Proud of the male cub for stepping up first to hold off the hyena so his mom and sisters could eat! Also proud of the all the cubs for working together so that Mama Cheetah could have more time to dine. This cheetah family will survive💪🏼

Have to be fast to catch that type of prey. Can’t fight. A 200lb man significantly outweighs a cheetah and can overpower one, let alone a large herbivore or other carnivore.
@@rickm6076 I was simply admiring it's land speed...nothing else. I know how small they are lol By "can't fight" you mean they aren't large. They fight exactly like bigger cats. I agree they can be beaten by a large man which is impressive enough, but it would be a very rare occasion. It would be too unorthodox to fight something that big with that kind of fast twitch and reflex. Generally speaking, a cheetah would tear a man to shreds.
She might be a veteran but that sprint for the kill was breathtaking!

The cheetah cub is so-o cute; protecting his mom and sibs while they eat ! He's so young, yet noble; hunching himself up, lowering his head, and locking eyes on his hyena foe.
He slowly, and menacingly advances, so far, so good ("hey, everybody, look at me !"), then he *trips on his tail !* Still, he remains locked in. Great stuff. Good work, little fella.

It’s the opposite, hyenas hunt more than scavenge, and the lions are the ones who steal the hyena’s kills more than they hunt.

This is like a teenager defending his mother and siblings from a threat, very brave. Glad the family got enough to eat and the cub was able to hold the hyena off for a long enough time before the scavengers got their fill. Hope animals are able to thrive over the coming years. It was adorable when the cub tried intimidating the hyena xd but he did his job well. Good work and the momma ran fast. Like really really fast. The camera had a hard time keeping up.

@@milxstka The mom was exhausted after chasing down the gazelle. And she still hadn't eaten. Even if she was stronger, at that moment was in a weakened state. So the son stepped up. If the hyena sensed any weakness from the cheetah trying to intimidate it, it would hav bulldozed them immediately and stolen the kill. It was better for the mom to recover and eat while she could and let her cubs - who had already eaten and not lost their energy in a chase - protect their kill.
If you're referring to humans on average a 15+ year old teenage human male is typically stronger than their mother due to sexual dimorphism.

Can we just talk about how the mother raised 3 cubs to near adulthood?? its rare that all cubs of the litter survive until adulthood due to predators, that is one good mother.

Beautiful cats. Surprising to see a kitten so young still buying time for it's siblings & mama to eat. From the look of what was left, the cats managed to claim the lion's share of that kill.
I could listen to his narration all day. The love respect and admiration he has for those beautiful creatures is clearly evident.

I like that the narration wasn't about school and degrees rather based on life. The way he expressed the storyline came from a place of tradition and storytelling than biology studies. Awesome.
@Nue View You can say that 'fear', 'happiness', 'anger', 'love' (fraternal, maternal and similiar, not romantic, that's another beast altogheter ) are the most primal emotions have and are completely provided by our animalistic side, and the closest of a instict that you can see in a Modern Human. So I don't see whats wrong to define an animal instincts in the prism of instincts that we know.
Also, there are a number of Primates, Ceteceans, felines (domestic cats included) and canine of which have been proved to have a partial or even complete concept of self. This is been proved over and over again in ethology studies.
Now, the framework that trigger these emotions in humans, yes, you can argue that it is partialy a social construction.

We're more similar to animals than you think and emotions are probably the biggest commonality besides physical functions. And between humans we're even MORE similar emotionally in varying makeups

Im 41 yrs old, been watching videos like this since I was a kid and finally I get to see a local doing the narration and its a beautiful thing to see! this guy did a fantastic job! hope this marks a turning point and we see this become a trend that catches on.

In 1998 I was in South Africa and had the good fortune to observe a pack of cheetahs feeding on a zebra at Pilansburgh game reserve. They are truly amazing.

I think male hyena's life is much worse than cheetah. They have a really sucks hierarchy, you can search and watch it in the youtube like "hyena hierarchy"
@@onursahin8943 Hyena society is like Amazons (not the Wonder Woman version, the original mythology). The hierarchy starts with Top female and then after ALL females then top male all the way down to lowest ranked male.
Get this man a documentary channel, absolutely amazing short documentary, very well narrated, and such an amazing video, what an amazing film team.
Having the Cheetah's story narrated by this guy just makes it so much more riveting he is feeling every emotion of the group and his skill at putting it into a narration is fantastic.

That cheetah going full sprint was the first time a video has truly portrayed how fast these amazing animals are.
If you haven't watched this series, it's very good. You can find it on Discovery+ and they switch between three different people: this lovely native man who was born and raised there in the Maasai-Mara, an english zoologist who has been studying the Maasai-Mara's wildlife for like 40 years, and his wife who has been studying with him and is a photographer. They all have a connection to the land and it's really refreshing to see the passion they have in their work. The married couple has been following the big cats of the Maasai-Mara to see each generation grow and make their own story. They know who's related to who and the personalities of each cat. And for their co-host, Jackson who you see in this video. He's so in touch with the land and the animals and is so proud of his heritage that- agh it's just so nice to watch.

That was amazing! Leaves me in awe of how incredibly fast that mother cheetah was. She didn't hit 0-60 in three seconds, but after a few seconds she kicked it into afterburner. Damn that was sweet. It would be cool to actually be able to radar a cheetah in the wild running after prey or maybe be able to use the footage to calculate the speed the mother cheetah hit. Man that was amazing when she went for what I assume is top speed. I remember reading about the speed of a cheetah in the 80's and the top speed being 70mph. Then I was watching some other show, I don't think it was a documentary, I remember the talk in that show was that a cheetah's top speed was more like 40mph. The people hosting it were basing it off a cheetah following behind a truck. I didn't think about it then, but that was kind of a stupid way to measure a cheetah's top speed. A cheetah in the wild, that needs is hungry, becomes pumped full of adrenaline and will be ready to kick in the afterburner to catch prey. I don't think anyone can get a cheetah to run at full speed just for the heck of it. A cheetah knows that an explosive chase to catch prey usually ends in exhaustion. A cheetah literally pushes itself almost to the point of overheating its brain during a chase. Not to mention the energy that is used during a chase. During the chase when a cheetah hits full speed, its heart rate hits 220bpm, its blood volume is circulated through its body once every 20 seconds and as mentioned the muscles used to propel the cheetah produce an enormous amount of heat. I can't remember how many respirations per minute a cheetah running at full speed max's out at. It is also non sense when people claim that a cheetah has no stamina. A cheetah can easily hit a 40mph stride and keep it up for quite a while which is enough to out run most of the other predators. Cheetahs contrary to other big cats, have enlarged lungs, heart, liver and adrenal glands. It should be a hint with the enlarged lungs and heart that a cheetah doesn't suffer from exhaustion the way a lion or a cat more closely related to the cheetah, a cougar, does. These cats just don't have lung capacity or heart size. All the other animals which are considered to have good stamina, like wolves, African wild dogs and hyenas for instance are not running at 60 to 70 mph. Anyway, I digress.

Usually I feel bad for the prey when it gets caught by a lion or another predator but watching that cheetah in action man... I was rooting for her all the way! What a athletic creature we witnessed
