Great video! In regards to your observations on the Tanger Outlets, casino goers are a nocturnal animal, so you would have noted more activity later in the day. (that's also why the virtual reality exhibits outside the mall weren't open yet, they get manned later in the day). But that said, the mall is definitely NOT what it used to be in terms of overall traffic. And I think it simply correlates to the overall health of the casino. Due to the after effects of the pandemic, along with the new casinos that opened in Springfield, MA and Boston, MA, Foxwoods is just a good deal less busy overall these days compared to 5+ years ago

Great tour of the Mall, i have been to Foxwoods a couple of times but never knew there was a mall there... Ground for this mall was supposed to break around September of 2012, but they broke ground about one year later, in 2013. So delayed the opening. I think they opened in may of 2015. There's a lot of nice stores in there, the mall closes earlier during the week. Has later hours on the weekend.

At the end you are in the formerMGM Grand hotel and casino, opened in 2008. When they pulled out 5 years later, it was renamed The Fox Tower. Juniors restaurant is down at the end, they used to close at 10 pm, recently they close at 2pm. Juniors kiosk was a 24/7 operation, not anymore. Grand Effects was also a 24 hour operation, closes around 10pm now. The covid 19 really did a number on this casino property.

  • @scottchamberlain5594

The last casino is the former MGM, when they had a franchise there, before moving over the line into Springfield. The two casinos were a much bigger deal, before it became so you couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting a gaming opportunity. The hotel is the former MGM, and is newer and nicer than the Foxwood properties.

In terms of closed stores, I believe the only ones I could remember that did close down was North Face, Guess Who, and probably some other clothing stores I'm forgetting, but most of the empty lots in the mall have always been empty, like, no stores have ever been in those lots since the day they've opened, but there are some new stores that did open there, I believe Smash Avenue and that Escape Room are new, and also a new restaurant is opening there too, but besides that, not much has really been going on with that mall. But also as a fun fact, at Foxwoods, they are planning to open a Great Wolf Lodge sometime in 2025! So that's pretty cool I guess.

Great variation of a mall/casino. I’m not a fan of gambling but if the mall benefits from traffic visiting for the casino and other events, then all good. Another example of an older mall/casino combo is down in Greensburg PA. A casino went into one of the anchor locations for the Westmoreland Mall. I haven’t been to that mall since the casino went in, I’m curious how that combo is doing.

Foxwoods is an extremely interesting and controversial place to say the least. I wouldn’t be surprised if your video is mysteriously taken down for reasons that I’ll never be made clear. I spent five years working at that outlet mall in a time during my life that was very much in limbo. I grew up in nearby Rhode Island and would frequent Foxwoods for the occasional hotel party or gambling excursion, and was always tremendously curious about this place. It’s history by all accounts is very mysterious. This video had a almost hallucinogenic feel to it for me in the sense that I spent so much time just wandering throughout these hallways and huge empty Soulless Spaces wondering what I was doing with my life before I got out and moved to New York City to open my own business. I’ll always be fascinated about this place though.
Side not. Foxwoods is so good at disguising it that there are huge chunks of this video where you are unknowingly walking by what used to be additional storefront space. Once you hit the casino, I would say there’s probably an estimated 15 to 20 former stores that used to be a long those walls. The way this place shape shifts is unlike any project I’ve ever seen. Believe it or not, there are several parts of the casino not shown in this video

Enjoyable video! The reason this outlet mall has 3 levels is because of the change of elevation between the Fox Tower casino and the Grand Pequot casino. There’s another connecting corridor between the two casinos that has a very long escalator to traverse that change of elevation.

Not terribly usual in Vegas to have a shopping mall in the casino, usually at one of the entrances. In Vegas they tend to be mostly high end stores where few can afford the merchandise. As I walk through them, there seems to be few shoppers, but a guess a few sales a day pays the rent. Most casinos elsewhere usually tend to have food courts, and some retail, but not organized into a mall like Foxwoods. I have read where more malls need a casino to keep people coming, so here is an example of one. I tend to go to the casino, loose my budgeted amount of money and leave, in no mood to shop. Tanger Outlets is a national mall operator.

I live in the area, and have been here a half dozen times. This is very much more modeled to be a competition to the Clinton Factory Outlets, an outdoor shopping plaza style of mall, rather than a competition to something like Crystal Mall in Waterford or Providence Place Mall. The foot traffic you're seeing, its very much the same kind of foot traffic I've seen whenever I've been there. I've always wondered, with this kind of foot traffic, or even if they had triple the amount, how the stores can afford to stay open. That said, I think Foxwoods charges them much less rent than the equivalent storefront in a traditional mall, as the mall is a secondary attraction, with the casino being the primary draw. Very similar to the small mall at Mohegan Sun.
The structure of the mall is actually almost a V in shape, as it was built long after the existing two sides of the casino were built. They built it in the V shape out in front of the casino, elevated above ground so driving to the valet garages were possible, with foot approaches from the two sides of the casino. The "main" casino, where Guy Fieri's is, is a higher elevation than Fox Tower, where the video started.
For your comment about Bath And Body Works proving it to be a mall, you might have a point there. Almost every storefront in this mall was a glass window and glass door, with the exception of a couple small places like Johnny Rockets. At 8:45, where the Hagen Dazs is, used to be a Pinkberry when Tanger first opened.

@@fleabittenadventures Westbrook is an outdoor outlet mall, just like Clinton Crossing, a few exits off I95 south of it. Both outlet centers are still there, but Westbrook, last few years is getting like a ghost town. Clinton gets more foot traffic. Neither of them are as busy as they were about 5 years ago, definitely different from 10 yrs ago. The only connection to the Foxwood’s casino and Westbrook is that they are both Tanger Outlets. Clinton is another entity. Mohegan Sun Casino is definitely a whole different thing…not a standard mall inside. They have a center promenade between the two sides of casino, also where you can go upstairs to enter the very nice hotel from indoors. It is two levels, as someone here said, but upstairs level is all various restaurants only and the hotel. Downstairs has mostly casino owned stores not national brands, more like little boutique stores. Just a few national brands, Sephora, Chicos, Le Crueset. Also many first class, various restaurants downstairs. Michael Jordan’s Steak House, Tuscany, Ballo and Tao are the best. Pricey, but excellent. They have some good more casual and average priced restaurants too. Mohegan Sun is a nice casino, hotel, arena, and still thriving with business. As for Foxwoods, I’ve only been to that mall during Christmas when we needed to get a few things at specific stores for some people, pre-pandemic. (I’m not a big mall shopper otherwise) It was always relatively less bustling than bigger, standard malls. At Christmas, with all the markdowns and sales, they were practically giving things away. Anyhoo, that’s my “2 cents” just fyi. Thanks for your videos!

It's also not particularly interesting to walk through. It looks very sterile which you alluded to in your video. And for naming itself an Outlet mall, it's not very outlet pricing.
Mohegan Sun's shopping area should have been a lesson for Foxwoods. Mohegan Sun's at least has interesting art as you walk through it and the retail area doesn't take up a lot of space. It used to have a really cool store with a massive aquarium. I was sad when that closed.

Still better than Mohegan, which has practically nothing for shopping anymore.

Borderline dead mall, poorly designed mall, like walking a tunnel from one end to the other with no escape is how I look at this outlet mall.

Not only is the casino almost dead those stores have two feet in the grave. My prognosis is that within 10 years it’ll be nothing but a memory up there, just like the dogs & Jai Alai. They blast the music to hush the silence😂 In closing, such a depressing place.

This was actually my first time at a casino. I have no interest in losing money gambling, but I would think that gambling would be a big draw no matter what.

@@fleabittenadventuresIf you ever do want to try gambling I would recommend Baccarat. It's brain dead simple to play and the casino only has an edge of about 1.5 percent. And only bring 10x your max bet.

Keep on shopping Amazon and getting those vans delivering to the doorstep paying shipping. No wonder the population is overweight.
