@@oglschmitt ya man when they came out they were one of the loudest bands. I think they played at a local festival and they blew the crowd away! They apparently blew zeppelin off the stage which is saying a lot because usually it was the other way around. That’s a good one to look into because I can’t exactly remember the story off hand but I remember that Peter grant was pissed and did not want to go on after them. Something to that effect anyways. Ya they are a great band. Among many others but a cool story with this band. I love the closer to home album and E pluribus funk and the phoenix album when they added an organ player to the band. !!!
@@BlackWaterCanyon hey this is Danny I'm Greg's partner and I'm introduced him to Grand Funk Railroad and sometimes I sit in with him but we try not to influence each other on the songs we have heard with the other one has it if that makes sense? I seen Grand Funk and Concord North Carolina 2 years ago of course I mean I think there's only the drummer is only one left maybe the bassist. So it was more of a Nostalgia Factor. Yeah I love the older stuff I really really like the song I Can Feel him in the morning, so here's my question was that Mark Farner days or was that after the survival album?
@@BlackWaterCanyon I looked up the second thing cuz I'm a big fan of them too and yes very very interesting rabbit hole. So I found the podcast that Mark done I think a year or two ago. And he tells that story I had seen bits and pieces of that but I had never seen the whole thing so thank you for taking me down that rabbit hole. I screen recorded that so I'm going to do a little a little video on it when I got out to people I think it should be documented. And I'm not trying to trash Led Zeppelin but that was a trashy move. Reminds me of when Hank Jr tried to tell Charlie Daniels Band to let him close cuz it wasn't going to be horse them going on after him. And this was after a while when he could kind of see he was coming into his own so he did it nicely they refused he blew the roof of the house off and then Charlie Daniels Band refused to take the stage. Now I seen them with Marshall Tucker Band and 38 Special so they have buried the hatchet obviously seen them in Raleigh and late 90s. But yeah anyway that was a terrible move. I like the fact that they ran half of the crowd off when they keep me off stage so they just sit down center of the road in the middle of the auditorium and watch the Zeppelin play which Mark was not very impressed
We've done Zeppelin before, but we've been wanting to bring bands like The Who and Jethro Tull to the channel. Your suggestion is the best reason yet! Thanks for everything @edgearusa
A great song recorded in 69, Grand Funk Railroad was a top arena draw in late 69 through 72, then the break up of Terry Knight producer and the band, due to the legal fight, Terry kept the Railroad and Mark, Don, Mel then added Craig Frost(keyboard) went on as Grand Funk until 76. So basically there was two band sounds a power trio on Grand Funk, On Time, Closer To Home, Live, Survival, E Pluribus Funk and Mark, Don & Mel, then as a four man group they released Flight of the Phoenix, We're An American Band, Shining On, All The Girls In The World Beware, Grand Funk Live, Born To Die, Good Singing, Good Playing. The first 7 releases by the band is what made them famous and known as a power trio, Sin's A Good Man's Brother, was the best song released and the words still ring true today. Sin's A Good Man's Brother, Nothing is the Same and Aimless Lady all from the Closer to Home album should be listened to.
Wow thank you yeah I know about Mark Farner and I actually seen Grand Funk Railroad not too long ago or the older version of them now see you in about 3 years ago. What I did not know was that those songs were recorded separately like an American band and some kind of wonderful I'm assuming too was without mark? So I'm guessing the survival album was the last one with Mark? I absolutely love the song I Can Feel him in the morning and inside looking out. And yeah I know they sold out Shea Stadium which was basically the only other bigger concert in that area was Skynyrd in 77 Oakland colosseum Maybe. So I'm putting down the three songs you suggested I've never heard either one of those just for contacts all of those are with Mark Farner right?
@@DannyLeeOGT No Mark was there on all the albums but the sound changed when the producer Terry Knight was fired 1972, it was like 3 months till the end of the contract so he gave the band grieve and took the Railroad part of the name, Mark was kicked out much later on the second reunion in 1998.

Thank you for this information. 🤝 I honestly did not realize GFR had this many albums. Which one would you say is their best?

lets not forget that GFR broke the beatles attendance record at Shae stadium!
