- In this video, I give you a list of the most popular hymns for the joyful season of Christmas. The organ parts are played by me, and the majority of choirs are all choirs with whom I've worked over many years.

They certainly will echo through ears n hearts of future carol lovers.
Jesus Christ the same, yesterday and today and tomorrow. Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.
They have already endured. But they will keep enduring. Sadly so will many of the more modern ones. I don't think White Christmas is going anywhere. Unless they prove that it is racist or something.

Absolutely. I am not even actively religious, but this is the only music that means Christmas to me. The other stuff means crowded stores and commercialism and too many tacky decorations. This is powerful stuff that makes me feel like there really is something larger, something really special going on.
No you're right. The birth of our Savior is the reason for the season
ALL of those songs are meaningful. They ALL bring JOY. Your average kid isn't going to understand In the Bleak Midwinter, or The Angel Gabriel. They ARE going to understand about dancing snowmen and flying reindeer and jingling sleigh bells.
And as Carols existed LONG before 'Christmas' they don't have to have 'meaning'. They can just be about celebrating life during the dark times by being joyful - no matter the subject matter.
So maybe don't be such a grinch about the 'festive season' - which predates Christianity. And I say that as a Christian who loves church music and was a chorister, soloist, choir leader, and choral singer in cathedrals and high churches - and still loves Frosty the Snowman and The Christmas Song!
So divine Carol songs.. Missing those wonderful Christmas days... Come Jesus.. Come to reign in the hearts of the people you gained with the price of your precious blood..
We must retake our Western nations for the Glory of Christ! Those wonderful Christmas days can come again!

Hi, I certainly understand your feelings. The world is in one hell of a mess and getting worse at an alarming rate. However God gave us humans the right to make our own decisions even stupid ones and evil ones like myself and possibly you too. Jesus clearly said that things would get bad for the world before He returned but he would return before everything was totally stuffed up. Excuse the non biblical language. If you don't believe in Jesus Christ then i quite understand your sentiments. Regards and have a good one.

It is very reassuring to know there are still many of us who remember and cherish nostalgically the Christmas of these real faith deepening Christmas carols of the child Jesus in a manger! Finally! Finally someone has put out a collection of the carols I remember as a chorister, with the descants I remember, the tunes and arrangements, total perfection, having to listen to it twice! And the angel at the start, well, what else can one want ?

I wish there was a way for me to track how many times I have listened to some of these songs on repeat.

Pure essence of choir singing..a true ambience of carol singing as I remember as a child.
Brings tears of past Christmas when our times were a great deal nicer to bear n enjoy within the family life. ..all robins singing in the holly bushes ,snow on the ground and walking back home from school on a winters day near Christmas time,and Sunday school days.
Memories that awake when I hear this singing..and again I can relive it .
Rejoice to our saviour..and long live the blessings of Christianity and carol singing forever..long after we are no longer down on Gods beautiful earth.

Brings a lot of fond memories flooding back as a child when we would walk to midnight mass and sing these beautiful carols and hymes.
in those days we had white christmasses which made it extra special as well.
I no longer live in the uk but i can recieve bbc and love to watch midnight mass.
The old traditional Christmas songs bring back the memory of my childhood loving attending Sunday school and singing in church.
We don’t get snow anymore at Christmas 😔

I don't even consider myself Christian but this is the only Christmas music for me. The holiday is what it is, you can't change that. And I am closer to being a Christian this time of year than any other. I feel like there is something really special and powerful happening this season the year, and the music brings it out.
@justforever96 you can become a Christian if you desire and the words of these Christmas songs will live in your heart as you own them. Receive the unconditional love of Jesus the Christ turning away from sin and be connected in a personal relationship being forgiven having eternal life, heaven and a blessed life full of joy always not just at Christmas.

I have also just lost a dear friend,and ex partner,along with one at beginning of the year,and my beloved dog Toby in the summer,it will be a very different Christmas this year...I hold on to the faith I will be with them all again one day.
I have found this a year after you and have just read your comment from one year ago. I hope your heart has healed a little since losing your Mum last year and that you find joy this Christmas. I too miss my lovely mum, though I lost her 5 years ago now,. Time does heal but you never forget the love and fun times.

Oh my! What glorious Christmas music! I came to a conference some 30 years ago in NYC and our group ate lunch at Riverside Church. Never in my life have I been in such a Temple of God! My Lutheran church still plays them. Things are awful, but the church lives on. Digital computer organs not quite the same - but still powerful. Y'all come back! Good number of pipe organs survive in our city; Heed the call!

I am thrilled to hear Christmas carols in that very British tradition of church music - organ accompanying not taking over proceedings, not unduly loud, the organ itself well-balanced in design all the music coming through without component parts in unholy competition, and oh, the choir in perfect blend. I just stumbled upon this, this lovely very proper, perfect and traditional Ceremony of Carols... the boy choirs and SATB, the grand acoustics, and your sublime organ artistry, kind sir! No, it wasn't in time for 12/25/2022... it's better than that. I can now have it at my fingertips all year. I can have it in the blazing blistering Summer. I can have it in Our often bitter Michigan Winters... You've given me, a total stranger, a gift to last all year. In this: somehow my isolated lonely hermitage melts away, and I'm at a Christmas Eve Service, as a youth, with all the assembled multitudes! God Bless ye, kind sir, and thy kind efforts herein.

When 'A Great and Mighty Wonder' started, I recognized the tune but not the words. It's the same tune as 'Lo, how a rose e'er blooming".

The focus of Christmas is Christ and these hymns most definitely convey the beauty and majesty of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Yea he is altogether lovely...
This man conquered death, 'nay in all these we are more than conquerors through Christ that loved us and gave Himself for us'. 'Sacrifice and offering though wouldest not but obedience'.

Thank you for this lovely selection of songs, which include my favorites "As With Gladness Men of Old" and "Christians Awake, Salute the Happy Morn." Sweet memories of falling snow as me and my kid brother played outside of our home in the Bronx years ago. Evrery once in awhile, I would stop my activity and look up to catch my mom at the window sweetly looking out at us. Beautiful memories can last us a lifetime. The sadness of choir members being so far apart brings tears to my eyes!
I sang for many years in a choir and in Madrigals and the energy that you feel from the melody and harmony coming together from fellow choir members, is magical electrifying and needed to feel the notes and pitch of each song.
I still appreciate the wonderful effort. May His message live for ever in our hearts and minds.
Ethereal voices, as good as many young boys, esp in the descants. As a RC child I sang many of these in Latin at St George’s Cathedral, Southwark. Alas in CE churches we are not allowed to sing, even behind our masks!

Come and try shape note singing sometime, if you like that kind of energy. It is probably the most intense kind of choral music for participants, no audience, we sing full volume, and in a square facing each other so all the sound concentrates in the center. It is awesome.
