The movie, end of evangelion picks up straight after episode 24 and is pretty much the originally planned intended ending from a straight storytelling narrative at least. rather than the more abstract version these last 2 episodes show. Both are great endings in their own way and actually complement each other. There is also a manga which is maybe more of a middle ground, and then the rebuild series which is like half the show the goes off and does something completely different, although they are all connected in some way
"A happy ending? Well yes, at least until the end of the manga was published in 2013, which has a different ending, but is still canon, and until Evangelion 3.0+1.0 was released, which also has a different ending and is still canon. 😅😅😅
Congratulations! Really enjoyed you guys’ reactions to my favourite anime. I’d say the Rebuild movies are definitely worth watching, especially since you wanted a happier end and it doesn’t make the original non-cannon either.
the manga is almost the same with some slight differences and lots more detail the rebuild is hard to explain without spoilers, my biggest issue with it is the more modern animation style (I like the 90s style) but if you're an eva nerd it is totally worth watching
I'll just say it straight up about the movies: Death x Rebirth = Recap movie, no need to watch it End of Evangelion = Parallel to TV ep 25 & 26, the equivalent of "what actually happened during Instrumentality" the Rebuild series = A whole series of new Eva movies that start out looking like remakes, but end up waaaaaaaaay subverting expectations and doing its own thing

No End of Eva today? It’s like watching right up to the last episode and then being like ‘we’ll get around to it’ lol.
Many people don't like the rebuilds because they change the story. They are definitely enjoyable watch, so I would react to them if I were you.

The rebuilds feel like another show. Just leave the series and remember for as good as it was
The rebuilds are worth watching, and definitely has its own upsides. Some folks just didn’t like the deviation in some story and themes.
Watch. I think they are a lot more enjoyable if you don't constantly compare them to the show. They are their own thing. And well worth watching.
