You got the Kanye lyrics wrong. It's scoopy-didd-whoop, not scoop-diddy-whoop. Who has ever heard of a scoop-diddy? That just doesn't make any sense. Everyone knows it's scoopy-didd. Poseur.

As Maynard confirmed in one of his interviews, the song eulogy is about "tendencies" and as I delved into it, more specifically, I found it to be about "ego death", the loud voice within you that feels like it has a lot to say, as in, you have so much to prove to people and getting you own "self" recognized and credited for it, and feel a sense of superiority over others on a subconscious level, and the last line of the song provides the resolution to it, as in, how it is so much important for us to recognize and crucify that dormant ego within us in order to dedicate ourselves purely for the service of mankind excluding the selfish motives. And as I proceeded to look at the entire song through this lens, entire lyrics started making sense.

46 and 2 gets into some odd territory. It's supposed to be about humanities next stage of evolutionz which is the 46 and 2 chromosomes. We have 44 and 2 now. It also talks about our shadow, which is a Jungian concept. Our shadow is the part of ourselves that we don't like and we don't want to face, but in order to evolve, to reach the 46 and 2, you have to turn, face your shadow and engage with it. Hence the "I've been wallowing in my own chaotic, insecure delusions, I want to feel the change consume me, feel the outside turning" and "step into my shadow, coming out the other side, step into my shadow, 46 and 2 just ahead of me."
There's some seriously wild ideas on this album, double so because back before everyone had the Internet ideas like the above are difficult to be exposed to, unlike now where you can run across any information at any time. Plus religion was still pretty entrenched back then so those new age type concepts were seen as dangerous. I learned about the whole third eye thing back in 98 because of what else, the song Third Eye. I hate it when people say "this is art" but everything about this record is art.

Loved NZ. Loved the Beer.Loved the People. 46&2 is partly Jung, partly others, partly ours.....that was it. Not signed off by any name but I was very pleased to get this email.

I think the track Intermission has much more meaning when taken in the context of the following track. It represents the playfulness that came with Maynards childhood to me. The very abrupt change from the whimsical organ to the heavier guitar riff makes me think of a sudden, dark change in Maynard’s life

This was a very important album to me before I got into Nine Inch Nails, and friends… but, I don’t dwell on past phases too much. But Stinkfist, the lyrics hit me specifically as an adult. The constant search for emotional validation, nothing ever feeling good anymore, being further and further away from feeling entirely. It really makes me feel like, really represented. Especially as someone who’s really emotionally cold and distant.
To me, it really reflects on my borderline personality disorder. And the depersonalization I feel

18:00 Further to your point, Aenima's lyrics are a direct reference to the Bill Hicks standup segment 'Arizona Bay' during which he talks about his personal hatred of Los Angeles and the people that live there.
Arizona Bay is the theoretical name for the body of water that would be created when the 'big one' Earthquake destroys the City of Los Angeles and sends it beneath the Pacific Ocean, destroying the City and killing everyone in it in the process.
Maynard shared Hicks' hatred of Los Angeles and the people that lived there, only choosing to live there because he had to due to the music industry. He has since moved to Arizona.

Your videos on these albums are always a treat, It's great to know that people still love and think about music like this. Since moving to a new campus so many people here just dont seem to care much about this stuff, and even if they do, it feels so hard to just break that invisible barrier and connect in meaningful ways. I think the themes of this album are more relevant than ever and it sucks that people have failed to learn these lessons over and over again. Such an important album.
Aside from that, I am happy you're getting more funding for these, would also love to see you explore stuff from bands like Karnivool, APC, or even SOAD. But I dont know all your tastes and would prefer to see stuff that you personally enjoy anyway. Hope all is well!

I always saw stinkfist as a dual meaning with each one relying on one another to say what it means. One being more obvious about being fisted as you say to go deeper within you to feel it more like you used to to get better sexual stimulation as you need this stimuli to breath, feel, and know you’re alive. The other being less about sex of course but about how everyone keeps chasing more and more feeling and experience but you obviously never get to any sort of satisfaction because it’s all already gone, you’ve taken it all as you’re shoulder deep and that’s as far as you’ll get in it. And now, forever bent apart you can never return to a love. And what I mean by “you” is humans as a whole species. We always chase and go faster and faster till the terrane around us is blurred. We’ll never enjoy a scenery again. As of Ænima I feel similar. I basically see it as a hate letter to humans and an ask to Mother Nature to perform an enema on herself to flush all the dirty shit away (humans). Also what is the animation the starts in the beginning of the video. I really recognize it and I think I saw it years ago when I was a kid but I had no idea what it was then.

A work of art and a truly amazing sounding record. I always felt like Eulogy was also meant for a "persona" that a person creates for themselves. People listen, absorb, and even become that persona which is not really who you are. That persona is what people want to be or feel they should portray to the outside world.
When the time comes, when you grow as a person, you start to kill that persona, that shell, that cacoon. This song is also an eulogy for that person. Part of your ego, a liar that won't die for you. A persona that stands above the ground and you are so eager to identify with someone above the ground. We also personify the religious figures and all that. I think this song has a parallel to the masks people put on themselves.

The whole "Considerately killing me" thing doesn't lend itself to parenthood, or new life, or a relationship with his new child in my analysis of the lyrics.
The snake has always been a representation of heroin addiction e.g. a syringe likened to fangs. When you gear lyrics about the snake biting, it's about heroin. Thought you knew that.
An alternative view would entail an addict confronting his addiction and alluding to his past experiences and feelings as liabilities-nobody knows how low you will go until you are strung out, dope sick and the crawlies threatening eruption any time.
That us what he is trying to address, distancing himself from dope but its pull is very strong even from a distance; in his mind it's right next door.
In the end he realizes the need for the taste will always be there. It's time for him to make a decision ...
Edit- one is loath to assign meanings that would be abrasive to common mankind as well as possibly fostering the belief that one's weltanschauung leans misanthropic.
I merely presented a perspective that has a bounty of evidence to back it up and provenance in literature and in visual media.

Eulogy is literally about Maynards friend Bill Hicks. Theres even the little painting of Hicks in the album art. Another dead hero. The title track contains the lyric " see you down in Arizona Bay", a reference to a music/ comedy album Hicks was writing when he died of Pancreatic Cancer in 1994, which was later released in 1997. And the obvious samples of Hicks at the beginning of Third Eye. The idea for the song Aenima came from Hicks bit about California breaking off and sinking into the Pacific due to a massive quake.

I mean if martyrs die for the sake of or in defence of their faith, wouldnt you agree that ego would need to be absent. And in Jesus case their was truly no ego because he died for the sins of others he didnt commit in order to give them a chance at eternal life with the father in heaven. 1) the book "The World's Sixteen Crucified Saviors" discusses the overarching point of the cross in the song.
      2) A case could be made that every loud and assured person post (or pre?)-Jesus, unable to look within before pointing outward, was attempting to recreate the recipe Jesus established, attempting to make their loud, boastful words into a way to absolve the sins of mankind, without an awareness that nobody really cared about their sacrifice, and that sacrifice would be forgotten.
I think both perspectives apply equally, as Maynard likes to have more than 4 or 5 simultaneous meanings to his songs.

Taking psychedelics is ripping open your 3rd eye. Cheating in a way to experience the creators realm. Some attain it safely through Christ, others create a void that can be filled by any Jin or spirit that isn't necessarily benevolent or has your best interest.

Interesting video that the algorithm just shuffled to me...! Die Eier. It is pronounced "dee I err". Cheers from Germany! I saw Tool live once in Berlin early 2000s, but didnt like it much, probably due to the sound. And my ignorance. It is by far my most loved band now for years.
