    Have to agree. Aeroplane Heaven are really putting out some wonderful aircraft and are right on the ball with patches and updates. I hear they may be planning a four engine warbird aircraft release soon? Their Spitfire is the aircraft I fly most often, will be purchasing this honey today. Great review as always.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations

      They certainly seem to be heading in a positive direction overall Terry. Their systems modelling can be a bit hit and miss, but I don’t mind that too much, as I don’t think they’re pretending to offer study level. Sounds seem to be their weak point currently, so hopefully they get a handle on those. As you say though, they’ve been putting out some nice aircraft and one of the reasons I like them as a developer, is whilst their products might not be the most finely-tuned in some regards, they produce a lot of aircraft that other devs would never touch (the kind of aircraft I like) - so we get a lot more variety in the sim.
      I saw mention of a Lancaster just the other day! Needless to say, I’m looking forward to that one!! ; )

    I'm not sure about that stall warning. It reminds me of the school lunch bell (perhaps giving away my age).
    The P51 looks great though. If I hadn't just bought the F3F I'd have got this. I dare say the Mustang seems finished to a higher standard.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 года назад +1

      Thanks very much Roland!
      Haha, I like a good warning bell myself - much nicer than a modern computerised warning. I’m not sure whether it’s accurate to the aircraft or not though. If memory serves me correctly, the P-51 (at least in DCS) did have a bell like this, but it was to warn you when someone was on your tail (it had some sort of basic aft-facing radar system).
      Yeah, I was quite surprised AH put out two products in such quick succession. Without a doubt the P-51 is by far the better of the two, but I still think the little Grumman has its own charm. . . Hopefully AH’s future releases will all be done to this same standard (to be fair I thought the F3-F showed refinement in some areas over their previous efforts also).

    Another excellent review :-). For some reason i cant do military aircraft in MSFS. I think i see DCS and MSFS as two seperate entities - one for military flight and the other for civilian. But that, I appreciate, is purely based on my own subjectivity and biases. Great looking aircraft though for those that buy it and wish to fly it :-) . AH's models always look great outside but the shortcomings in systems and internal fidelity is never worth the time they spent polishing the outside. Still generally disappointed by their approach and always wish the systems were top tier.
    I also think it would be interesting to know at the start of the refiews if you paid for the product or were given one to review.
    Thank you as always for the great reviews!

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 года назад +6

      Hi Kaiser,
      I know what you mean and it is a shame that they go to such meticulous detail on the external modelling, but that doesn’t necessarily carry through to the entire aircraft (they’d be on to an absolute winner if it did!). I presume they have a passion and skill for recreating these machines visually, but that doesn’t necessarily carry through to the same degree on the systems front etc.
      I take your point re whether or not I paid for the product: More often than not I purchase my own products (as I did here), so as not to muddy the waters. Generally I will only take a freebie, if I know in advance that the product is going to be quality (I’m quite happy to work with Just Flight for example). That being said, the devs that I do work with, know that I’ll be giving an honest opinion either way. When the product has been given to me by the dev, I always try and make mention of it during the video (indeed it’s a legal requirement), but I agree, it would be a good idea to mention it at the start of the video.

    Hi,
    Good review as usual. And as usual, I have to criticize some aspects of the aircraft:
    -Mixture: In real mustang, it should be Automatic similar like in P-38, Corsair etc. when RUN position should be Auto Rich/Lean combined. But I did performance testing and with mixture on RUN, above 15k ft you will start to lose power and speed, above 25-30k ft engine will start to drop rpm and power to the point of almost complete halt. So you have to lean to almost 10% at high altitude. They probably implemented like standard MSFS mixture.
    -fisheye cockpit. Default view is zoomed out and thus produce fisheye effect. I don't know any people who sees the world the same way. Why they decided to set that as default view is beyond me. Yes, you can see more of the cockpit, but it's all distorted. Yes, you can zoom-in the view to look more natural and save the view as custom, but it does not have the exact same FOV like in other aircrafts. Same problem was with G91. This has to go away. Annoying.
    -Sounds: Main source of complains about this aircraft. While it sounds miles better that anemic Asobo's P51, it just can't compare with Flying Iron's Merlin sound. But they finally normalized sound volume with other aircrafts. You were satisfied with sounds, so maybe that's just personal taste. I'm right in the middle, sound could be better for sure.
    -Gauges: Altimeter is weird. Compared to Ctrl Z utility, altitude was off all the time. But I didn't focused on this a lot.
    But all in all, I think this is the best aircraft from AH so far.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 года назад

      Hi Tomas,
      Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks very much for your points. I agree with all of them.
      That’s interesting re the mixture. As you say, I expect it’s just using the sims default mixture coding. I wonder if it’s possible to accurately custom code this?
      The fisheye cockpit, I believe I mentioned during the review (I may have edited it out, don’t remember now). Again I agree. It’s not a huge deal, as of course one can custom zoom, but that does get annoying. It’s particularly noticeable as a TrackIR user and indeed the G-91 has the same issue.
      It’s not that I thought the sounds were perfect - there’s definitely room for improvement, but I thought they were decent enough overall. Sounds always seem to be quite a subjective thing and of course each users sounds equipment will be different also. Further to that, sometimes I have to reduce sound volumes to equalise the audio throughout the videos. Things can therefore sound somewhat different on RUclips vs reality.
      The altimeter is a bit odd and I do wonder why AH would let something like that slide, when they were so meticulous in other areas. . . Hopefully the Mustang gets a couple of patches, as their other products have.
      Again though I agree. Best effort of AH’s to date! I hope the trend continues : )
      Cheers!

    • @bravetoss
      @bravetoss 2 года назад +1

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations Hi, regarding the mixture, it's doable, but probably some custom code is needed. Milviz has done this with corsair, except from take off and high power settings, you just let the mixture on Auto Lean position, practically regardless on altitude. P-38 is also working similarly.

    Something I always wondered; how did they handle icing in WWI and WWII? In the Biggles books they always hid in the clouds but that would certainly iced down their aircrafts? Just a side track question as I saw you flying in clouds and we are prevented to do that in the flight school.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 года назад +1

      Hi Andreas, good question.
      I suppose like a lot of things in WWI aviation, some of it was trial and error / luck etc. I’d imagine hiding in the clouds would have been a bit of a last resort, as it would have been very easy to lose one’s bearings, enter into a spin and lose control. I’m sure they were aware of icing, but perhaps still figuring out its effects etc. Whether or not entering into cloud caused them to ice up, would have depended on the freezing level as well.
      I know certain WWII aircraft had limited de-icing systems and by the period I’m sure they were much more aware of the issues posed and how to avoid them. For the fighters as well, the speed of the aircraft would presumably have helped keep the TAT up and reduce the icing risk.
      Icing can be an issue for sure, but I think the main threat to a non IFR-trained pilot would be disorientation / loss of control.
      Just my take on things though, I’ve never actually read anything on the issue. Again, an interesting thought for sure!

Unsure why would hear the wind, as it is so deafening inside. I had a bone dome on each flight and even then was noisy and as have said before, those poor young lads went all the way to Berlin and back with just a cloth headset on. But then there, I suppose they knew no difference.

      Haha, well once again, you lucky chap! I’m sure that was a complete joy. The wind noise may actually have been a bit of an “error” on my part in hindsight. I think the wind noise was produced by FSRealistic; I should have turned it off before recording, but unfortunately it auto-runs with the sim and I forgot on this occasion.
      I’d never even considered the sheer cacophony of noise those chaps would have endured (potentially for hours on end). Most of us just see these beautiful machines from the outside and marvel at how sonorous they are. . .

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations it was all different in the 80s and 90s than it is today. The closest the public could get to flying in a warbird, was a singular T-6 down at Shoreham, there were no Spitfires, P-51s, Hurricane and Buchon etc like today. So, you had to be part of a display team or work for a warbird company. I was just lucky, but then worked for all that had achieved, commuting most weekends from a little village in Cornwall up to Duxford or North Weald. Sadly experiences such as the Mustang rides didnt come to you, you had to work for them. Good times, good memories.

      Hi HC,
      Firstly, is it the Asobo P-51, or the Aeroplane Heaven P-51 that you’re referring to? This video features the Aeroplane Heaven P-51 and I can’t say that I’ve experienced any such problems with the aircraft. On the other hand, I gather that the Asobo P-51 does indeed currently have a bug, where the engine will die at high MP / RPM settings. . . As it seems the issue with the Asobo P-51 is a bug, I’m afraid (if you are using this version of the aircraft) you’ll probably have to wait on Asobo to fix it.

      I agree that damage modelling would certainly be a great addition Ricardo. It’s always nice to see the consequences of operating the aircraft incorrectly. Personally I tend to take the approach of trying to operate the aircraft within limits, because I enjoy flying it that way, but it’s not quite the same of course - it always adds to the immersion, knowing that the engine *might* let go at any moment.

I’m finding that once I apply power for take off with 6 degrees of right rudder my aircraft starts to turn left after rolling down the runway despite extra rudder input to counter the yaw! • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 года назад +1

      Hi Damo,
      The AH Mustang is certainly a bit different to the DCS version in terms of technique. The best method I found, was to keep in quite a bit of aft pressure on the stick during the early stages of the takeoff roll (around 1/2 deflection). This locks the tail wheel (keeping you straight) and keeps the tail down, you can then just jab the brakes to keep the aircraft straight. After a while you’ll feel the tail wanting to come up and by then you’ll have enough rudder authority to control the aircraft in yaw. Of course using less than full power (if you can get away with it) makes things easier as well. Keeping the tail down was key for me though. I suspect the DCS version is more accurate overall, but I found the AH version manageable.

    Real life 45+ year Airframe & Powerplant mechanic, here. I noticed from the start that the Mustang's prop was in the feathered position. During your start procedure, you did not return the prop to the low pitch position prior to starting the engine. I can tell you that leaving the prop in the feathered position would destroy the engine upon startup. It would precipitate a catastrophic engine failure. As you didn't change the prop pitch, the program must have done it in a hidden manner. Odd. If one did that in real life, the engine would tear itself right out of the mounts, or the prop reduction gearbox would instantly explode. IT's such a crucial item, I'm quite surprised, given all the other attention to detail, that this simple, yet critical item would be missed. Only turbo prop-powered aircraft start with the props in the feathered position. You can't do that with a radial or inline engine.

    That really is a beautiful model and I'm really quite tempted. Too many bloody things I want to buy though and too little money! Bit disappointing that the temps aren't really modelled to any realistic degree. I quite like having to manage the temps in some of the other warbirds for the sim. Sounds sound okay to me, definitely an improvement over their earlier stuff but still not great to my tinnitus riddled ears, could be gruntier. Nice airfield choice as well! I used their earlier FSX freeware version of it and tried out an earlier version of the MSFS port over but it looks like they've really added a lot more to it recently so I might have to check it out again.

      Yes the model is rather stunning - always has been AH’s forte though hasn’t it. The temps issues (or lack thereof haha) were a little disappointing, but not surprising. At least these days the temps sit roughly where they should, unlike some of their older stuff.
      I thought the sounds were ok when I flew it in the video. I must admit I’ve grown to like them less and less actually. Too much wind noise internally and they do sound a bit artificial externally. Some people have been modding in the Asobo Mustang sounds, or even the FlyingIron Spit sounds - I think I might look to do the same.

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations The month or two after Xmas is always a fun time for my bank balance.
      I also saw people replacing the sounds for this, I think you end up with some of the switches no longer having sounds but I think that's a sacrifice worth making! Some have also replaced the F3F sounds but there's not really anything suitable to replace them with. The Corsair was mentioned but that had an engine over twice as powerful. The Stearman was also mentioned as a possible sound donor but the engine on that is a fair bit less powerful and also a fixed pitch prop. Neither option really authentic there so I'll leave it for now.
      I do like these old heritage fields in the sim when they have the old planes modelled. Orbx's Old Warden was pretty nice to fly around in the older sims. There's a freeware mod of it for MSFS but last time I looked the museum planes were some pretty low quality models. The Golden Age Simulations guys also had a few vintage airfields for FSX/P3D which were good fun. And the mother of them all was that FS9 overhaul, Golden Wings, which replaced all the autogen and AI traffic both land and air with 1930s equivalents and a few cities were edited to look more like they did in the olden days. A fair few vintage airports were developed for that too. Had a lot of fun with that back in the day.
      In other news: Ant of Tiger Moth fame had released an MSFS version of one of his ultralights. Not really interested in the ultralight but I hope this means that the Tiger Moth will be coming to MSFS someday. One of my favourite planes in the older sims so I'll be keeping an eye out.

      Hi Andrew,
      Apologies for the slow reply, just catching up on my comments now.
      Still having a tough time with it, or have you managed to get things figured out? The AH P-51 is a tricky little beast to get airborne; the techniques I highlighted in my video are really the best way I found of doing things. In summary:
      - don't use full power unless you have to.
      - you will need to use braking initially to keep the aircraft straight.
      - Use almost full backstick initially during the takeoff. You want to keep the tailwheel on the ground to keep directional control.
      - Once you feel the tail wanting to come up, you should then have enough rudder authority to help keep the aircraft straight.
      - You can almost fly the aircraft off the ground in the 3-point attitude.
      I've not sure how true to life the above behavior is; going off the excellent DCS Mustang, I think the AH version is overly difficult, but hopefully those techniques will get you pointed in the right direction - literally haha.

I only have an hour or so in the Asobo Mustang (just did a few touch and go’s) so I can’t comment too much on the differences between the two, but I think it would be fair to say that the AH version is the significantly better aircraft. Despite some of its “quirky” systems modelling, it still feels more fleshed out and realistic to operate I would say. I find the flight model to be a significant improvement over the Asobo version also.

      Hi Michael,
      I have spent quite a bit of time in the DCS P-51, albeit some time ago. Unfortunately, whilst the Aeroplane Heaven P-51 is a nice effort, the DCS version is still lightyears ahead.
      Visually: The AH version has an advantage externally, I think the DCS version looks a little crisper and cleaner internally.
      Sounds: DCS version wins hands down.
      Systems: Again the DCS version is the clear winner. Although the AH version covers most of the basics, the heating and cooling modelling of the DCS version is vastly superior (and the systems depth of the DCS Mustang is much greater).
      Flight model: Again DCS wins. The AH version flies nicely enough, it is perhaps a touch overpowered, but the DCS version is better throughout the entirety of the flight envelope.
      The Aeroplane Heaven version of the Mustang is far from being on a par with the DCS variant, nonetheless it’s enjoyable and good fun to cruise around in. Obviously where it really shines, is that in MSFS you can take it anywhere in the world!
      I hope that helps clarify things a bit. All the best! : )

For some reason I waited way too long to try DCS and was blown away by how well the planes fly and the actual effort you have to put in to manage the engine and systems. Its good to know MSFS is trying though. I will give it to Aeroplane heaven for the look especially the exterior but still might hold off on getting it since I already have the p51 in DCS.

      DCS is *the* best flight sim in many regards. The only thing that sadly really holds it back (for me at least) is the dated, fairly expensive and restrictive map selection. MSFS has many faults, but I love being able to go anywhere, any time and genuinely explore. DCS’s world works absolutely fine for combat etc, but it’s not so great for pure flying.
      Either way though, I would probably stick with the DCS P-51 yes, it’s a much more in-depth recreation of the aircraft overall.
      Happy flying! : )

I hope it gets developed further, though I haven't seen any "game-changing" updates to the AH Spitfire since it's release (although they did patch up many of the bugs in fairness). Realistically the aircraft needs a few tweaks to the flight model and a new soundest and it'd be a very solid offering.

    Late to the party, but as always great review and flight!
    Got this bird myself the other day, but - and I am fully aware it might be my own faults - I can not for the love of life get consistent starts with this mean machine. Meaning, even when I trim the rudder to 6% and trim the nose down by 2% as AH says in their manual, the plane quite often slides allover the place once I reach a certain speed. It's quite frustrating tbh, I do fly quite a lot of planes - and pretty successfully so - but AH's P-51 gives me a headache.
    Watched some videos on getting this bird into the air, read tutorials and blogs, but like I said: I find it rather inconsistent how this P-51 acts. Got one from the reno air pack, and it's rather easy to get that one airborne in comparison.
    Any tips for ol' me?

      Hi ES,
      Thanks very much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
      The AH P-51 is indeed a bit of a challenge to get airborne in a civilised fashion haha, too much so perhaps.
      The techniques I somewhat outlined in this video, are really the best way I found of controlling the Mustang during the takeoff. The primary tricks are full backstick initially, only easing up once you feel the tail wanting to lift and try to avoid using full power for the takeoff where you can (to make directional control easier in general). Full backstick should help keep the aircraft pretty straight and by the time the tail wants to lift, you can ease forward and should then have enough rudder authority to help keep the aircraft straight. You almost want to fly the aircraft off in the 3-point attitude.
      I've no idea how accurate the above technique is vs the real world (not very I suspect), but as you can see from the video, it is workable.
      I hope that helps a little. Best of luck! : )

    I've been waiting for a "worthy" P-51D for FS 2020. The Reno air race ones are a joke. A2A's accusim P-51D was my FSX top pick. This does hit all the marks with external modeling, but sustainable 5k per min climb at 240 mph??? That's 60 mph straight up at 240 mph with no speed bleed off as you blast through thinner air??? Ahhhh...no. I hope they tighten up both the systems modeling and most important, work towards making the plane fly closer to the real deal.
    On another note. What instant replay app are you using, as the Asobo added one is not intuitive and is made more for video editors than quick and simple instant replays for general users? 2. Are you using Track IR for your head tracking? It would be hard to film your videos using a VR headset.
    Overall, another great review. As always, extremely thorough. I'll get this one as any true warbird junkie MUST have a P-51 in their stable. And I'm a warbird junkie's junkie. lol This is the only released P-51D to date worth having. That might change if Milviz, Flyingiron or A2A puts one up, however. Thanks for your work on this. It was enough to convince me it's worth buying.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 года назад

      I figured the climb rate was rather "impressive" haha, but I didn't really get the opportunity to assess things there "on the fly", so I hoped demonstrating it would be enough for anyone in the know. The AH rendition certainly isn't perfect, but I do enjoy the aircraft and without a doubt it's a better option than Asobo's offering. A2A's lineup are the warbirds we're all waiting for, but I guess we'll be waiting for some time yet. . .
      For my replays I use "Flight Recorder". A great freeware tool, very simple to use. I've been using it for a while now and was considering ditching it for the sim's native recorder, but I took one looks at Asobo's interface and went straight back to what I knew haha:
      flightsim.to/file/8163/flight-recorder
      For head-tracking I use TrackIR yes.
      I hope you're getting some enjoyment out of the P-51? It's probably not scratching that A2A itch, but I've been having some fun with it nonetheless. I have grown to like the sounds less and less I must admit; I see some have been switching them out with the Asobo P-51 sounds or even FlyingIron's Spit sounds, I think I might look to do the same (though hopefully AH will address them in the future). Speaking of FlyingIron, I see they're now working on a Hellcat! : O
      All the best : )

    • @5dmkiii60
      @5dmkiii60 2 года назад +1

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations Oh yeah, I'm very much enjoying this AH P-51. It flies well, very precise. It has an odd quirk, however. If I fly it first, it changes my control device's mapping for any plane I fly after it. I have to close out FS, reload it in order for my mapping to work like it was before flying the P-51. No idea what's causing that.
      The aircraft seems to have a problem above 20k alt, where it just gets gutless even with the supercharger set to auto. You still show getting 45-50 inches MP, but the plane just doesn't want to climb anymore. It's indicating you have the MP you need, but it turns into a VW bug trying to pull a trailer up a steep hill. hahah That's wrong. The P-51 was an EXCEPTIONAL high altitude fighter with the Merlin in it. It did most of it's fighting in the 30K realm. AH needs to take a look at that, too.
      Still, overall, looks pretty flying, flies well and will "fill the spot" until A2A drops one. And I've seen the design graphics modeling of the Hellcat as Alex at Fyingiron..who does all the graphics / model design emailed me the pics of where the F6F is currently at development wise. It's spot on perfect. Can't wait to get it.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 года назад

      Haha, hadn’t noticed the control mapping issue, but I wonder if it’s not doing the same to me then (I usually start my sim, make my flight and then shut it down again at any rate).
      I wonder if it’s not a mixture issue you’re having in the climb? I only ask, because another viewer mentioned to me that the auto-rich setting doesn’t actually work and the way AH have modelled the mixture, it will still require manual adjustment in the climb. It’s weird that you’re still getting full MP though. . .
      Likewise, all of these warbirds are really just placeholders for me, until A2A do their thing. I’m hoping the glut of Spitfires in MSFS, won’t put them off recreating my favourite sim addon of all time!
      Another viewer just brought the Hellcat to my attention! Another personal favourite of mine (looking forward to the incoming Wildcat as well) and with it being FlyingIron, you already know it’s going to be great. They’ve been kind enough to let me preview their Spit and the P-38 so I’m hoping they’ll let me get my hands on the Hellcat a little bit early as well (points may be deducted, if there’s a lack of RN livery though! : P ).

      Hi Sam,
      I found using quite a bit of back-pressure on the stick (to keep the tailwheel down and locked) during the takeoff run helped a lot. I used about 3/4 full back-stick initially, using brakes to keep the aircraft straight. Once I could feel the aircraft starting to want to fly, I would ease off the back pressure and start using rudder to keep the aircraft straight. With that method, the P-51 was fairly manageable overall I found. Reduced power settings on takeoff helped make things a lot more manageable as well.
      I hope that helps a bit.

In those particular shots the prop was actually only selected to fully-coarse, but it seems as though the modelling is slightly off there, as the prop does indeed look like it’s been feathered. I’m fairly certain that in actuality, the Mustang’s prop cannot be feathered. . . Some prop aircraft (mostly warbirds that I am aware of) are actually started in the fully coarse position, I believe to put less strain on the engines oil system during the start - I’m not actually sure for the Mustang specifically.

    Great review thanks. Do you not think, all these aircraft in MSFS focuss on the pretty graphics modelling first and the engineering/flight model second? I thought, looking at the ASOBO advertising 2 years ago, that it had a top notch physics simulation, regarding lift and drag coefficients? Systems wise, if these don't work as they should, I personally get irritated and feel I'm in a "light" simulation. Ultimately, when Devs put out a warbird that's in DCS, inevitably we who fly DCS are going to compare and contrast.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 года назад

      Thanks David, you’re most welcome!
      Yes, so far I would agree with that statement overall. Currently MSFS does seem to focus on graphical fidelity, as opposed to accurate flight models, systems etc. I had thought by now we would have seen more development of the sims flight modelling, but nearly 18 months in, very little has changed with the sim overall. Currently it is a “lighter” sim than the likes of DCS, it’s possible that will never change (but I hope I’m wrong).
      All this being said, I do feel like MSFS gets an unfair wrap sometimes. It has a long way to go for sure, but it’s already doing some things well. It’s a decent GA / VFR sim already I think; it needs a lot of work though before it’s competing with the likes of X-Plane, DCS et al, in terms of more complex flight modelling.
      To be fair, the DCS Mustang is a bit of gem - most addons don’t come up to quite *that* standard.

It’s a decent addon, but nobody beats A2A, when it comes to making an aircraft feel alive!
      Hope that helps a little bit. All the best! : )

      True Michael; some improved sounds would be a huge boost to the product. DCS generally does sound better than any other sim. It’s not quite as good, but some people have been replacing the AH P-51 sounds, with either the Asobo P-51 sounds, or even the FlyingIron Spit sounds. Not ideal, but an improvement nonetheless.
      Hopefully Aeroplane Heaven will put out some improved sounds for the aircraft in the future though. . .

      I suspect you may well be correct G2G: I don’t have any time with the A2A Mustang, but their Spitfire is my favourite sim addon of all time! Nobody does engine / systems modelling like A2A and they’re more or less at the top of their game when it comes to general immersion also. The DCS Mustang does sound glorious mind you and I’d hazard a guess that the two flight models are broadly on a par with one another?

    It kinda seems like AH is the "Carenado" of warbirds and other funky-cool aircraft. And I don't mean that in the usual demeaning way...
    So it's ~ $35. The two "ultimate" P-51's (A2A & DCS) are $50 ea.
    If you balance out what AH's model does right in MSFS, vs the shortcomings of the other sims, then this doesn't seem like a bad deal at all.
    It just comes down to what one is looking for in an addon. For me, even though the flight dynamics and systems aren't "study level", these beautiful AND flyable models are such a better experience than all the plastic scale models I ever built as a kid, and I've learned a TON more than I ever did back then, too.
    Good enough for me to fly and enjoy these living bits of history, and given the vast list of really interesting models they've built before, i'm looking forward to many of them in MSFS.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 года назад +1

      A very reasonable and down to earth assessment Urgent - far too reasonable for a flight sim enthusiast! : P
      I think that's pretty fair. AH certainly know how to create a beautiful model and I very much like the fact they (at least historically) produce a lot of aircraft nobody else would ever touch - the kind of aircraft I like to fly. For sure they aren't perfect and some people get rather angry about that, but with something like the F3-F for example, if AH didn't produce it, I doubt anyone else ever would. I'd rather have an imperfect piece of history to explore, than nothing at all. Of course I still hope AH take their skills from strength to strength, but their work in MSFS does seem to have generally been improving so far.
      I gather a Lancaster is going to be one of their next offerings - very much looking forward to that! : )

    There is a lot of things wrong with this model, ex. the canopy should not lift at the back when open, it runs on a rail there. The shape of the radiator scoop is wrong , too much integrated with the fuselage. Propeller blades twist the wrong way. And it is way too fast and has bad sound. So no buy for me, will have to be content with the Asobo model for now.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations

      Yep, all very fair observations Sputnik. I’d always be the first to admit that I’m not very good at fishing out the more minor modelling errors (though I should have spotted the prop!). The sounds I agree; I thought they were ok initially, but I’ve grown to like them less and less. Hopefully Aeroplane Heaven will address the sounds, as there’s been consistent feedback that people aren’t happy with them. I don’t know if you follow EMD’s channel, but he’s actually created a mod for the flight model, looking to try that myself at some point.

      Personally I thought the P-51’s sounds were quite an improvement over the F3-F’s, but I seem to be in the minority on that one haha. For sure they would still benefit from some work though and many others seem to feel the same way, so hopefully AH will take that into consideration at a later date. I didn’t realise the P-51 had a blue note, it would certainly be nice to hear that added!

    Has Aeroplane Heaven can't make good aircraft sounds to save their lives. It's a real shame when it comes to aircraft like this that are known for the sound they make. And there's the fact that this aircraft looks and flys great, yet it sounds like an electric plane in a hurricane. Real shame, I think it'll be difficult to take this one seriously if I get it. :/

      It certainly doesn’t seem to be a strength of theirs as a dev unfortunately James. I must admit, the more I’ve heard the sounds, the more I’ve grown to dislike them and it is a shame, as I’ve been enjoying the P-51 otherwise. I gather some users have been swapping out the sounds for the Asobo P-51 sounds, or even the FlyingIron Spitfire sounds - I may look to do the same (not an ideal solution of course).
      The verdict has been pretty unanimous on the sounds for Aeroplane Heaven’s last few releases, so I really hope they take the customer feedback onboard and look at how they can start improving things.

      That’s fair, Last Call. At the time of recording, I thought the sounds were fairly decent but, having subsequently upgraded my headphones, I came to find that actually, the soundset is indeed rather weak. Aeroplane Heaven eventually upgraded the soundset of their Spitfire but, unfortunately it seems that the Mustang will not be getting the same treatment (it hasn’t to date anyway). . . I ended up swapping out the native soundset, for the Asobo P-51 sounds; not a perfect solution but, still a significant improvement.

    More eye candy here (AGAIN!) and less simulation flight dynamics? If you can fly at 50 feet along the runway line and vary throttle to adjust rate of descent, keep within 30 feet, then they have a flight model (assuming minimum crosswind component). Without a thrust coefficient and drag (pitch) these flight models are merely toys, to please the masses. Pilots will know instantly! If you cant grease a landing there is some thing wrong, if your a trained pilot you can see it! No excuse really. All that hype two years ago about how intricate and exact the Asobo flight model could be....?

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 года назад

      It's certainly more towards that end of the spectrum David yes. Always difficult to know how much of the "blame" lies with Asobo vs the developer though.
      I rate my flying decent enough, that I can usssually get a reasonable landing out of an aircraft if it flies "right" and this one was rather tricky (this landing was one of the better one's I've done - phew haha), so I think some work is still needed in that regard.
      This one probably isn't for you, but then I think you knew that already ; )

    I do not agree that the engine sound is wonderful. It is quite disappointing, as seems to be the case with the AH aircraft in MSFS2020. This does nor sound like a Merlin with its crackle and pop - it is so quiet it could be anything. The engine starts a little too quickly, in my opinion, and is reminiscent of pre-FSX days. I won't be buying it.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 года назад

      Did I use the word “wonderful” MegaPeedee? If I did, that definitely wasn’t intentional. At the time, I thought the sounds were alright, but having cranked up the volume (I can’t have it too high whilst recording), I have to say I’ve grown to like the sounds less and less. You’re correct, sounds have definitely been a weak point for AH in the sim so far; given how many people have commented as such, I hope they will reconsider their sound development going forward.
      Totally understandable if you don’t want to pick it up. It’s a nice effort in some respects, lacking in others. . .

    FM looks a la MFS... mushy and without any personality. Why did the plane turned and roll right when stalling? Take Off run needed no 6" right rudder... It looked on rails pretty much. Wheels stopped as soon as the plane took off not at braking inputs.
    Modeling is complex but still "old" and texturing on warbirds look odd with all that gloss... looks plasticky.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 года назад +1

      Some fair criticism on a few points there Zaelu.
      The FM does still have some "MSFS" qualities to it for sure, but pretty much every aircraft in the sim does, so I'm not going to hold Aeroplane Heaven too responsible for that one (although there are certainly improvements that could be made to the flight model). I can't recall the inputs I made during the stall at this point, so it would be difficult to say whether the aircraft should have rolled right or not.
      Indeed the rudder trim was not a requirement, but the aircraft certainly wasn't on rails. It required pretty proactive rudder inputs on my part (mostly right rudder).
      The wheels stopping may be an aircraft issue, or it's possible it's an issue caused by the recording tool I use (not sure on that one).
      I like the modelling, I agree though that the aircraft does look a bit too glossy.
      Not trying to say you're wrong on an of your points, just trying to flesh out some of the details that I was unable to cover during the review.
