this is really helpful thank you! I ended up with this pair to start hiking more seriously but didn't have much of a choice as my feet are just too wide for the other models even if they come in wide widths. the lone peaks fit but the 0 drop felt too unstable. Brooks is the only truly size inclusize running shoe company that I've found.
Thank you for bringing the Brooks Cascadia 16 to my attention. I will try it out together with Salomon X Ultra 4 as recommended in another video by you.
I bought mine just last week, this is my very first Brooks shoe, very wide in the front part and after first day of walking, i can feel that the cascadia 16 was a comfortable shoe not just for hiking but also for casual hilly walking.
Just bought the Brooks Cascadia 17 GTX and walked in the cold and rain today. No slips at all and warm feet all the time!
I have the 16 GTX version and they are superb winter trail runners. The traction is like knobby tires on a truck. Ice snow rain streams puddles, Nothing can stop you! I also hike mountains in them. I would not run road races in them. I would not tun cross country races either , They are bulky built like tank all terrain shoes. Built for protection and traction …NOT Built for Speed! I own 2 pairs and use them alot for my off road adventures. One of my favs
Would love to see a comparison between shoes and sandals . I will be hiking the Swiss Alps mid April into early May. Cool Temp with the possibility of snow on the ground .Will also do urban walks

Would you consider the toe box on these to be large? Or is it a more narrow fit? FYI, I'm accustomed to the toe box of the Altra Olympus 4.
What do you think of the Cascadia 16 GTX? I’m considering it but is worried it will be too hot in a hot climate

Do they have something very breathable in their product range? looking for a summer shoe for hiking when I know it won't rain and I hate getting hot feet. There are unfortunately not many with a mesh like design

I did the whole north part of GR20 with them... that was the best decision i made for GR20...
however, if there could be snow on some parts, you should think about some crampoons...

Yes, but if you are only road running you should get a different shoe.
these or the salomans that won last year?
Last year it was a Merrel that won. This year the Salomon X Ultra won overall but for trail runners the Brooks Cascadia 16 are my pick. I really like the Brooks. The X Ultra are a more precise fit and are less cushioned. I would go for the Brooks if I were you. Of course it depends on what you plan to do. Heavy pack on tech terrain vs lite pack with good trails.

Your review comments regarding drying/waterproofing seem consistent with MANY trail runner from different brands.
Wouldn't this C16 be perfect had it not been "waterproof" and therefore dried faster ?
Why don't manufacturers heed these reviews/comments and stop promoting "waterproof" as a feature when, in fact" it is a hindrance ? 🤔
Неплохая межподошва - 4 балла, ничем она меня не удивила ни в одну, ни в другую сторону, есть упругость на прием, есть отдача на возврат...в зависимости от веса бегуна и длины шага (темпа), эти характеристики (прием/отдача) могут меняться, как впрочем у любой беговой обуви.. Вот собственно и всё))).
1. Верх выполнен в дешманском эконом-варианте , если брать во внимание фирму, которая занимается этим около 100 лет, и позиционирует эту модель, как "флагманскую"! Материал вокруг пальцев - дубовая резина-полиуретан, которая частенько попадается на Саломонах, и которая никогда не подстроится под ваши цели и задачи - ВСЕГДА(!) будет тереть большой палец, если бег в районе часа или больше, несмотря на то, что в районе пальцев есть необходимая свобода и запас!
2. Сетка над пальцами не многослойная, с необходимой защитой, а такой же эконом-вариант, который даст не плохую вентиляцию, но если нарваться на что то жесткое в лоб (низкий кустарник, камень..) - то "пойдет покурить", даже не сомневаюсь (засуньте фонарик внутрь, и всё поймете)...у меня есть обычные шоссейники, в которых эта сетка в разы интереснее!
3. Подошва (протектор). Разумеется, что на сухую в этих кроссах не бегают, разве что по горной сыпухе...а вот то, что происходит после небольшого весеннего теплого дождя, читайте дальше.. Дождался, когда лесные тропы чуть увлажнятся, и побежал..)))..бег по лесным тропам, с выходом на полевой грунт, местами гравийные участи, спуски-подъемы. Подошва наглухо(!) залипает землей, кроссы из 300грамм на ступицу, превращаются в кирзачи с весом по 500-600грамм (думаю не предел) , и всё что мне оставалось делать, так это включать паркинг, и счищать этот беспредел..)))..и так раза 4-5 за более чем часовой бег! Разумеется, побеги я в своих традиционных шоссейниках, в которых бегаю на сухую, ничего подобного бы не было и близко!
С чем сравниваю, из того, с чем столкнулся за последние 5-7 лет: Salomon sense ride, NB 910v4, NB летние темповики (модель не вспомню), Mizuno ibuki3, Mizuno daichi2, Nike pegasus trail3...самый крутой верх у найков, раз надел, как любимы носки, и снимать не хотелось - при любых пробегах и маршрутах, даже намека на натирание любой части ступни не было и в помине...ТАК ЧТО ЕСТЬ С ЧЕМ СРАВНИВАТЬ!
И, кстати, не ведитесь на "широкую стопу" из описания на сайте к этим кроссам...на самую обычную стопу с тонкой/средней костью...и размер в см. указан не как обычно стельки, а вашей стопы, т.е. 42EUR=26.5(стопы) или 27.0(стельки), что тоже не указано на сайте.
Вывод (субъективный разумеется): если эти кроссы кому-нить прям ооочень запали, то единственный вариант, на мой взгляд - это в варианте GTX (гортекс)...летний вариант, на мой взгляд, очень напрасная трата, тем более, что просят за эту модель как за Ferrari! 😆
