30 years on and I still get goosebumps when the bass comes forward at the end of the Galaxy 500 version. It makes me feel old and young at the same time.
you said it best. Same. Thank you
Same thing here, buddy.
It is still very exciting, that bass moment.
I can remember this on cassette, 1984 Nissan, driving through New Hampshire into Maine on a sleeting day in April
For 30 years Dean plays this one the best. And Britta is so stellar..
It´s Dean´s very own atmospheric and charismatic voice that makes this song so distinctive and fascinating...though the guitar sound is extraordinary too....like always.
Joy Division 's Ian Curtis's last song , and New Order 's first . Ian and Bernard Sumner are beyond the infinite phenomenal , and Dean is equally awesome, with a treasure trove of nearly as many great songs as JD/NO. this is a wonderful heartfelt version of Ceremony .
Yeah, a guilt raptured song about committing suicide.
@@paulsavage5057 so what. One of the great songs. End.
It's almost--almost!---like a time machine to 1990 when the galaxy hadn't broken apart yet.

The definitive version of this arguably the greatest rock song ever is the Galaxie 500 version. I’m hoping one day someone can use technology to bring up Ian’s vocals in the Joy Division iterations
Radiohead is my favorite cover, but Galaxie version is also very good.
Greatest ever? Far out.
The new order version is the best. The G500 version is just about the only song of theirs that I don’t like. It’s lifeless.
Everyone's allowed to have their own opinions. But if I ever find the four people who disliked this.... :-)
Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnn!!!!
Fuck off! Do it baby!
We're up to 28 as of this post.... Ridiculous
It is a bit lacklustre, though. Maybe it is supposed to be ever so slightly catatonic. I like it! Perhaps one has to on heroin, or valium, or some other tranquilliser, to get into it, properly. As someone said about Radio head's music, once. I can feel my life force ebbing away from me. Bastards! 💖
I’d agree if this were the Galaxie 500 version.
Dean puts his touch on such a great song. I love this
sublime version of this seminal track!
beautiful cover of a great song
I LOVE this version!
a great guitarist
Man, I love JD and this. Theresa been many many covers this but banged it down and up and... Love al
I still stand by this assertion (echoed below by citileft): that this is the best version of the greatest rock song every written.
Dean rules!!!!!!!!
Nice tribute to JD/NO.Thank you.
So beautiful. Nicely done cover.
Lyrics:
This is why events unnerve me,
They find it all, a different story,
Notice whom for wheels are turning,
Turn again and turn towards this time,
All she ask's the strength to hold me,
Then again the same old story,
World will travel, oh so quickly,
Travel first and lean towards this time.
Oh, I'll break them down, no mercy shown,
Heaven knows, it's got to be this time,
Watching her, these things she said,
The times she cried,
Too frail to wake this time.
Oh I'll break them down, no mercy shown
Heaven knows, it's got to be this time,
Avenues all lined with trees,
Picture me and then you start watching,
Watching forever, forever,
Watching love grow, forever,
Letting me know, forever.
Saw Luna, and Damon and Naomi like a month apart in Seattle way back, wish I coulda saw them together, saw Spiritualized Modest Mouse Sonic Youth Built to Spill Karp and Sleater Kinney that year too! Oh and Joel R.L. Phelps that year. Sooo much good music in that town!
downallyourstreets sounds like an incredible year some of my favorites in that mix
i would love to see built to spill and sleater kinney good god
Drummer wearing a shirt with a Karate Kid 3 review on it. Love it.
The drummer seems so calm...
Superb!
sad boy and proud
It's too neat
I used to spin Galaxie 500's Ceremony cover at 33rpm, and it sounded even better.
Wow. The only cover of this I've ever heard that is faithful in spirit while being a completely original take. Love it.
The first time I heard it I actually didn't know it was a Joy Division song. I don't know how, because I was a huge Joy Division fan at the time, but this cover is so good I thought it was actually a Galaxie 500 original lol
IAN of the ECHO told CEREMONY is the most beautiful song ever...
Turn the speed up to 1.25..... :-)
1.5 is even better!
Lol thanks
Decent performance for what was essentially Ian Curtis' suicide letter to the world.
The Galaxie 500 interpretation is frankly better than joy division’s.
@@adm8995 when Joy Division played it, it was merely a work in progress since it was their latest song (besides "In a Lonely Place") and Ian was probably still tweaking lyrics here and there. It was obvious that it was a powerful song for Ian, and when New Order rose from the ashes of Joy Division after Ian died, you could hear the emotions of the members when they performed it. Ones I know they didn't acknowledge due to being young and oblivious.
Dean Wareham did a good job covering the song with Galaxie 500 and on his own after. He did it differently, but very well.
me gusta
Dean's super low-key vocals work pretty well. The guitar work brings out the beauty. Naomi Yang is missing
Radiohead’s version has a lot Jorey energy to it. Both great but I prefer the original and then Radiohead.
Last Joy Division song. Love Galaxie 500...
Or first New Order? right in the middle!
very familiar title... but i was not expecting a cover :-)
This sounds like the National covered it. Love it
dean, britta, and their son
Dean seems uninterested in the vocal here. Or maybe he was having throat issues. I sped it up to 1.25 and it sounds like the Galaxie 500 recorded version. I used to love when they played this live. If Kramer was on tour with them he would join them on guitar.
Kills it...
Bossa Nova Ceremony
why does he keep playing this song?
Sounds great but he has his own great songs to play.
Obviously amongst his top ten or twenty favorite songs to cover. ;-)
Man this is one of my fave covers in the whole world but I wish they'd bury his vocals here a bit. lol.
Vocals are too up front. The beauty of the Galaxie sound is heavy reverb on vocals, which puts them on equal footing with instrumentation, where they should be.
Bloody hell - pack it in.
galaxie 500
Joy division open their masterpiece to pillage. Foreeeeeeeeeeever
Crappy version, 500 version the best but this is sad, Dean seams bored or not into it, heard bettah at Bunratty's
Not much of a voice, but great rhythm section and guitar sound.
the music played is absolutely great. the singers voice kinda ruined it for me. otherwise great cover
