Oh, hey Carl! I never realised you had a RUclips channel, I've followed your blogs for many years. You were a godsend when I was trying to figure out the sims medieval.
I thought I was gonna learn a lot of new things about Island Living, but the only thing I didn’t already know was that Sulani has a health system. That’s interesting to know.
Mermaids cant snorkel. So of you go into the marine biology tree of the conservation career you have to go to the deep buoys and survey the ocean floor to get your daily task done. Took me too long to figure out >.
get this somewhat to the top!!! you can see what's going on during scuba diving! once your sim is underwater scuba diving, click (shift + tab) , which is first person mode. to exit click the same keys as above
If your sim has the child of the ocean trait, you can call a dolphin from wherever you in the water. Also that trait makes it so your sim feels tense or uncomfortable from eating fish or catching fish. So do not get the child of the ocean trait if you want your sim to eat or catch fish without them feeling bad about it.
For the price of the pack, they should have included an underwater world that you can go into. Better yet, make a place underwater unique to mermaids somehow. I bought island living and mermaids dont really have a lot of abilities besides looking pretty. Would be nice if they included some other features. Also, there are still some glitches in game, for ex: mermaid swims like a human at times, sims transport to different areas of my lot (I dont use cheats so its a glitch), and issues with parties in-game. Plus, there isn't a lot of public lots you can go to. They have two beaches and one bar. You can't even go to any of the beaches for a date at any time. That only leaves the bar, which isn't the most fun. It's a beautiful pack but they could have included so much more.
Kayla Nozawa If you played Sims 3 Island Paradice, you should know that the features such as, underwater view and boat houses made the game very glitchy and almost unplayable, even on a strong computer. It wouldve been a nice feature to have, but I personally would rather have a working game instead of an underwater view. Not to mention they’ve added lots of new cool mermaidic interactions that we didn’t have in the Sims 3, you just have to look for them.

I think sims who master one of the business career tracks get a trait called investor. Even if they leave the career they get money each week from “investing.” This along with the discounted build/buy aspiration reward trait is a great way to make money without having to really do anything.
That's the type of thing I've seen when snooping around the xml so far, looks like a great change. I'm going to redo my fishing guide as it sort of shits on bait as it does nothing but boost skill levels at that time, now we get something legit grounded in reality.
I enjoy reading the guide you have on your site (came in handy more then once) and now need to keep an eye out for the videos. One thing I did miss was the new hidden place to explore (that my sim will be heading to 😋). Ty for the extra info
You can easily buy kelp anytime for aspiration points with no cheats. It sucks, actually. Even finding kelp in the cave is a too easy way to become a mermaid.
Our experiences were very different that's for sure. I went 2 laps around that island before I saw it on the map. Unfortunately all the trees made me kind of sick, and I always sucked at "Where's Waldo?" (though I did love it)
@@CarlsSimGuides I sucked at "Where's Waldo?" too! This was just a lucky thing. If it were's for your guides, I'd still be looking for all those hidden worlds in sims 4, so thank you!
When I bought sims 4 for my Xbox, island living came with the game and surprisingly it’s probably the pack I’ve messed around with the least on my Xbox (those beach combers are safe for now)
I don't know if anyone has commented this yet because the video is 2 years old but you do need seasons to control the weather. I just bought Island Living and cannot control the weather. Thank you for the video :)
Love your video maybe one on what styles available for each age and gender. What I am mainly looking forward to when this game downloads on my ps4 is the hairstyles for kids. Children finally get a mohawk haircut.
Oh mah gawd. In seasons they reworked gardening now with update before the Island Living they reworked fishing. My favourite skills. I am only waiting for a bit of rework for the handyness (I dont remember the actual name) and then I can die happy.
If you get the island health high enough you get sea turtles nearby. It’s cool. Your aspirations give rewards. Like for Botanist you get to be fire proof and put out fires with no harm to you ever. The careers do give rewards although they are a bit odd. A four poster bed from the artist one. Some odd stuff in the Sims 4. Really need a computer without Microsoft 10 to play Sims 3 again. I miss it.
It'd be buggy if it works via scuba. But wow, I just tried and it does show you an underwater view while snorkeling, and I hadn't tested it. Thanks for asking this!
Carl's The Sims Guides would be great to have a look on this view. I did not bought expansion yet and was not able to find any video ;) Edit: found one here: ruclips.net/video/NsUG2QEXv40/видео.html
For this expansion pack, there are two ideas I wish the team had used instead of the ones they had. The first one is a more complex way of becoming a mermaid rather than the simple 'easy to find/buy and consume kelp' method. A hidden world with tasks after befriending a mermaid who offers some kelp as a reward would be better. Like how in the vacationing world in Outdoor Retreat the hermit unlocks certain recipes after befriending them. The second idea is a way to surf. Either on the water itself somehow or even just by using a machine similar to the one used in Sims 2 for the GameCube console. Otherwise it doesn't look too bad.
If you mean the "spawner" cave aka mermaid grotto its not really an interactable cave just a map-decoration. but if you are near that shipwreck cave (the one in this video) and scroll a bit to the right on the map you will get to some beach sections around that mountain one has a toppled over dark pillar and near that is a "spawner" location they just call it secret mermaid grotto because its often mermaid sims that spawn there
Great video as always, but I the Dolphins have come up to the deck on my Sims's home in the 50x50 lot. Granted my Sim did not get very far in befriending the dolphin but it happened and my Sim has not been to a buoy yet. The dolphin came up when my Sims had swam back after retrieving a float that had moved well away from the lot. After reading he other comments, I am going to work harder on getting a friendship with the dolphins. Thanks for all of the great information you have provided on the Sims.
But! How do i open up the other hidden cave on the island...? The one that is light up by the volcano it seems... does it have a connection to the picture on the right of the other cave? Mine is almost filled up but it takes ages...
Hi Carl, I’m wondering if there’s likely to be a mission similar to StrangerVille with Island living. The reason being, I moved my sim into shipwreck cove and there was a treasure chest hiding behind the walls with no door access to it. I could have teleported to open the chest but I’d rather play the game if there is a mission involved for getting there. Have u figured anything like this out yet?
I came to see if you had a tip to turn my sim back to normal because I found the mermaid kelp I the cave and I ate nothing know before hand what it does but I found it on your website because I was going to quit without saving it. So thank you.
Eat 2 more kelp to turn back to normal. The first gives you a buff, the 2nd removes mermaid. You can turn back by eating/going into the water, so you can go to and from mermaid at will with a supply of them.
Thanks for the tips -- it's good to know what to look out for to do certain things! And to get a head's up on what bugs are currently plaguing the game. Mermaids sound a little -- um -- fishy right now? :p (Still want to make some, of course, but yeah.)

Awesome, as always! I enjoy getting my notifications. Just downloaded this pack. Can't wait to play and watch your videos.
thanks the tip about vacation home is fantastic was struggling but now i know
You had my sub at the third "Things" 😂😂😂
You can easily buy kelp anytime for aspiration points with no cheats. It sucks, actually. Even finding kelp in the cave is a too easy way to become a mermaid.
Hi Carl! Thanks for the video!
I found that cave last night within the first couple of minutes of playing, completely by accident, lol
When I bought sims 4 for my Xbox, island living came with the game and surprisingly it’s probably the pack I’ve messed around with the least on my Xbox (those beach combers are safe for now)
And I mean that, I didn’t even know mermaids came with the pack until 6 months after I got the game
there is a mural next to the cave. You can complete the mural by visiting the cave very frequently!
Salani is my favorite place to live on the sims. I love the water.
Haven't bought the pack yet & this is already useful to know thank you
Sims 2 would NEVA!! LOOOL she just materialized onto the boat thing 😂😂😂
Kelp can also be bought with aspiration points
Thanks. I've had a few people tell us, so I pinned a comment to make sure people notice.
you're such an uncle, i love it ♥
I don't know if anyone has commented this yet because the video is 2 years old but you do need seasons to control the weather. I just bought Island Living and cannot control the weather. Thank you for the video :)
Hands down best simmer right here folks
Thanks for the video! This will be helpful for when I finally get the expansion :D
Let's hope it'll be for cars, bikes and motorbikes like what they had in TS2!
@@iamgroot6965 very good idea!
we should really be able to surf on island living
Amazing as always
If you get the island health high enough you get sea turtles nearby. It’s cool.
Your aspirations give rewards. Like for Botanist you get to be fire proof and put out fires with no harm to you ever. The careers do give rewards although they are a bit odd. A four poster bed from the artist one. Some odd stuff in the Sims 4. Really need a computer without Microsoft 10 to play Sims 3 again. I miss it.
I love sims but get bored really easily but island living and jungle adventure have me hooked
Is it possible to turn on first person camera view while diving or snorkeling?
It'd be buggy if it works via scuba. But wow, I just tried and it does show you an underwater view while snorkeling, and I hadn't tested it. Thanks for asking this!
Yes, but very jerky. I hope you have a strong stomach... I don't.
Carl's The Sims Guides would be great to have a look on this view. I did not bought expansion yet and was not able to find any video ;)
Edit: found one here: ruclips.net/video/NsUG2QEXv40/видео.html
Hi, I will try later on
I'm new with sims 4, how do you turn on 1st person camera view?
Is it possible to make a tutorial about photography skill and where I can find those stilts?
Stilts are in build mode.
Base game, so turn off filter
First time I used the stilts to build....I wondered why there were so many lol.
Just downloaded this today
Clothing optional isn’t from island living btw😁
You can get mermaidic kelp I’m you’re reward benefits too
Also first person with shift tab & you can see it all
Rissa Young thank you
You can also buy mermaid kelp with your satisfaction points the same way you buy mood potions
I would like to know about the mermaid secret cove that everyone is talking about please >.
Same
If you mean the "spawner" cave aka mermaid grotto its not really an interactable cave just a map-decoration. but if you are near that shipwreck cave (the one in this video) and scroll a bit to the right on the map you will get to some beach sections around that mountain one has a toppled over dark pillar and near that is a "spawner" location they just call it secret mermaid grotto because its often mermaid sims that spawn there
Great video as always, but I the Dolphins have come up to the deck on my Sims's home in the 50x50 lot.
It's from the lot trait, oceanic paradise... If you're in the ocean you can call them
I didnt even know you could do that to the island!!!
Gutted you cant see them snorkel tooo
But! How do i open up the other hidden cave on the island...? The one that is light up by the volcano it seems... does it have a connection to the picture on the right of the other cave? Mine is almost filled up but it takes ages...
Carl, do you know if there will be a fix on mermaid genetics and if so when? I don’t want to buy the pack until that’s being worked on
If your sim is swimming in deep water they can get swept away by the tide
I know this is old but you do need Seasons for the weather effect as a mermaid.
Very helpful! Thanks!!!
Buoy is pronounced "boy" in the UK. Hope that helps. X
Have u figured anything like this out yet?
the hot stones from sims3 would have been nice and would have add a lil something to the gameplay..
@@CarlsSimGuides it worked thank you
@@Thomasville-x your welcome Xd
Hey Carl, what computer type are you using playing this? Hugs from Indonesia
Thanks for the tips -- it's good to know what to look out for to do certain things! And to get a head's up on what bugs are currently plaguing the game. Mermaids sound a little -- um -- fishy right now? :p (Still want to make some, of course, but yeah.)
I can’t buy the diving stick, Can you help me?
This is Carl ?! I’m living rn I though that he was just a blog
Great video!
