I’ll confess, I watched all the bonus video first before digging into the chapters and footnotes. 2-3 hours a day now spent on studying scripture. Your book has helped me to kick start my “deep dive” or quest to “learn more” Thank you both!
What could our Royal priestly hosts in our Church accomplish if all endowed members understood to awake, arise, put on your robes, come out of Babylon, issue a clarion call to come to Zion, make covenants for personal purity, faith, hope, charity toward all, malice toward none, blessing the land to receive her kings and queens of righteousness, to institute peace and harmony among our community. May we NOW choose to all be made lesser “kings of righteousness” (melchi-zedek) to be kept “in the name”, to be endowed with real and true power from on high, call down angels to assist in the gathering work, to command the dismissal of dark entities, to provide a place of refuge for those seeking to escape the captivity and chains of demons and principalities. We need to study the B of M on a whole ‘nother level!! Ask, seek, knock, knock, knock…to have the scales of darkness fall from our eyes and open to Wisdom, to offer ourselves wholly up as servants to the Most High for His work of gathering in the Harvest. I want the next volume of the B of M…so study up people!! 😊
I received the book last week, and started reading today. I spent about 3 hours on the first few pages. Much of that on the references, most of it on pondering. This interview was helpful. Looking forward to a serious study.
Loving the book. This helps. Trying to read all his stuff. He's one of those smart guys who makes me feel very dense (not smart), but anyone can still enjoy learning. Dig the facial hair, Oak.

@lindamartinez7006 Sorry. I didn't mean for that to sound bad. By fiction, I was referring to some great novels he published under different variations of his name - like City of the Saints by D.J. Butler.
@lindamartinez7006 He has also written some great fiction novels (under various names). That is the fiction I was talking about. Not his non-fiction scholarly gospel oriented works, that I also love.
43:00 Looking at the other names in the Book of Mormon, I've seen a good case for Cumorah, Moroni, Mormon, etc coming from the Egyptian root MR meaning water. Also notice how authors add descriptions usually in parallel with names. For instance, waters of Mormon, or "hill Cumorah; and it was a land of many waters, rivers, and fountains." There is more to it, but that's the basic idea.
On the Shem subject. He is also a Son of Adam or “Man”. Is also a great high priest Melchizedek. So he also shares with Christ, the title “Son of Man”!!
If Moses's basket had a sacred covering or seal or mark could it be that Pharaoh recognized it and this is why he allowed Moses to live instead of having him killed like all the rest of the baby boys?
Thank you for acknowledging that Nibley saw this. If you watch Nibley’s Book of Mormon class published by FARMS Nibley goes to Egypt and his student aide (Jack Welch) teaches the units on third Nephi and the Temple Sermon. So Welch is teaching off Nibley s notes. So when you have humbly given credence to Jack Welch I have always wondered, does he know Welch taught Nibley class on this subject matter? It’s probably Nibley who saw this? But it doesn’t really matter what is sad is that for 20-30 years we as a body of temple initiates have been generally blind to this. Who knows what energy has been lost letting it sit dormant for so long? Imagine the strength parents trained in this would have passed on to the rising generations.
Yeah, I only realized after writing ADAM that I had probably absorbed some of these ideas from Nibley without realizing it, thirty years ago. I did a very short chat with the Paul brothers about it, pointing out some specific points in TEMPLE AND COSMOS and THE MESSAGE OF THE JOSEPH SMITH PAPYRI. And it is embarrassing that Nibley would say this stuff over and over and we (I) didn't get it.
Makes me think of the Star Wars trilogy....Jedis all being hunted down and killed. Some escape and then it's restored again or comes out of darkness when Luke comes of age. lol On a serious note, it definitely makes sense when the Prophet, the Qof12 and various other leaders have always stressed the importance of how constantly studying the BofM and attending the Temple as much as you can will bring you closer to the Savior . Another good episode with Dave. :)
Are you kidding me ? The guy is crazy . Taking blows in the ancient temple . Nayyy Nephi had a crazy evil brother . It was not a ritual . His crazy brother even wanted to kill his own father . Not a Temple ritual . I really really think our Presidency should see this .
When you were talking about the “gloomy” priests I thought you were going to mention that they might be priest assigned to officiate in the middle room, which would be the darker room, also a room where the king comes down to feed you and give you wine before going into the room with light
It's the mullet for me. That's how I know Dave speaks truth. 😜 Dave if you're reading this, grow your mustache out so it's longer than your hair. You'll be translated on the spot! Jokes aside, I'm halfway through his book and it's incredible! A must read for all lovers of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ!
I like to read the initial account of Zeniff with 2 Nephi 5 in mind. Zeniff knew the early history of Nephi and wanted to reclaim those glory days where they lived after the manner of happiness in the Land of Nephi. But the exception is his narrative reads more secular (Large Plates) than the narrative of Nephi from the Small Plates. Nephi talks about building a temple and consecrating priests and teachers. Zeniff's record doesn't reference those things though it appears they did have them.
Going along with Melchizedek as a name for Christ when encountering the veil, Ether 3:1, 6-13 has the brother of Jared being told to arise, then he sees the flesh and blood of the Lord through the veil and is brought into His presence, all in a place called Shelem. Even though Melchizedek doesn't show up explicitly, the imagery of the flesh and blood, the veil, and Shelem/Salem is striking. Moroni says in v. 17 that he doesn't make a full account of the experience, so who knows if Melchizedek was mentioned in the original account of Ether/brother of Jared?
Y'all should look into the worlds without numbers, the Garden of Eden, the cherubim at the entrance & read Alma 42... 🤔 Eternal knowledge.. so much to learn. Love listening to y'all!! 🙏❤️⚘️
This is a great book. Dave's theory about there being ritual blows as part of ancient temple worship struck me as odd for a while. I was talking with an elderly woman at church who converted about a year or so ago about her Catholic upbringing. She shared how as a part of their confirmation ritual the person being confirmed was slapped on the cheek by the priest. She said they discontinued this some years ago it but it was part of what she experienced and she indicated she did not find it pleasant. Reading online it seems others got a light slap or tap of the palm on their cheek but not the more shocking slap that others received. I guess it depended on the Priest?? On hearing this from her I was immediately reminded of what I've read in Dave's books and heard him speak about and wondered if this wasn't carried over from the past. She indicated she didn't know why they did that and I said it could perhaps be a leftover from ancient temple rituals but that it was not something we practiced in our temples today. I said that because she is preparing to go through the temple herself soon and she understands the concept of the apostasy.
Give me a break please . Catholic are crazy ok . They even have some who whip themselves . David Butler is crazy too . He even says it is his theory . Ok will his theory is wrong . There was never a ritual slapping any one in the face . Or cheek . He even says Nephis brother beating him up was a temple ritual . No it was an evil neither beating him up and even trying to kill him and even wanting to kill his father . Has nothing to do with any ancient temple ritual . The gut is loosing his mind and people are swallowing this balony . Why do you people believe theories ? Why ? This guy is not a prophet . He has some crazy ideas and theories . I just wish our leaders could hear what he is teaching . He never quits. Mary and heavenly mother are the tree of life . No they are not . Jesus is the tree of life . He teaches different doctrines then our leaders do .
When you are talking about saboth that word can be found in d&c 98:1-3 as he is saying he hears the prayers of his friends and has covenanted with an oath to answer them. Interesting
52:30 I know Jewish tradition has Shem = Melchizedek but just add up the ages in the genealogy in the Septuagint and one quickly realizes that Shem and Abraham were not alive contemporaneously.
There is plenty of evidence of ancient secret mystery rites/plays in the old world. It is easy to believe there was a first version that was given by the true prophets. But then other versions were developed by people that rejected the prophets. So the Mormon endowment is not anything new The Jewish Tikkun Leil Shavuot, though medieval in origin, is along the same lines. Yes, if you buy the book there’s a QR code that links to an audiobook.

Shem is identified in D&C as Melchizedek
Re: Shem as Melchizedek--- Nibley's book, "Enoch the Prophet" has some discussion of overlapping figures of that time.
