- We guarantee you would never volunteer for this special military assignment, but Witold Pilecki was not like any soldier. In today's insane video we're talking about the crazy brave soldier who volunteered to go undercover inside the Auschwitz concentration camp. Germany was a very dangerous place during World War 2, and the concentration camps were the worst place to be in the entire world. Pilecki did his best to boost prisoner morale during one of the worst times in history and was eventually honored with the highest medal Poland has to offer.

Pilecki is now hailed as a national hero in Poland. The guy did awesome under the circumstances. He definitely deserves to be in every history textbooks.
The shot in the head he received on May 25 was a coup de grace after all the torture he had to endure

Well,he was later killed by the soviets after being tortured (cutting of fingernails) and during the trail he hid his hands in order to calm his wife,what a chad.

The training I can't help you with, the info, as far as we know it is like any other work camp. That is what they most likely would have know at the time before him, "Arbeit Macht Frei" (Work Makes You Free) that is what was on the gate leading into the camp, it was a work camp as far as anyone knew, until they realise they were exterminating the Jews.

No Polish person I've asked about him knows his name, which breaks my heart. The Communist regime succeeded in blotting out the memory of him and it needed a Swedish metal group to let it resurface.
@@strangelic4234 The Soviets accused him of working with the Nazis, he was known as a traitor for 40 years until they found proof in the 90s that he was indeed a hero.
Witold Pilecki is one of the most famous war heroes among Polish nationalists. I should know, I was one of them. I wish he was more famous in Poland. I don't think I've ever heard about a more courageous man than him.

I have been admiring him since I turned 20, which my parents don't approve of. Inmate 4859 later met the man whose name he was using and the real Serafiński harboured him. Another known Auschwitz inmate, the late Władysław Bartoszewski (Lord rest his soul) used to say: "It's worth to be decent in indecent times" and Pilecki proved it

0:21 made me think of that “haunted” house in America, where thousands of people die. If you somehow get through the 8 hour tour (where actual torture devices are implemented and you may have to shave your head bald and get bitten by deadly snakes) then you get $20,000, but the longest time someone has ever survived is only 6 hours.

It's for the all the people that think that soviets were "cool" guys- No, they weren't, even after war they killed many Polish (and many other countries) commanders, generals, teachers and so on. Soviets were literally murdurers, and it's a fact.
