In my research for a wargame of the Battle of Kolwezi, 1978 it turns out the Zaire Army had a number of AML60's previously owned by the Belgian Army. When the FNLZ attacked Kolwezi the army left behind unserviceable vehicles, however the insugents got three to work and were using them against the 2iem REP. The REP anti tank sections disabled 2 of them and the third retreated very quickly.
We still used these when I was in 1ere REC in the early 80s. The 60 was fun to drive, but the 90 was top heavy if you tried WRC tactics and had a habit of flipping over if you fired the gun at right angles to the hull. Our squadron mainly used AMX10s but AMLs were better for quick reccies.

There used to be an Argentine trophy one at Middle Wallop!

Do you know if the capture AML60'S from Kolwezi were brought back to France? They would have made great trophies for the 2 iem REP.

The portuguese AML 60 all are modified, during the late 80, with a Opel 1.9cc gasoline engine.
