I forgot to take a deposit for this cake & customer never picked up 🤷🏻♀️

- I thinkMany people aren’t understanding what happened. I said I can’t finish it for Monday because I come back on Monday so she could I pick it up on Wednesday. So I messaged on Tuesday asking if she still like to pick up the cake and I got no answer all day. So I decided to just do it a different way and sell it regardless. I don’t understand how people are putting the blame on me, I literally went out of my way to try and help her. I felt bad that she had an hour and a half drive so I told her I’ll wait for the days that you’re local. I didn’t forget her order, I just forgot it in the freezer but I took it out and was able to finish it So that she can pick it up Wednesday.

I would definitely drive an hour to get one of your cakes it’s their loss
I wouldn’t but she should have just been upfront about it
You’re so sweet
especially for this one, it's so cute
@@BakeMyDayMimo I would too!!! I love your vids
ONLY an hour? Miss girl didn't really want the cake that badly I guess 🤷♀️
You'd be surprised just how often people will order food and just straight up not even show up to get it
We wait till 30 min after close if the order was placed at least a half hour before close, and then pre-paid food is that left is given to the closing employees.
Not just food. I work retail- specifically a store catered to children's clothes- we get pick up orders all the time and there are so many people who never come to pick up their orders it's ridiculous.
some people even paid full price and still forget to pick up their food
Wow! If I paid for it I am coming for it.
My husband delivers and he’ll get to someone’s house and they will have left and so he’ll call them and they’re like oh crap can u wait there for me!! Like sure let me just leave all the other customers waiting!!
There is something about ur voice & the way u talk......so motherly, homely etc etc
I keep coming back for more...
Edit: i have triggered alot of inferiority complex in my comment section. 💅😈

i agree, it’s so comforting
@@xolio1993 no you're just being weird.
If I was ordering a cake and they said pick up Wednesday then I'd just pick it up on the day. I wouldn't call or message on Monday or Tuesday or anything like that. I'd assume it's all going to plan and turn up Wednesday expecting my cake. That seems normal to me.
Ya I don't get how this was the customers fault.
Yeah, she is the one who forgot, not the customer
Yeah but the issue is the lady never showed up
@@livvyyyyyyyyyyy She never said the other lady didn't show up. She said she didn't return her calls on the Tuesday (day before pickup) so she resold the cake on Wednesday. Even if the lady did come on Wednesday her cake was sold to someone else.
@@joanna0988 well obviously the lady didn’t come as it was sold to someone else.
Everyone seems to be missing the part where the customer never responded about picking up the cake, nor did she show up for it. 🤔
Her loss is someone else's gain Mimo love 💜
People are sometimes so inconsiderate and rude. Beautiful cake! Glad you were able to sell it!
That cake is sooooo pretty
I need to visit Michigan so I can get one of these lovely cakes from this lovely lady

I'm not quite sure why so many cake designers on here don't wear gloves. I just...that's literally all I can ever focus on. 🤢
So neither party brings up a pickup date and time during the booking process?
🤣🤣 precisely
At least you hadn’t styled it prior and it was a simple cake to be able to make beautiful !
It's hard if you are busy mom and going through things especially being a Healthcare employee. I have ptsd, anxiety, and depression. I try really hard but it's really hard you and sometimes just remember right before. I would have been devastated to not get the cake because I forgot to check my messages two days prior.
yeah but ur not the mom who forgot her cake. dont assume everyone has similar problems to u. some people straight up just dont take their cakes.
@@sqwauky She didn't forget the cake, she just didn't answer the day before.
So you agreed on Wednesday, then forgot about the cake and because the customer didn't answer you on Tuesday, it's somehow their fault? They might've been there on Wednesday, you know, *as you agreed*. Sounds like you're covering your ass for forgetting to defrost the cake.🤷🏼♀️
That's what it is but she's blaming the customer for not responding. I know some people that don't regularly check their messages.
Right! If I agreed to pick up a cake Wed. then got a message from the baker that she forgot to defrost my cake, I wouldn’t respond either; my business obviously isn’t important to her. I’d be questioning whether it would ever be ready at that point, and also thinking about how stale it would taste. Um no thanks!
She excuses her mess up, by messaging the customer on Wednesday, saying she's NOT defrosted the cake but she can still pick it up, and then decides that the customer is in the wrong for not responding? I imagine the customer probably saw it and said, oh shit, now I gotta find a cake last minute
Can we please talk about how gorgeous those nails are!?
Mmmm your cakes always look amazing 🤩
Glad everything worked out for you!!
I mean you did say Wednesday
This cake is so pretty!!
how crappy that people order and don't pay. your cake is pretty, adorable, and yummy looking.

Glad someone ended up buying your beautiful cake ❤️💛🧡
Omg this cake looks so good
Damn. Every single time I watch your videos, I get hungrier than a hippo. I haven’t had cake in a while and now I really want some
Your so nice for trying to not have gas wasted and I’m a big fan 💗💗💗💗💗
It’s not if she really wanted it she would’ve messaged you.. she probably didn’t want to feel like she’s begging you to remember her…it was you who forgot not her.
She said she messaged her on Wednesday, and did not hear back from her all day.
@@jadeabrahams8168 if she messaged the customer "iv forgotten about your cake do you still want it today?" then i don't blame the customer for not replying. She was probably busy trying to get another cake! This woman has a habit of telling stories where she fkd up but making out it's the customer's fault.
No way 😂 If you payed for the cake you can bother as much as you want, no way you don't answer during the day and I would think you were very interested in still having the cake, specially when there is a deposit. You all people really 😂 I would have donde the same
@@SKB2643 The costumer should still reply. They were both unprofessional about this
@@SKB2643 I didn't know you knew her personally, went thru her phone, or seen that she was lying. it's first come, first serve. she can't wait on the customer to finally answer 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
I used to work at a local Bakery and some customers would get so mad that we HAD to receive a deposit before their order was submitted to the manager/cake decorators, I mean otherwise your order slip would just remain at a register or get thrown away after no call back or follow up. Especially with very expensive, intricate, and time consuming cakes, or even if it’s just a simple cake. Timing and schedules are very important to the manager and cake decorators, especially if there are already way too many orders for a single day, so that’s why we can’t just whip something up for you out of the blue with no compromise. That’s why there are ready to sell cakes available as well 🤠.
I can't believe how rude people are about ordering and not picking it up.
Huh? Why’s the cake lady acting like she didnt fuck up even a little bit? 😂😂
Lol then sold an old frozen cake 😂 gross
@@lavenderoh I’m glad to see some of us aren’t delusional. 🤣
@@msknich0le very few of us remain but we must stay strong! 💚
@@lavenderoh an old frozen cake? How old do you think it was?
have y'all never frozen a cake before? literally nothing happens with the taste or the looks, i highly recommend doing this if you ever have too much cake and don't want to throw it away. we even learn this when we train for our jobs as bakers and confectioners.
Love your stories too, along with your cakes
I would drive to Australia for one of your cakes !
(I'm from the opposite side of the world)
I only wish you’d wear gloves instead of placing things with bare hands (only when touching the cake).
Probably it's because I live in a huge city, but it always baffles me when people talk about one hour driving like it's a long way to go... That's kinda average for me. I often do longer trips on the regular to same day visit friends or family.
Same in the city I grew up in, just a few miles takes 30 minutes minimum. Going across town at rush hour can take 2-3 hours. And that's not even a huge city, just 1.5mil in the metro area. I live in the suburbs now, about 20 miles from city center, but it takes literally 25 mins to get there because it's all highway. When I lived in the city but 6 miles from city center, it took 20-35 minutes to get there. Now out here my apartment is 2x the size and there's no traffic unless I choose to participate. 😂 I am happy to drive at my own leisure.
Same. It often takes an hour to drive 30 miles in my metro city.
It’s a beautiful cake!!!
Tbh, she did message you, days before and you guys made a plan you’d defrost it and she’d pick it up.
You forgetting to defrost it doesn’t mean it’s her fault for not messaging you again to what, check if you defrosted it?
It’s for sure your fault.
THANK YOU! surprised not more people pointed this out. after listening to this dumb story im like wait, the deposit has nothing to do with this, you said it would be ready weds and you effed up.
@@carriec5376 They probably didn't specify the payment plan and how that worked in to this whole thing. My guess is the payment plan that's set up at order is that you have to make sure to pay the deposit to confirm your order
Yes, but a bit harshly said don't you think. Only a cake.
Well ... she didn't message all day after being informed of the mishap. If you really cared you'd at least answer to get the deposit back or say no it's fine if it's not perfectly defrosted or just any reaction.
... she replied after multiple attempts to contact her on the day of her original delivery. She then said she could have it done the new date, being the Wednesday, which she absent-mindedly forgot about and the customer didn't bother to contact her as well. Bad for business all around. This video clearly explains where she needs to implement better business practices in regards to her consistency and bookkeeping
Why would she call again if you both agreed on Wednesday?
To confirm again, that's what normal humans do. You don't just bump into someone's house just because you had called on Wednesday
@@Habibtay but she was at work on wednesday? what if she doesn't have time to call. That is why she set up the pickup in advance.
She messaged her and she didn’t respond so that means she didn’t want it

That looks awesome! Customers like that must be so confusing and frustrating 😂 I know some days weren't available for her and you but she must've not wanted it. She still should've told you she didn't want it 🤨
It wasn't the customer who forget to deefrost the cake. 🧐
This is why I think other businesses should require deposits as well, like hair stylists for example. I’ve seen many times where a client is scheduled for hair color and will either cancel 15 minutes before or will just ignore their messages and never show up (and will message you later that night expecting to be able to reschedule).
So what happens is that they now have a long period of time during their workday without any appointments and therefore they aren’t making money or tips. This sucks because a hair stylist has to allot 2-3 hours of time with most hair color appointments to be able to complete it before their next appointment. Sometimes they will have one client for the entire day and work on their hair for SEVERAL hours. In those cases I definitely think that a deposit should be required.
It’s just so rude when people flake like that.
People can be so inconsiderate.
But live and learn my darling.
Demand deposit from EVERYONE.
Maybe she had a reason she couldn’t like never seeing this person face to face. I have a feeling there’s even more to the story that what we are hearing.
She fucked up, not the customers fault
Deposit doesn't guarantee that someone is coming. It's just to secure an appointment, doesn't mean the person will attend!!
@@gentleauroraasmr8562 yes, but at the very least the deposit covers some of the cost. And people are more likely to show if they have put down a deposit.
@@persephoneszeliga
The baker covered the cost by reselling it, which seems to always be an option for her. All is well.

The cake 🎂 🥮 looks absolutely delicious 😋
It sounds like you were both on the wrong page an mutually inconsiderate!!!🤷🏾♂️
Sounds like you fell through the cracks, sis.
This cake looks amazing! At first I thought this was like a Reese's pieces cake, and I'm a little sad it's not, but I'm a sucker for a good citrus cake, too. (Lemon is one of my faves) 😍
Good for you, this is a business not a charity. . You made a great turnaround, I applaud you.
I'm conflicted on creators and business owners that make content like this. On one hand, the stories fill the space or time on the video, but on the other hand they make people sound snarky, petty and unprofessional. Seems you started this one by "forgetting" and I guess thats the extent of the accountability with that you're willing to take. Lol You do this often. Complaim and tell stories that are trashing people. These types of stories when running a business just seem like stories to be told in private. I got my hair done once by a stylist that used the whole appointment trashing other clients. I never went back. This is an outlet you use to sell your cakes, yet when things don't go as planned you make a video and talk bad about the experience and the people. Either you're really full of yourself and don't truly value your clientele or you're just rude and mindless. Either way, not a respectable way to ask for business, run a business or handle issues. Just my perspective.
I totally agree with you and especially in this case, because the client shouldn't need to message her for her to remember that she had to make the cake, it's like you had to message a hairdresser to remember that they have to cut your hair, and especially when she is posting the story and acting like it's the costumers fault when she was the one who forgot to make the cake, if I was that client I would never order from her again.
I once drove from Cincinnati to Dayton (50 miles) to pick up a particular detail for a birthday party. No deposit needed...the store has many I'm stock... however if a deposit was required I still would have had to drive 50 miles. When folks want something...they want something. This one failed to pay a deposit and this is what happened. Get a deposit every time from now on...before you even start to bake it. Otherwise you might have gotten stuck for the time, the ingredients, the service and all that. Fortunately...it did sell...but what if it didn't... then you are stuck. Get that deposit every time. People are quick to answer their phone when they have money on hold.
The deposit didn't matter because the baker forgot to defrost the cake on time and then blamed the customer for not responding the day before.
@@joanna0988 she didn't blame the customer...the customer failed to contact her in a timely manner. It's not like those are stock cakes...these are custom made...and communication is key.
@@peepla7 They arranged for a Wednesday pickup, the baker forgot to defrost the cake and contacted the customer the day before. The customer didn't respond (maybe she doesn't check her IG messages that often) so the next day she sold her cake to someone else. Maybe the customer is now left without a cake for her event.
@@joanna0988 no they didn't *arrange* a pick up...she messaged and the customer didn't respond...and she could have drove on over if it was that important. But hey your opinion is gonna be different from mine. Personally...I have no problem frosting a cake while it is frozen...then I'd let the customer defrost it ... But that's just me.
Always demand deposit on your cakes, also the smaller ones. Beautiful cake 🎂🤩❤️
You had me at hello loves
It’s your fault you made a plan with her to defrost and she would pick up you didn’t.
It is also the lady’s fault. The baker forgot to defrost it, and the lady didn’t pick up the cake. Both are at fault.
@@znsnhshs6227 she didn't pick up the cake because it wasn't ready. And apparently resold before she got off work to answer.
I'm a professional chef, and anytime I do any private catering (doesn't matter how big or how small it is) I make sure I get a deposit, at least half of the final bill. Glad you were able to sell the cake, I know how much time and effort goes in to making these creations.
I AM SO SORRY THIS HAPPENED TO YOU! HARD WORK SHOULD NOT BE REPAID IN THIS WAY! GLAD IT TURNED OUT FOR THE BEST FOR YOU & A LUCKY INSTAGRAMMER WHO WAS ABLE TO PURCHASE ONE OF YOUR BEAUTIES!!!💕🙏✝️🕊
As a baker, a helpful thing to do for you is to learn as you grow is to learn how to make a cake straight. In this one you're heavy on the top, make it even and use a ruler as a guide or a frosting scraper.
She needs to stop trashing people in her videos and maybe by humbling herself and stop being so petty, she might notice her work isn't straight. That's where she can start of you ask me.
Idk what it is about your voice but it’s comforting. Coincidentally you show up when I’m upset so maybe that’s why?

Irritating that ppl can’t check basic things (distance) before making an order. Glad you were able to still sell the cake.
But the cake lady said she forgot to defrost it on time ? So didn't she screw the customer over?
@@joanna0988 Bruh. The whole reason she even had to freeze the cake was because the customer didn’t know she was over an hour away! That happens to handcraft designers. These customers can't pay for it. I would also have a letter of agreement for the customer to sign, even if digitally. My husband was a CPA and he had every customer sign it. So, if they fell thru with payment, they can be taken to court. It's such a shame.

Ayayaya Mimo you really need to start having your customers pay their invoice in full in order to book. I do this for all of my invoices regardless of the price, and I promise you it makes all the difference. I also make all of my orders dalivery (and currently charge $2 per mile), but do give them the option to pick-up from me at no charge. This causes so much less stress for you and at the end of the day if your "clients" don't pick up their cake, or want to pay for their order to be delivered, then that's on them. Also, I'm not sure what you charge for your cakes, but if you haven't raised your prices in more than a year that has to change. You have a lot of talent and should be increasing your prices to reflect your talent and new skills you learn and practice with each new cake you create, cost of products & ingredients, cost of utilities, and cost of labor (living wage for where you live). I follow a creative business coach here on youtube and he once said "if you are always busy with orders that means you are not charging enough and need to increase your prices. The goal is not to be the cheapest, but you will have a difficult time getting clients who take your quality of work seriously enough to pay what you need to charge to be profitable unless your pricing accurately reflects how seriously you take your a skill and worth. You will undoubtedly lost the clients who only went to you for your cheap prices, but when your business becomes self-sufficient that won't matter". And it's true.
Thank you love. You’re so right. I am always booked and I don’t think it’s because I’m that good, I truly do think it’s because I’m cheap 😂🙈
@@BakeMyDayMimo aww never sell yourself short Mimo! You are very talented and your prices should reflect that. It was a game changer for me when I increased mine.
