Mama Phan’s Easy Steamed Rice Dumplings with Shrimp | Bánh Bèo recipe

    BÁnh BÉO RECIPE
    Bánh bèo Batter:
    * 1 package of “Bột Bánh Bèo” pyramide or any brand
    * 5 cups warm water
    * I tbsp oil
    Shrimp Topping:
    * 1 lb shrimp (peeled and deveined)
    * 1 drop of red, 1 drop of yellow food seasoning for color (optional)
    Fish Sauce:
    * 3 tbsp fish sauce
    * 4.5 tbsp sugar
    * 13.5 tbsp water
    * Lime (to taste)
    * Thai chili peppers (optional)
    Bánh bèo batter:
    1. In a big bowl, combine bánh bèo flour mixture, warm water and oil. Mix well and set aside in fridge.
    2. fill steamer with water and turn stove to medium high. Add banh beo bowls to the steamer and close.
    3. Once water comes to a boil and bowls are hot, stir and scoop batter into bowls. Make sure to stir the batter frequently. Repeat until you’ve used all the batter.
    Shrimp topping:
    1. Add oil to a pan, on medium high, add oil to a pan and thoroughly cook shrimp.
    2. Add shrimp to food processor and finely chop
    3. Add back to pan, on low, cook until shrimp is dried out and add in food coloring if desired.
    Fish sauce
    1. In a bowl, combine fish sauce, sugar, water and lime (to taste) and mix until sugar is fully dissolved.
    2. Add Thai chili peppers, if desired.
    Serving:
    1. You can put the bowls onto a serving platter or carefully remove and layer onto a plate.
    2. Add all desired toppings
    3. Spoon fish sauce onto the bánh bèo and enjoy!

    My mom is Vietnamese and she would make these occasionally but only put green onion and whole tiny dried shrimp. I love the soft silky texture and the way the sauce tastes together. I like the idea of adding toppings. Ty for reminding me of this authentic dish. ❤

      😂😂 they’re optional!!!! All the toppings can be bought at any store really. The base of this meal is easy peasy!
