I feel like joji writes ballads giving the feeling he's talking about some person he was in love with. BUT i think he uses these lyrics to convey feelings about more than just a person, like his career, past experiences, something abstract or inanimate that was a part of his life basically. Idk of thats true but thats the vibe i get
Amazing. You're one of the rare reactors who bring something to the table. You actually take time to analyse what you see and hear and then give your 2 cents. Respect.
This is my favorite reaction just because we both have that same knowledge, we both used to watch franku so we both get that happy nostalgic feeling like watching our child grow up, and we are both obsessed with the lore in his music videos and the storyline he is creating.
Sorry to comment so late. But, I think this track gives the key to understanding the whole album. I think there are three levels of meaning happening at the same time. But there are two levels represented by the first half and second half of the track. First, you have the hustle that you go through try and make a relationship work when it isn’t. But then, you have the desperation of shooting for the sun at the moment of decision to force it to work no matter the cost. Second, you have the hustle you have to do to make it work in the industry and eventually you have to leave everything behind to go out on your own. Third, and related to both, you have the hustle and struggle that happens to make any dream be realized, then you set out to make it actually happen and then you are faced with the impossible choice to eject or go to the endgame in the face of possible catastrophe and you don’t know what’s going to happen but your all in and so you have to ride the risk into the sun and you might get burned up like Icarus. In the first instance you have something very personal that we all experience in relationships. In the second you have the personal story of the artist. In the third you have the universal application to life for all of us. Each of his tracks on this album seem to follow this same threefold meaning. That’s my take.
That effect you described towards the end is called the Vertigo effect. It was first used by Alfred Hitchcock in his movie Vertigo, hence the name. Basically you dolly in or out of a shot and zoom with the lens in the opposite direction (dolly in, you zoom out and vice versa) and thats what gives it that look. Just flexin on ya with my mediocre filmschool knowledge ;)
The story as far as i know, is in gimme love, Joji is a technician/ astronaut working on the ship we see in sanctuary. He launches on his own. In Run, Joji dreams of an endless limousine, representing his depression and turmoil of the whole situation. At the end of run, he breaks the glass, signaling that he has woken up. In the next shot, we see him waking up on the ship, and going into the kitchen, which is where Sanctuary starts. I sanctuary, Joji has found himself with a team, but still longs for the connections he made before gimme love.
bruh at the end of the Run music video you can see a framed picture of him and the Sanctuary crew hung up on the wall so I’m thinking Run is after he loses everything once again and falls into a state of depression and loneliness because it seems that when he wakes up from the dream in the limousine he’s all alone on the spaceship.
PS: I feel like 88rising is a domination station w beats and I’d be hype to hear how you feel about Rich Brain’s new song Bali & yellow off his last album.
Yassss!!!! Was waiting for this and thought I’d be waiting longer! I knowwwww it’s not bc of me personally harassing you to do it, but I’m gonna pretend & I thank you regardless!
Andrew Donoho directed this music video. He’s also directed several twenty one pilots videos including Heathens, The Trench Trilogy (Jumpsuit/Levitats/NATN) and The Hype.
The argument is whether sanctuary or run happens next. I personally think run happens as a dream during or sometime around the events of or after sanctuary
Great reaction, I think that juxtaposition you mentioned early on, 3:38 - 3:52 , I think signal the uneasy or anxious nature of his need for love/'love'... also that essential question later, when I am far too gone can you love me? (7:28) .. I got to ask, and hope you keep up with me, cause I can't let you go. Fits into the story for sure 😭❤️
I think maybe the lyrics being more hurt than the beat implies is like him masking the stress and depression, and the slower instrumental part is him finally cracking and revealing it fully. Links up to the music video where he cracks and steals the rocket
I think that he is in charge of the project but things don't go the way he planned them to be resulting in people getting hurt by radiation or something including his girlfriend and he is tired of people getting hurt because of him so he decided to go by himself because he knew that there was going to be something wrong with the space ship.
Probably the same who are sad enough to threaten to unsubscribe because Ernest didn’t like ‘dear rappers’ I like Tom MacDonald but I’m not yet tragic enough to unsub over that 🤦🏻♀️ and even as a Tom fan I didn’t think that song was up there with his other work 🤷🏻♀️
Ik this was a long time ago but the video im pretty sure is him going from nobody into schooling then presenting something and getting accepted then he is approached by the military to work on something for a virus and its killing people and he goes on the rocket alone because he can't save them and doesn't want them with him so he leaves
I know it's a very Bowie cliche to say, but... This looks like an overdose allegory... Like he lost everything and he's retreating into a fantasy world, maybe slipping into a coma, which is what the ending of Run seems to allude to.
woahhh if you think that Run is his best song, please listen to songs like test track, will he, demons, and slow dancing in the dark if you havent already, you'll really think otherwise
I know you probably wont listen to it cause alot of people dont care about 2018 russ. But if u could listen to russ parkstone drive and voicemail for me, that would be nice
APOCOLYP_3 3 I love that song! Especially when I’m hating myself, it’s good to know I’m not the only one, I wish NF didn’t feel like that though I wouldn’t wish that feeling on anyone, that’s always a 50/50 split for me between loving the music and being really sad the artist has felt the way they did to make the music
This channel gives us so much more than a strictly lyrical breakdown. Never imagined i would learn so much from a "reactor".
haha man that means a lot to me becuase I try to give as much as I can!
@@TheThirdErnest Please react to pink guy raps bro...I think people deserve a good laugh

him saying goodbye to filthy frank and his past fanbase
Amazing. You're one of the rare reactors who bring something to the table. You actually take time to analyse what you see and hear and then give your 2 cents. Respect.
Appreciate that! I try to be the reason people watch!
Nice review! FYI this was directed by Andrew Donoho, who also directed Heathens, Heavy Dirty Soul, Jumpsuit, Levitate, Nico and the Niners for TØP.
I can totally see his vibe in the video lol
Yoga Frog niiiiiice, I didn’t know that and it makes so much sense
TheThirdErnest that music videos are awesome, you should react to that Trench trilogy soon 👀
Yoga Frog oh dang
joji himself directed and edited the first part
This is my favorite reaction just because we both have that same knowledge, we both used to watch franku so we both get that happy nostalgic feeling like watching our child grow up, and we are both obsessed with the lore in his music videos and the storyline he is creating.
By far my favorite reactor or he actually knows what he's talking about and has good taste in music keep up the good work

You’re the only RUclipsr who breaks down the lyrics. I appreciate that.
The outro sent me to heaven
shit was so peaceful especially right off that hectic beginning

Ernest: there's a lot here.
Joji: I'm chaos and sadness.
Everyone: This slaps.

Awesome breakdown! With other reactions you don't get this kind of insight, you just earned yourself a subscriber.
Thanks Ernest. Fire video as always

time for me to completely mix it up and listen to The Last Song by All-American Rejects,
I get mad anxiety hearing this song haha
Especially when the beat begins to switch
Ernest quick question how’s the fade still intact? Also love the consistency in the uploading 🧡
I WAS ASKING MYSELF THAT SAME QUESTION LMAO
that outro was dreamy af
Nice, here before 100 views!
You ever considered doing Token's freestyle at Sway in the Morning 2019?
he must check it out. And more of his songs as well.
Dude this music makes me wanna fly everytime I close my damn eyes
I feel like this song might be a metaphor representing his life as filthy frank then breaking free and transitioning to joji
I thought the day would never come
I think maybe the lyrics being more hurt than the beat implies is like him masking the stress and depression, and the slower instrumental part is him finally cracking and revealing it fully. Links up to the music video where he cracks and steals the rocket

Presequel too sanctuary pretty boy doesn’t exist in the universe I think joji returns to earth for slow dancing
I just wanna know who the hell gave this video a dislike??
PIV. A tom Macdonald fan
