The way around the deal breaker for folks is simple. Flip the living room and the bedroom. You’d only use the living room upstairs before bedtime anyway and there’s room in the place for two TVs! Unconventional but why not? Name of the game in adapting to life in NYC is being able to think outside the box.
@@NormanF62 - A lot of people do not want to see their bed when they do things like cook and eat. It's more natural that the living room is adjacent to the kitchen and dining. Also the room upstairs doesn't have windows and the ceiling is low so it's less suitable as a living room. As a dude, the only adaptable thing I'd do for this place is to get a pee bottle to do your business in the middle of the night.
Yeah that and the fact that it's a full corner staircase and not a ladder you have to clamber up and down in the dark also negates the issue for me. If you can't do stairs though, not an option.
@@TimeIdle - in my younger days driving a semi I learned a new respect for pee bottles. But I have to admit, if the restroom is just a few stairs away... no big deal. 🤣
Being a NY tourist agent would be a lucrative second career for Cash, which he already does very well! If the real estate market struggles for lack of folks wanting to live in the city, there’s no shortage of people wanting to visit it.
$1,900 is not a steal even ON a six figure salary; especially with what you can get in NJ for the same price: a parking space, laundry in the unit, gym, roof deck, elevator, much more square footage, a view...GTFOH
@MEL M And you obviously no nothing about the basic principles of marketing or what a real estate bubble is. That closet upstairs in the loft is amazing. I know “technically” it’s not a 1 bedroom, but even better since it’s prices as a studio. You could probably even put a door or curtain up if you wanted to close it off. This is a great one. Would totally take in a heartbeat
So far one of the best channels to watch during quarantine. If I ever move to NYC (hopefully) I'll use this channel to find an apartment, it's much better than all of the rental websites.
I watch these videos in bed and im so use to kicking my feet when cash runs down the stairs and swing my arm like im catching the door knob imma miss that
Am I the only person here who doesn't really care about in unit laundry? I much prefer a laundry room. That way I can do two loads at the same time, and don't have to hear the noise. Also, I'd prefer to have another closet rather put a washer/dryer into it. (And I def wouldn't want to sacrifice kitchen space for a W/D like I've seen in some of these other apartments.) If there was no laundry in the building at all though, I'd be fine with in unit laundry.
YUP...tear out the lower/middle section and put the bed there...otherwise the juice from that added storage space is not worth the squeeze. I would also paint it as the wood just makes the area look more cramped. All in all, still a great deal.
Yummy. Love this duplex. Especially the amount of space, omg. And will get use to running down stairs to use the bathroom... omg once again!...the space, the space...
Me too! I've had mine for close to 10 years now, and it has never failed me. Only had to fix some things up two times in the recent years, so I'd say it's a pretty reliable brand for sure!
Where are you from? There are two cities that are on TV every night in the USA: NYC and Washington DC. EVERY night. So, it’s so nice to say “I was there.”
Unlike the other two floor 'loft' unit we were shown before, the second floor of this unit is actually workable, you can stand up in it, fit a bed & some furniture in it, + there's lots of really nicely planned storage. With a really nice compact kitchen and bathroom, + enough space in the living area to be more than comfortable on the first floor, at $1,990.00 a month this apartment is a definite 10!
The Food Emporium has been around longer than Whole Foods. I remember the damn jingle! That studio is really nice, if only there was a window or skylight for the top level.
I would love that closet, that’s the one draw back in my house. It amazes me to think of looking out the window and see another state, you can drive over 900 miles and still be in Texas.
This is something I kinda thought it was interesting when I lived in DC. A few blocks from my house I'd be in arlington VA. A couple metro stations up, and I'd be in Maryland.
When I lived in Texas, I could bike to another state or walk to another country! I lived in downtown El Paso, which is practically not in Texas in so many ways. But a few minutes biking and I'd be in New Mexico... or I could walk across the border and be in Juárez, Mexico. Fun note: Sometimes at night my phone would randomly switch over to one of the Mexican cell carriers and I'd get a "Welcome to Mexico" text message!
Yeah. It's true. It was around before Whole Foods but I think it was marketed more like a neighborhood grocery store. Now they have items that Whole Foods would sell. I think Cash has something against Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, & Food Emporium. And there's got to be another grocery store closer than that. Maybe there's something on 10th or 11th, right off the bus line.
You had me at the closet that “is big enough to hold a door” !!! 🤣 And if you own a cat, you can leave the above-fridge cabinet open and - presto! - contents: one cat. I want to live here.
I’d usually say no to a bedroom upstairs without a bathroom, but the stairs in this apartment seem very safe and with a decent handrail. Love the walk in robe as well as the storage shelves in the bedroom - now that’s my kind of entertainment center.
Uncle Mario’s is terrific! The owner is from Italy. I lived in the ‘hood in the 80s when it was very sketchy. Five rooms and a bath for $640 a month. Cool apartment! But it’s in a remote location and HOT HOT in the summer.
I'm an old granny living in Newfoundland, Canada. I love watching your videos. Very interesting to see the size and the prices of the apartments. Every apartment has no curtain rods or window coverings. Catch myself trying to figure out how much window coverings would cost.
Food Emporium is older than Whole Foods. It is more of a Gristedes knockoff. I used to get lunch at that 50th & 8th location 15 years ago. The Amish Market on 9th Ave is a better place and resembles Whole Foods. BTW, that apt is great for the price.
The upstairs will be a great bedroom, but you have to buy one of those beds that comes rolled up and let it expand upstairs, otherwise it will be a nightmare to bring up a box spring and mattress up there with that narrow staircase. The walk-in closet is a dream though. The space is perfect for a single dweller, the kitchen is very nice too.

Great apartment. Very livable and well put together. I think I'd prefer having the bathroom downstairs rather than having guests go through my bedroom and up/down the stairs.
That is, indeed, nicer than some one-bedroom apartments! The upstairs room only lacks an egress window to qualify as an excellent bedroom, and because it's open to the rest of the unit it's relatively safe to sleep there. (Much safer than an "office" in a windowless basement that we know people are sleeping in.) The location of the bathroom isn't optimal, but OK for those with young bladders. ;-) It's a tolerable distance to the subway for the younger set. Altogether a better-than-average studio for a reasonable price. That is, if anything in NYC could be called reasonable.
I love vids with these affordable apartments in it! This apartment is more than what a single human or couple needs, at an actual obtainable price. I think my friend lives right by there too- in that weird shaped highrise by that big old boat ship thingy on the water.
I love this place. Extremely awkward- try opening that dishwasher while standing in front of this sink. Can't be done. Means your dirty dishes can't be in the sink when you load them. Refrigerator opens the wrong way. But man, that bedroom is awesome.
This place is really good. No compromises, really. Would be nice to have a bathroom upstairs, but it's not a dealbreaker. The closet/storage space is excellent and the bathroom/kitchen are superb.

Who takes the train for just one stop? It's a beautiful thing.. have a great Blessed day... I lived 3 doors down from this building... Most of these buildings are very old... Over 100 years old...
The bathroom being downstairs isn’t really a negative for me. Just means that guests don’t have to go through your bedroom to get to it

With all that closet space they should have put an washer/dryer, then the place would be perfect.
If you really wanted to you can get a portable washer and stick it in the closet. But the building itself has washer and dryer on the premise.
