Update: I met Paul yesterday after a wonderful King's Singers concert. I mentioned this clip, he said something like, "Oh gosh, that's right!" And then he began singing "When a Merry Maiden" in his lovely tenor voice! It was surreal and wonderful!
I video-recorded this documentary myself, enthralled by the choir and Paul's "golden voice", as the choirmaster described it. I also purchased St. Paul's Choir's LP record, which I still have. Just wonderful !
Very glad to hear that Paul is doing well. He came to the RNCM as a singing student while I was studying there - a nice chap!

thanks for posting it. i had the great pleasure to meet paul recently and i have to tell that he is and extraordinary person and excelent human being. now i know he have always sang so beautyfull and incredible technique

Amazing he was only 10 years old when he did this and just a junior chorister. I know Mozart was composing operas by then but still!
How beautiful! I know most of the King's singers started out as choristers. I wonder if there clips like this of some of the others. i would love to see them !
The documentary contains a later interview where Paul says much the same thing! He says, "It's horrible...merry maids and things like that." :-)
Have had the pleasure of seeing the King's Singers in concert twice (once in November and once last week) and have met Paul on both occasions. He's a lovely man (they all are). This is wonderful! Are there any other clips of him singing in this documentary that you could upload? (Or maybe even the whole thing if that wouldn't be too much trouble). Thank you for this gem

Paul Phoenix when a boy had the most gorgeous voice in recording history. Yes, there are greater singers, including Maria Callas, Martha Modl, Edith Piaf, Judy Garland, Ludwig Weber... But for sheer gorgeousness of voice he at that age is number one.

Yes that's the same Paul Phoenix of the King's Singers (from 1997 to 2014 anyway).

The perfect voice, but the wrong song. Due respect to Paul, but it's hard to believe he knows much about merry maidens yet! A wonderfully precise and disciplined performance, though.
