotta make sure you install it correctly. Hope that helps!
I don’t see why not! As long as they’re vinyl. If you have brick or wood siding you may have to move it higher up on the window, or move it to a second floor window if you have one!
Those sure sound like some determined squirrels! I’m in the middle of making a video on how to make a squirrel proof feeder post. Should be up by next week, stay tuned!

This year we're trying a fence out around our garden to keep them from getting at our corn. Hope & pray 🙏 it works
Dilemma: I want to buy a ground bird feeder because I want to attract crows to my yard, and according to my research they prefer ground feeders. Anyone have any ideas about how to stop rodents and other small animals from stealing the food in it?

Didn’t work for me! I used a whole jar! They still get up there. I still haven’t seen them climb but they’re hanging all over the bird feeder even with it on the feeder also! 🤦🏻♀️
I ask because if they’re not high enough off the ground or if there’s anything the squirrels can climb near the feeders they’re most likely jumping up or over straight onto the feeders and not climbing up the greased poles. Keep in mind they can jump at least 4 feet vertically and 6 feet horizontally. Hope this helps you out!
The feeder is probably three or four feet off the ground, but there is a pallet upright in the ground from the previous owners that is a foot and a half away. I’ve seen them climb that. I want that pallet gone!
Yea I was surprised when you said the Vaseline didn’t work. I knew it must be something else. Once you get rid of the pallet and maybe raise the feeders another foot off the ground that should do the trick. Best of luck!
