Jessica clearly explained that she was giving a *_nod_* to her mother's 1992 Olympic floor not recreate it. The way the uploader decided to title this video sets viewers up to be critical of Jessica and her routine, even though she made it very clear that she wanted to incorporate some components of her mother's arrangement into her own new college performance.
I’m finding YT video titles are the worst. Always just a little bit off, then you start reading the comments and it’s like did you actually watch the video? Lol.
@Vonnie G ~ 1) So true. 2) I just remind myself that plenty of people watch while multi-tasking and may not catch everything; others just skip to the performance/"best" parts of a video....🙆.
I think it’s really sweet she paid tribute to her mom! She said in the interview they don’t have the same style and they had to make some changes for a college routine. Don’t know why people have to be rude. I’m sure her mom is proud!
It’s never an easy fete to perform such an iconic, unique routine. Silvia Mitova’s 1992 Olympic routine (also performed at 1991 Worlds with different tumbling that was upgraded in 1992) still stands up today in every way. But this is so beautifully executed and modified for college. Such a great nod to her mom. Get ready for tears from grandpa! ❤️❤️
Her mum's routine is one of my all-time favourites! Her mum keeps a low profile these days but would love to hear what she makes of her daughter recreating her routine 😍
My favorite routine of all time‼️Thank you for bringing it back🙏. In the mid 90s, a coach told her that I adored her floor routine. She actually wrote, thanked me(‼️)& corresponded a few times. You’re both amazing and I’m starstruck all over again.🫢💪👏❤
How precious for them! I’m glad she’s gotten to pay respect to her moms routine. Shame people are so judgmental. Let her enjoy her work! I liked it. Felt like she was in control and she did great. ❤❤❤
love it! I saw your mom do this routine at 91 worlds--I was thrilled then, and have had a soft spot for it and Blues for Klook ever since then! Go Pioneers!
I still remember seeing Silvia do it at '91 worlds and just being blown away by its utter uniqueness...still to today one of my favorite routines of all time. I love that her daughter reinterpreted it to fit her gymnastics! Well done!
Interesting, I always wished we'd see current gymnasts recreate iconic floor routines. For example, Zmeskal doing Retton's 1984 floor, or Elise Ray doing Miller's 1992 floor, or Khorkina doing Boguinskaya's 1989 floor.
okay I’m not gonna lie she’s maybe not the most iconic dancer ever LOL, but this was really sweet and she has very impressive CONTROL over her aerial tricks. I did competitive gymnastics for my entire youth until adulthood and she is very talented ☺️
I love all gymnastics but I really dislike the way college-level athletes will mimic their teammate's routines within view of the camera. It's great that they are supporting their teammate but it's distracting and they could just as easily be rooting her on from another area.
In certain competitions you're allowed to use a landing mat for difficult skills, usually ones the gymnast has just learned or isn't completely consistent on yet. Choreographers will choreograph the routines so that the difficult passes will end in the same corner so that the mat can be used for both. If a gymnast gets more consistent on one pass, the coaches can pull the mat out after the first difficult pass so it won't be used during the second.
One thing that changed is the body shape of the athletes. They used to be so delicate and now they are more masculine... is there a specific reason for it?
Yeah lmao it’s because they used to be extremely underfed and at dangerously low weights, and now they are allowed to be healthier. I’m not sure that you could really call Rebeca Andrade, Angelina Melnikova, or Sunisa Lee (our last three AA gold medalists) ‘masculine’ - they are strong women with muscles, which you need for an elite sport.
@@demetriromano565 I disagree. As kids/teenagers, and females, it's more natural to have a body as they were before than now. If you really think a female teen can get this body shape, and muscle mass, without the use of non natural substances, you are delusional. They look like men. Plus, her mother didn't look underfed. Are you American? :D Asking because in US people seem to have a different idea of what constitutes underfed. Have you ever entered a gymnasium with teenagers? They are all pretty slim. Toned, but slim. Women's body's can be strong without completely changing their natural shape towards the trapezoid of a human male. If that weren't true, then before 2020 there weren't strong athletes :D :D :D
I think it’s fine but I also don’t see what’s so iconic about Mitova’s routine in the first place. Seems rather low energy compared to a lot of other iconic 80s/90s routines
Friend in the back should have sat down and let her have her moment. I hate people like that. She wasnt even doing the same moves or on tempo which could have thrown her teammate off timing. She needs to be required to sit tf down when other people are performi
No, it's because (a) they have completely different styles, (b) this is a Gymnova sprung tumbling floor, which is different to the foam-block floors that were in use 30 years ago, and (c) this is a college routine, not an Olympic routine, and college routines have different requirements for mandatory elements. That *kaboom* you just heard was the sound of your attempt at trolling imploding into nothingness.

That period between 1980 and 1992 was chock full of gorgeous and experimental choreography in Bulgaria. That only worked so well because of the extensive dance training taught there. Jessica never had that. You can tell in just the last few seconds of the routine where she does the attitude turn. Silvia's is poised and extended with turn-out, parallel to the ground, and high on releve'. Jessica's doesn't even get closed to attitude position.
