As an MMA fighter, Weili started as a grappler. In her second fight they were only allowed ~3 seconds of ground time before the ref stood them up, and she still managed to win by armbar.
That makes sense, actually. She always seems to urgently go for submissions when she is on top, sometimes even when it's a better idea to 'cook' the opponent for a bit more. It lost her a crucial round against Rose, who won by only 1 round and so that mistake is even more crucial in retrospect.
My reading of the Holloway Gaethje fight (as a donk/casual) was that Justin knew he had to meter out his output to contend with Max while at the same time Holloway's output was clearly down on previous iterations. What made the difference was the skill level between the 2. In the final 10 seconds, the ONLY punch to land with any degree of accuracy was the decisive one on the part of Max. Ugh... Precision beats power - I hate to say it, but it's true.
I feel like it was similar to the second Aldo fight. I went and watched it after the last pod with Miguel. Max loves a catch and pitch counter/leg kicker that throws everything into strikes. He worked the body quite a bit still and brought the dawg out. What more can you ask for?
Almost certainly was an intentional step on the foot. Its very easy to do it and it works. Love you guys, but you're way off on that. I used to this in sparring all the time, even vs orthodox fighters.
Definitely possible. The only doubt I would have is that Alex was also actively hand fighting (i think he pattycaked Jamal's lead hand 3 times in quick succession to set the rhythm before launching into that hook. I kinda think, especially after the foul moments before, that there's no way he consciously thought of all those things at once. But it could just be automatic at this point. Maybe someone will ask him and we'll know if it was intentional. He does appear to be pretty deliberate with his setups.
Also fuck the dorks on twitter calling it sloppy. It was but it it wasn't Don Frye vs Takayama sloppy. Which was also fuckin awesome so fuck it. There's a little Just Bleed in all of us
It was just an amazing moment to be a fan. I watched it with my son and we will never forget it. Thank you to fighters who put it on the line for us. Time and time again.
I’ll send you 43 dollars and a shitty pair of used boxing gloves if you bring me onto the podcast with Johnmckane4863 just so I can blindly disagree with anything he says for no particular reason.
@@LeRobb3 I didn't make that connection. I thought Alex was using a TikTok meme to antagonize Hill, which he was. But he was also antagonizing Izzy by doing that.
I think we all agree that calling Zhang "Valentina ShevChina" is funny. (And it's ok for liberals to laugh at too, because it's just a nationality thing, not a race thing)
Love the spinning kick reference to Benny The Jet. A legend of the Long Pants for sure. Fun fact, Dave Mustaine somehow got Benny to teach him kickboxing for a number of years, to the point where Mustaine's wife got Benny to do an intervention for her husband's numerous addiction periods.
@@heavyhands1383 I've heard you reference Rust in Peace on an episodes years ago! I found that little factoid on Mustaine's biography, hope it was interesting 🙂 I don't like Joe Rogan at all, but the episode with Dave does cover a lot of ground on his martial arts adventures. For example, he won his only ever kickboxing competition because he got dick kicked and won by DQ but could not continue in the tournament.
Nitpicky af but no what Alex was doing was definitely setting up the left hook it’s just that it worked much easier and faster than I’m sure anyone saw coming lmao. Hill got got hook, line and sinker.
What I like the most about this podcast is that I'm constantly learning new stuff each episode. For example, I had ZERO idea that Weili Zhang fought at UFC 300.
Episode comment 001: I was somewhat bummed that Gaethje broke his nose in the first round, the fight immediately felt much less competitive after that moment. The last 10 seconds were a gift to Gaethje but it didn't work out in his favor.
I would do one hundred days of challenging Connery to a chess match but he'll never accept it. If its chess, using words he hardly knows the meaning of, fight analysis, promising bonus content that doesn't exist or just talking over people Connor never comes with much despite all the excess noise. As a side note, great fights on 300. We all knew where the bonuses were going despite everyone getting excited like all of the fighters get it. I feel like im the only one who was kinda mad about the announcement, nothing has changed! Haha

tell me how Pereirra doing a meme celebration is different than Shao Khan being the emperor of a legion of demon ninjas but still saying "YOU SUCK."
45 minutes talking about Holloway vs Garth. Thank you boys 🎉❤
First time listening, so great bedtime content! Really enjoying it
only my 2nd podcast im catching while it's been uploaded recently but you guys are cool
My first thought after UFC 300 was "this was a banger card.... Can't wait for the Heavy Hands Episode"

Good shit boys.
This always salvages my mood after a shitty work day. Thanks, guys.
Also, Max and Pereira both rule; the proof is trivial; QED.
Was shocked at how effective that old school back kick was. Happy for Max but not my wallet
Holloway is cool as fuck.
I think the bigger question is not why Gaethje doesn't jab, but why Trevor Whitman doesn't fucking MAKE HIM??
Top 3 card ever🎉
MORE SUMO! Make Phil watch it too and sit silently for most of an episode but deliver 2-4 excellent quips
does the ending of Holloway Gaethje beat Lawler spitting blood and facing off Rory at UFC 189?
Max is cool

Gaethje's plan was to use punch. And like you giys kinda predicted he forgot about the jab until the 4th round.
Punching your opponent is a pretty crazy game plan.
All plan to use punch until other guy use punch on them
