  • Have you wondered if you are "Good Enough" to switch to Triskates This experimental skate class video by Skatefresh & Powerslide shows two groups of new learners, some on normal 4x80s inline skates and others on Powerslide Triskates.
    Did you think Beginners could learn straight on 3 wheel inline skates? Watch and find out...
    „I wanted to make this video in order to answer the many questions that I now receive regarding Triskates. Everyone has noticed that I've switched to Triskates so it's natural for people to ask my advice.
    One of the most common questions was "Can I learn to skate on Triskates?". My official answer was "Why not?" because I know that learning solid technique is essential in the early stages. If you skate well, you can skate on anything. But I wanted to test this theory, and this video was the test! We decided to bring together two groups of learners, those on Triskates and those on traditional 4x80s inline skates. I found a group of skaters interested in being involved and we planned two classes with me as a group and then a couple of weeks of practice time in between these two classes for them to skate alone and improve. I love the video diaries from the skaters and they give us a real connection to the emotions involved in learning to skate (excitement, fear etc). Watch the video to see which group did better...“

    I just put 4 x 80 s back on my PS next after skating 3 years on 110s just to see what it felt like , well to my surprise they felt way easier to skate with !! and so much faster on acceleration . 110s are great for going long distances , but 4 X 80s are more agile in town and safer i find , i also skate 3 x 100 and 3 X 90s which are nice too , I think the 110s are clumsy,

    I got myself 4x80's because it was the most familiar, but when the wheels wear out I may switch to a 3x100 frame and wheels instead and try out the difference. The roads here do get quite rough at times, so I would expect to benefit from larger wheels. I do like short sprints and sharp turns a lot more than just doing distances, so I still want to be able to do those things too.

    I love the fact that I can switch from 4 wheel to 3 wheel frames with my Powerslide TAU skates and I love both frames, but both for different reasons. The triskates (3x110mm) are definitely faster and MUCH smoother on the street. The 4 wheel skates (4x80mm) are much more fun for tricks. Then again, my 4 wheel setup is rockered so it is like always being on two wheels with the ability to shift what two wheels I am using at what time.
    If I had to choose only one frame, it would have to be the triskate frame. Far more versatile over all and still a blast even with tricks.

    • @SkatefreshVideos

      I am secretly in Love with the Tau skate and I think it's the ideal looking skate and having both frames is THE solution, so you can choose depending on what skating you are doing. I'm hoping Tau is the next Powerslide skate I fall in Love with.... I'll let you know.

    swaped from 4x84 wheels to 4x90 and love the higher speed. Would even like to get faster but with 4x90 you lack far on mobility. Thats why now I wanna swap to 3 wheels but I'm not sure if i should take 110mm or 125mm because I'm no Speed Skater / Racer on Tournaments or so. So I don't need the fastest wheels and i don't want to get more immobile than I'm already on 4x90

    • @PowerslideInlineskates
      @PowerslideInlineskates  4 года назад +1

      if yo are on 4x90 right now and want to try out 3 wheel skates, we would recommend a 3x110mm version. it will be about the same speed if not a tiny bit faster (depending on your wheels, of course) and more agile compared to a 273mm length 4x90mm setup.

      I bought some Powerslide next pro 110 about 1,5-2 years ago. And this was definitely the for me perfect way to go....
      More agile than what I had before, a lot more faster and smooth on rough surfaces. I bought a endless trinity frame for some new experience while skating and have to say I already miss my triskates. Gladly I can triskate on this frame but maybe I will even get back to my standard frame because its much more flexible due to its shorter wheelbase....
      All in all I love triskating with the for me perfect size of 110

      yes, it is. we do offer rockerable triskate frames, where the 2 back axles can be rockered up or down to create a hockey like rocker or an even crazier only middle wheel down banana rocker feeling.

    You got the sensation that larger wheel triskates are faster... but they aren't! I made several measurments and my Kaze 4x80 wheel skates hold speed far better then the 3x110 Kaze Supercruiser.
    Just try to compare some good 4x80 wheelers against triskates on a slope, they will roll way much further. The difference is about 30%!
    Just try them!

    • @lazydaze3134
      @lazydaze3134 7 лет назад +1

      MrKA1961 I road a 110mm setup for about a year alongside my 4 wheels. Switching from time to time. The tri skates do seem to hold speed better on rough surfaces but are very noticeably harder to get up to speed. I found that I actually get worn out faster in the tri skates. Of course I skate very aggressively so this could have something to do with it. I also crushed the core in several expensive 110mm wheels supposedly meant for urban skating doing gaps. It's 4 wheels for me.

    • @MrKA1961
      @MrKA1961 7 лет назад +5

      On rough surfaces the 110 mm performs better, that's true. But when it comes to "which rolls further" when you get a certain speed on the same (not very rough...) road the 4 wheeler is a clear winner.
      Tried on a slope which continues in a horizontal road. The 110 mm at first gained speed a little bit faster but then... the 4 wheeler gained even more speed. Then, on the horizontal part of the road the triskate rolled 200 meters whereas the 4 wheeler rolled 270 meters. Done the measurements a lot of times, changed the bearings in the 3x110 from ABEC 9 to ILQ9 pro...the result was the same.

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos 7 лет назад +1

      I'm curious, did you do these experiments with 2 skaters at the same time using the 2 different frames or always yourself as both "testers". Your body weight also plays a factor in downhill speeds so if it's different haters you'll need to take that into account.
      I won't argue with your results as they are results, however how can you measure how they "gain more speed" if they aren't side by side racing.. Also did you begin with any skating strides or just a slow rolling start?
      I have not done these kind of tests, all I know is that downhill I pass everyone in 4x80s when just rolling.
      For me your best experiment is the 270m compared with 400m reliability on the flat after the slope. This feels very accurate with what I experience.

    • @MrKA1961
      @MrKA1961 7 лет назад

      I did the experiments with 2 skaters, (one of them was myself) then we changed the frames. There were no significant differences which could be linked to the body weight (i'm 75 kg and the other skater, my daughter weighs 50 kg)

    • @MrKA1961
      @MrKA1961 7 лет назад

      Each time the 4x80 is a clear winner. I'm not a troll,try it yourself, if you don't believe me... The skates were the two new KAZE-s, with the Trinity mount.

      using just two wheels on 4 wheels frame is dangerous for your frame, and you correspondingly, it just can crack because of the higher load.

    • @zshocksoda1128
      @zshocksoda1128 7 лет назад +1

      Whether or not it cracks corresponds to the frame material. Heavy duty aluminum frames seen on urban inline skates won't break no matter the two wheel pressure. That's troublesome for less stiffer frames. Though 'gapping' (jumping from terrifying heights) in two wheelers is not recommended either.
