Freddy Gruber. The guy who is cited by great drummers YET…..not one recording or video of him drumming anywhere. Only thing I’ve found was him playing ice cream scoops on counter. A mysterious guy.
@@drummeralbertrivera9577 Yes I have many times. There are zero clips of Freddy playing an actual kit where it’s….” Ok Neil, give me the sticks and let me get behind that kit so I can show you what I mean.” . Closest I’ve ever seen him play was sitting behind a kit holding the sticks. It is crazy. Try as hard as you can to find a clip of Freddy playing drums. I have had no luck. I have had people tell me “ Video was not popular when Freddy was up and coming.” Buddy Rich was 10 years older and there are lots of videos of Buddy going back decades. It is just baffling. I can’t even find a record that has Freddy listed on credits as the drummer.
Really excellent tutorial. These kids think it's just a push poll role but it really wasn't I don't even think these kids think about it they just want to go around the drums as quick as they can hold in the sticks wrong and have no clue as to what is solo is! It's very sad! Some of them are extremely talented uncover songs, but when it comes to a solo they just don't understand it. Buddy Rich one of a kind I actually did that one handed roll differently but I don't know if anyone else can really do it as well! He was so versatile he could probably do it five different ways! RIP
There’s some truth in it. I like Peart and Smith a lot more before they changed their technique approach. Their drumming lost a bit of a primal force which made them so great in the beginning…
@@thomasnussbaum4711 yes, albeit great players always. I also dislike the way Neil set his kit up after Gruber, loving his “ All the worlds a stage” setup best. I want drums that go thump, not ding. I own DW drums, but ho to great lengths to dampen thst ringing pitch crap.
Dave's teaching is gold on drums.
Great sounding drum pad
original Real Feel pad by HQ Percussion!
One of the only “sought after “ pieces of drum gear I actually own. Haha@@jhan_drums
Saw him at the Florida Drum Expo in the mid nineties. Quite awesome.
Wow. Something difficult made simpler by a true master.
Thanks Dave. I have a new challenge to rise to.
0:13 yes, really shit. You're right, Dave!! 🤣
Thanks for sharing!
Happy Drumming!!!
0:57 hell yeah!
Hahaha
hahahahha
😊😊😊😊😊good drum teacher
Super sick vid.
Excellent teaching Dave!
Gracias maestro !!
I’m a 38 year old dude who’s starting on drums; complete amateur. Very eager to learn from Dave.
He is doing open/close knows as push pull. Its an upper-intermediate technique which can be advanced at certain tempos and smoothness.
Does Dave have any mullet video lessons? He’s an icon in that field.

Look up some videos of him with Neil Peart.

@@FraaaaaankRizzo I found this video of a lesson he was giving. Maybe this should work? ruclips.net/user/shortsWAGsHiyldBQ?si=F5KQeQ9VWcmC468N

WOW! Fantastic. Love the reference to Buddy Rich -- the all time king of the kit (albeit one of the all-time real world jerks).
Many talented creators are not great people. Buddy's by no means an exception.
Weckle is the goat.
Same as a certain Mr Baker
Goat!
Великий!
:)...Dave looks so young...the 90's?
Yes, he was no longer rocking his 80's mullet

Weckl's entire playing is based on double-stroke rolls. Someone like Billy uses mostly single-stroke rolls.
No it’s not
Only play on a drum. Kent Vogel A.S.C.A.P WBD
Should be labeled for advanced drummers only!
At least it's refreshing that players of this level still work on their double strokes.
why?
😂😂😂
Gruber ruined Peart and many others. Listen to Temples of Sirux live before Gruber, then after!!!!

Yeah, for me it will always be the Tama and Ludwig kits. Hated his DW setup and sound…and I think I‘m the only fan who couldn’t stand the hat! 😂
