After seeing this video for the first time, I purchased a ww1 gurkha kukri from Thekhukurihouse. It was great, and I still have it, it has survived EVERY test so far and it is better than any hatchet I've used. I just recently placed another order on a Kukri, so now I will wait.
I had a Khukhri commissioned for me a few years back. It took a year to arrive. It is one of the largest in the world. Proud to say that I own it as it was born in Nepal. I knew the Ghurka squad at Sandhurst. I salute them and they salute me. I've never done much heroics in my life. But they are true heroes!
I watched a video on them being made and I tell you it's awesome just watching them make a complete Kukri from the leaf spring to the sheath. Your knife is a beauty. Thanks for sharing.
That's The Beast and it chopped the two by four pretty darn easy, the more you use it the easier it will get. Bob you got one darn good camping chopper.
The two little tools are actually a small knife and a sharpener. The sharpener was never the way I would sharpen as it takes an extremely long time due to being metal against metal as opposed to ceramic, stone or diamond. So I am not missing anything there. And as for the small knife, I carry a SAK Craftsman which can do 10X what that little knife could. While they add to the authenticity, they really are just collectibles and nothing to miss. Go for the 3 Chirra.
people all of you guys are annoying, let the man chop in whatever attire he wants. People, you guys need to stop to make negative on everything. good video by the awesome kukri. thanks
I bought the Khukuri Cowboy from Khukuri House, it is big and heavy but if I ever needed to hit some one, they would stay hit. It is well made and only cost me 65 dollars, and they had them in stock. Just looked over at Tora Blades, way over priced and every thing was on pre-order. So there you go. If you want a traditional Khukuri, for a price you can afford, Khukuri House has them, even military ones. Good video by the way.
I love this video!!! I bought a Mini Jungle and a Service No. 1 (Sarkhari Khukuri) from the Khukuri House and i am buying one for my dad since he is not believing my discription of how fanatastic these "Knifes" are. I trail ride on my Yamaha Super Tenere (adventure bike) through forests down in Florida and this is a great multi-tool for everything from clearing out routes, trees, bush, and good defense against boars if i cant get to my sidearm in time. I want a 3 chirra now
mate how sharp was that khukri out of the box? i was told by the Australian stockist for the khukri house told me "the beast" is his favourite due to the sharpness and its ability to hold an edge. did you try shaving your arm with it, before you hacked through that lumber? Nice review by the way.
im glad you got a traditional one from Nepal not one of the modern cheap stamped one......well done for keeping an art form from dying by buying a traditional knife.
Great review Bob! Not an overview , but a good review. I'm glad to see that you collect. Please wear shoes while chopping. That thing will go through green wood like butter!!
In your opinion, how was the costumer service for getting the blade? I've been looking at ordering a custom 3 Chirra (essentially the blade of The Beast and the handle of Guardian Angel 3 Chirra) with the special Karda and Chakmak with a sheath to hold them.
these are great blades - i bought the current issue for the Gurkhas in Afghanistan right now - it is same as yours with a different handle - awesomee weapon - worth the money - needs better sheath which i bought and the handle needs better grip which i will machine into it - then it will be perfect - strike with the belly where all the power is buddy - each one is unique made for you - a true character - not two the same
I want the 5 chirra but i live in the uk do you have any idea if they deliver to the UK ad great review much appreciated,I have a condor heavy duty kukri but I'm looking for a slightly bigger one
The edge that is closer to the handle is meant to be used for non-chopping tasks and is therefore sharper where as the end and larger part of the blade are meant to be used for chopping purposes so that is less sharp i think
Just received mine, ordered it on 21/09/13 arrived 30/09/13.. I have to say I'm very impressed with this piece of kit, cost me £90. Bargain, best blade in my collection..
Thank you so much for the good video I'm asking questions on the 18 inch Apocalyptic for 110.00 dollars plus shipping 36 dollars will see what they say also they have free engraving!thanks again for the good video!
don´t worry, they are very trustfull people, the owner is a friend of mine and i have ordered many times! I bet you are going to be really impressed by those Blades. Be patient, i know it´s hard....cheers!
i dunno, the 5 chirra looks amazing, but i have never had a machete or knife that had 1800g. still, it has +2" on the blade vs the 3 chirra and, again, it looks phenomenal
just got mine two days ago, and I managed to chop through a bamboo stalk, and one inch rope. love it. kukri house is the best place to get authetic kukri ghurkas, no else even comes close to high quality weapons as kukri house.
Also, the reason it took you so much time to cat the 2x4 in half, because it was flexing. You should have put it on solid ground, more stable resting place.
lol funny writing, Hey Bob i apologize if i didnt see the whole video because of internet complications but did you say anything on how sharp it is because in my experience the bigger the blade the less sharp it is. and i need something that is really good for slashing but is durable enough to hold a keen edge. Thanks
That was what I was thinking, I can't find one bad review of these kukris. It's definitely a "monday specimen", as we'd call it in this part of the world. So, what remains is to decide whether to fix the handle or keep it as it is. Whatever I'll do to it, it's going to ruin the authenticity, but I had hoped to be able to use it.
I definitely recommend them. A 5 chirra would be outstanding. Check their website for the shipping price you can get it by entering your order without actually purchasing.
Have you received yours without a problem? I just ordered one and am worried myself. If you did receive yours without a problem how long did it take to arrive??
It came somewhat sharp, but I noticed the sharpness was not totally consistent along the blade. Sharper at some points than others. I took my Lansky clamp system and using the 30 degree angle I put an even edge along the whole length, and now the thing is the 8th wonder of the world! I love it and plan to get other kukris from those people.
How is the fitting of the handle on that thing? I got the Panawal Dotted recently, supposedly by the same manufacturer. I like the blade, but the handle is really poorly fitted and there are a lot of sharp edges where the wood doesn't fit the metal.
What machines? The steel is heated in an open stone hearth and hammered using anvil and tongs. The blade is sharpened by hand and the sheath is handmade and finished as well. I watched the video and the only piece of electrical equipment I saw was a hand drill for drilling the holes in the handle.
Wow, no not al all. The wood is mated to the handle perfectly. It is very good quality. I was thinking of grtting the Panwal dotted next and Sootch has a review on it and says it is really good too. Maybe you got one made by an apprentice.
I went ahead and ordered one from Kukurihouse, received my PayPal receipt, but never received an email confirming my order. Is this normal? I've sent several emails, but have not got a response yet.
The wood they use to make the sheaths is cottonwood and the leather is two year old water buffalo and the steel is Mercedes-Benz Saab are Volkswagen truck leaf springs I worked in Nepal in 2010-16 teaching digital photography and one of my students wad a good friend and his brother worked at a blacksmith shop where they made swords and Khukuris I still have two Khukuris one is a MK 1 and the other is a Afghanistan combat Khukuri and I wouldn't take a million dollars for them
I don't think he meant to disrespect it, "funny" is often used informally in common parlance to describe something new, foreign or that you do not understand, without bias. People in the knife community have plenty of bias against China and some other countries for a plethora of reasons (can't say I agree with all of them), but I do not think I have ever, not even once, heard a knife enthusiast have a negative opinion of Nepal, Nepalis, or the culture of Nepal. On the contrary, I hear no end of positive comments. Khukuri buyers swear by them, travelers loved the country and its people, and people who served alongside Ghurkas all respect them No need for suspicion, we all love you guys ;)
It was fine. Once I placed the order I received an e-mail with a expected shipping and delivery date which was about 7 weeks out. Before that day came I had to go out of town unexpectedly and the trip overlapped right during the time the knife was to be delivered. I didn't want it sitting outside getting rained on and stolen, so I sent an e-mail asking for the shipping to be held another week. They were happy to oblige and all turned out well. The hardest part was the wait. :)
I plan to buy the 3 Chirra, but I want a Kukri with the two little tools (the Karda and Chakmak) as well, included in the sheath- like most kukri's have. Do you miss them, as this is definitely the kukri I want and I am not sure if it would be worth the 'sacrifice" . (I have looked all over their website) PLEASE HELP!! :D
Didn't seem to sharp from that chopping test, although it has awesome power and weight behind it. Also I think you should use a lanyard next time you you don't drop it :)
I was wondering what that cut out in the blade was so I googled. Kukri blades usually have a notch (kauda, kaudi, kaura, or cho) at the base of the blade. Various reasons are given for this, both practical and ceremonial: that it makes blood and sap drop off the blade rather than running onto the handle. that it delineates the end of the blade whilst sharpening; that it is a symbol representing a cows' foot, or Shiva. The notch may also represent the teats of a cow, a reminder that the kukri should not be used to kill a cow, an animal revered and worshipped by Hindus. So on..
Do you mean chopping the wood? Eventually all knives will dull with use, so you just resharpen them. I have already used my lansky clamp system on this kukri and used the 30 degree setting which is perfect for it. The kukri is sharp and ready for anything. This thing is impressive. They really know how to make a kukri over there in Nepal. This is the genuine article. Click the link under the vid and get yourself one too, you won't be disappointed.
It took about 7 weeks to get mine. But I asked them to delay it for a while because I was away on a trip when it would have been delivered. I think it would have taken maybe 6 weeks otherwise.
i never thought it possible to import any kind of knife without getting stuck in customs anywhere in the world i might add this wouldn't even get accross European borders looking at the size of it
Churra means a bigger knife and churri means smaller blade. its named 3 churra because if you look at the pattern on the blade it looks like 3 blades pattern and by the way this knife is tougher than cold steel san mai and sk 5 kukri.

_At least wear some spiderman or batman slippers for added protection._
I watched a video on them being made and I tell you it's awesome just watching them make a complete Kukri from the leaf spring to the sheath. Your knife is a beauty. Thanks for sharing.
At exactly 6:37, he dropped the blade.
also chopping with socks on... smh
That's The Beast and it chopped the two by four pretty darn easy, the more you use it the easier it will get. Bob you got one darn good camping chopper.
subcribed already well explain, keep up loading more videos

I think you will be happy with it. These guys really know how to make a kukri. Thanks for your service. Take care and Godspeed.
That is one nice Kukri. Good info and video.
Is there an average shipping time from Nepal to the states? I assume it could be a month or more from order placement to receiving the product.
Nice one, can't go wrong with that chopper.
I placed an order for The Frank Gonzales Redemption knife, made by Kukuri House, can't wait.
Thats the place I get my ones from. I love them.
I love this video!!! I bought a Mini Jungle and a Service No. 1 (Sarkhari Khukuri) from the Khukuri House and i am buying one for my dad since he is not believing my discription of how fanatastic these "Knifes" are. Or.... If you wanna go overkill then get the 14.5" (not including the handle) 5 chirra saw it for $150
mate how sharp was that khukri out of the box? i was told by the Australian stockist for the khukri house told me "the beast" is his favourite due to the sharpness and its ability to hold an edge. did you try shaving your arm with it, before you hacked through that lumber? Nice review by the way.

sweet review brother! cool looking chunk of steel there. thanks for sharing
Awesome blade and video.
whats the blade size, and how much did it cost you including shipping ? thanks
Gorgeous! I ordered mine, they shipped in 48 hours, they must have it in stock.
I love my Kukri. It is the big brother of the beast. It is the 5 Chirra. We took it out while camping and it was great for the firewood.
Great review Bob! Not an overview , but a good review. I'm glad to see that you collect. Please wear shoes while chopping. That thing will go through green wood like butter!!

wow. i'm not really a knife guy but this is absolutely gorgeous.

Tip: WD-40 is a terrible oil for rust prevention because it evaporates. Use beeswax or paraffin wax instead.
Did you batoning with this knife? I think that would be a faster way to get through the 2x4.
Ahh i see. Thats cool!! :D
Are these special tactical socks?
I want the 5 chirra but i live in the uk do you have any idea if they deliver to the UK ad great review much appreciated,I have a condor heavy duty kukri but I'm looking for a slightly bigger one

Wont that blunt the knife?

Came with a newspaper as litra-chure, Bob! :D
Where can I find the video of them making khukuris?
Yes, I did. In fact I am reading it again right now and you really should do some housekeeping in there.
don´t worry, they are very trustfull people, the owner is a friend of mine and i have ordered many times! I bet you are going to be really impressed by those Blades. Be patient, i know it´s hard....cheers!

Himalayan imports?
Tora blades?
Tora and himalayan imports are the best!
Leocernask8 khukurri house is also incredibe
But no near Tora or HI
could have gone through it faster if he didny hit like a girls blouse
I like Bob and his reviews but this comment made me lmao..
How long did it take to receive yours?
Also, the reason it took you so much time to cat the 2x4 in half, because it was flexing. You should have put it on solid ground, more stable resting place.
Has anyone got the ParaCord Pro from Kukri house? Is it any good?
If you are still wondering, I would stay away from it
Awesome kukri
lol funny writing, Hey Bob i apologize if i didnt see the whole video because of internet complications but did you say anything on how sharp it is because in my experience the bigger the blade the less sharp it is. and i need something that is really good for slashing but is durable enough to hold a keen edge.

Hi,is it allowed to have a kukri in UK?i recently moved to uk and i would like to own one.will i have any problem with the law?

i am thinking of getting the new 5 chirra, what do you know about it ? the only thing that i am concerned about is the weight, 1800g.
....That's one bad ass khukuri
probably should have worn some shoes in that destruction test, lol
I know this is stupid for asking but can I really trust kukri houses website
---> AMAZON.com
I definitely recommend them. A 5 chirra would be outstanding. Check their website for the shipping price you can get it by entering your order without actually purchasing.

18:30 actually paid this on Amazon today. It comes Monday. Amazing.

your camera gives an old school quality. looks pretty "classic" if you want to put it that way :)
I went ahead and ordered one from Kukurihouse, received my PayPal receipt, but never received an email confirming my order. Is this normal? I've sent several emails, but have not got a response yet.

@0:37 you said funny writing. wtf that's Nepali script and every Nepalese are proud of it.

I think they use Vaseline to coat the blade not greese
An amazing blade

1st!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just curious, but doesn't it come with those two little tools? I say tools because one of them isn't a knife, it's a steeling implement I guess.
"Better to die than be a coward" is the motto of the world-famous Nepalese Gurkha soldiers who are an integral part of the British Army.
thanks for your reply.......wow the shipping is so expensive !
Didn't seem to sharp from that chopping test, although it has awesome power and weight behind it. Also I think you should use a lanyard next time you you don't drop it :)
great bit of kit.
I have one but got it a LONG time ago, but the sheath on mine has sharpeners and such.
THEY"LL BULK YOU UP, MANG
Lack of skills to use it sir
I've ordered two kukris from Khukuri House and both were at my door within a week lol
I was wondering what that cut out in the blade was so I googled. Kukri blades usually have a notch (kauda, kaudi, kaura, or cho) at the base of the blade. im in marines now im going to order it
Is it full tang? I a khukuri so bad but i want one thats full tang, not "rats tail" tang.
sends you to another country
My order was placed on may 4th, and aside from a PayPal receipt from Wenger, all my emails have gone unanswered. I'm starting to get worried.
Nice
It took about 7 weeks to get mine. But I asked them to delay it for a while because I was away on a trip when it would have been delivered. I think it would have taken maybe 6 weeks otherwise.
there must be solid support behind the object it is bouncing in every shot.
Holy sh!t, i looked at at kukris on khuhukrihouse, found almost the same one before seeing this video..
Did you read my mind?
I like khukri
I'd recommend wearing socks, as I wouldn't want to chop off me toe.
Dont forget to see how this Kukri was made. Official Video :
ruclips.net/video/De6loa4jE0A/видео.html
i never thought it possible to import any kind of knife without getting stuck in customs
anywhere in the world i might add
this wouldn't even get accross European borders looking at the size of it
great unwrapping technique
No , they don't make it when you order . They have tons of what ever model you want being sold in their store.
I would be so scared if his my dad D:
Thank you very much, I shall!
Churra means a bigger knife and churri means smaller blade. its named 3 churra because if you look at the pattern on the blade it looks like 3 blades pattern and by the way this knife is tougher than cold steel san mai and sk 5 kukri.
nice knife, I just got my 5 chirra kukri knife and because a mistake from dhl I got mine for 79.99 dollars instead of the original price.
