Eluveitie aus der Schweiz sind auf vielen Ebenen ein Phänomen. So sind sie unter anderem die erste Band, die in ihrer Musik melodischen Death Metal mit keltischer Folkmusik verbindet.
Und das machen sie auf mittlerweile sechs Alben meisterhaft - hier trifft die Double Bass Drum auf die Drehleier und die Tin Whistle auf brutal groovende E-Gitarrenriffs. Das Erstaunliche an dieser Mischung: Sie klingt bei Eluveitie völlig selbstverständlich.
Chrigel Glanzmann gründet die Band 2002 in Winterthur zunächst als reines Studioprojekt. Der Bandname entstammt einer Inschrift auf einer antiken Tonscherbe aus dem italienischen Mantua, auf der das etruskische Wort "eluveitie" zu lesen ist, was die Entsprechung des keltischen Wortes "Helvetios", also "der Helvetier", ist. Die Texte der Band handeln vom keltischen Stamm der Helvetier und sind teilweise in helvetischem Gallisch verfasst. Wer nun denkt "Achtung, Nerd-Alarm!", der liegt völlig falsch, denn die Band kommt von Anfang an so gut an, dass Chrigel und seine Mitstreiter auch live performen wollen.
Mit teilweise neun Musikern auf der Bühne und Instrumenten wie Sackpfeife, diversen Whistles, Geige, Drehleier usw. erobern Eluveitie die Pagan Metal-Welt. 2010 gewinnt die Band den Metal Hammer Award als Aufsteiger des Jahres beim Wacken Festival, und mit ihrem 2014er-Werk "Origins" entern die Musiker und Musikerinnen um Frontmann Chrigel sogar die Spitze der schweizerischen Albumcharts. Im selben Jahr gewinnen sie als erste Metalband den Swiss Music Award als bester Live-Act. Eluveitie sind trotz zahlreicher interner Krisen und Besetzungswechsel nach wie vor Kritikerlieblinge und eine sehr beliebte Liveband.

Considering I didn't know Eluveitie existed until early last year shortly before Ategnatos released. I have to say they've gone from incredible discovery by accident, to probably my favourite active band by miles. Such an incredible group of musicians. 🤘

@@millersj Yes you can put some mics on the sides and send it to the public loudspeakers and returns, but the problem here is that everything on the stage is extremely loud because... it's Metal you know :) So the more noise level is high on the stage the more it's difficult to balance everything for the sounds engineers. That's on of the reason they all have in-ears returns btw.
@@millersj it's possible only with piezo pickups or you will amplify the whole stage from mics

Actually I'd be grateful to mix them. At least there is something interesting and challenging to do plus they have decent gear and play at decent venues. This kind of band is only a nightmare with shit gear in small clubs. But Eluvetie? I'd love to work for them!
Too bad camera crew completely ignored Michalina on the tremulo part during Deathwalker and in many other occasions. She does something great and she deserves more visibility.

Agree! Also worship and thousandfold! The songs that the hurdy gurdy riffs take bigger part of the songs! The camera should film more of Micha! Will also say Fabi give me goose bumps everytime she open her mouth. What a Lady!

I can't describe Fabienne Erni's beauty. She has great voice and that black dress looks great on her. Definitely adds huge value to band.
She's also very tiny, I saw them live and she's way more petite in real life than she looks in the videos, she's too adorable ❤😇
She also goes NEXT LEVEL in Artio. She's so good, she gets her own acapella solo as part of the show and still is able to deliver the same amount of intensity as the other songs
I saw them in Worcester Ma in late 19 it is the last concert I saw before the corona virus shut everything down. How does a band mix brutal death metal and Celtic folk AND MAKE IT WORK! They do it spectacularly. The show was pure magic! They sang call of the mountains in German when in the US and here in Germany they're singing in English.

you should listen to actual brutal death metal before calling eluveitie that. they are melodic death metal with folk elements. Brutal death metal is way way way more brutal

Goddamn, I love this band. Their songs make a primal force inside you want to tear itself out. Saw them live in Phoenix and them by far are the best band I have seen live. Keep it up, the goosebumps they cause just shows how natural and real they are about their art and music.

I've seen Eluveitie more than 20 times in the last 15 years. This is the most soulless performance I've ever seen. But I'm one of those who remember the fruit salad shows with the real folk twins and who remember that imon coimo elvetie. Chrigel, wenn Du Leit an Boad hoist wo's net fühle, lass bleim.
