I liked that Seth’s backstory showed us more and more just how creepy, sick, and awful he is. A lot of abusers’ backstories in tv shows try to make us sympathize with them or they go on some redemption arc, but the more Seth was on screen the more unhinged he got. I hate that other storylines were underdeveloped because of this but I see how it was necessary.
every time he looked at julia i could feel how the actor and director knew what they were going for. All of his actions around her were creepy and it was very obvious and thats good
I think Raf and his girlfriend are supposed to show two sides of Mexican identity w his gf being white/wealthy (her family fetishizing and profiting off of Indigenous people and artists IIRC) and him/his family being brown/poor but I do wish his character had just been Indigenous for representation and it would have been a better arc to be able to explicitly say these things to an audience that doesn’t know much on the subject.
I felt the same way.It's very much like Katniss in the hunger games. In the book her character along with characters like Gale/Haymitch/Rue/Thresh were supposed to represent supposed to represent and reflect racial socioeconomic inequality in America. As to where Peeta who is white blond with blue lives a more comfortable stable lifestyle in the town in the bakery and Katniss mother as well grew up in the town and looked just like Peeta. Most of the wealthier characters in ther series are usually white and the poorer ones are usually POC. But the movie took away all this significance when they made Katniss and the rest district 12 just white

I think Gretchen implied that there was another mole in the group and the camera panned to Shelby so now I am terrified for what's to come in season 3. Hopefully it was a misdirection.

I think shelby is a red herring bc of how blatant the implication was and that the true mole is Josh. there was a scene of Gretchen was visiting Josh with a bowl of sour patch kids and then leaving with an empty one while (iirc) cut between her speech to Seth abt lost desperate children w/o stable parents (specifically mothers bc ofc. she's Gretchen), and we know Josh is the black sheep of his family. we have no idea what Gretchen and Josh discussed in that room

He probably used his charm to manipulate him. Sociopaths are good at that. It’s like they have this addictive energy and they know who to target. He definitely knew he couldn’t emotionally manipulate Kirin and the others didn’t seem so easy but seems he got Raf knowing he was vulnerable and used that to his advantage.

Raf really annoyed me mainly because ehe was boring af, but since he was set up to be like the more moral compass/audience stand in character and I think it's accurate to how male relationships work and how they defend their abuser friends. And it's always so insulting when they tell victims "it's not that I don't believe you, or think you're lying".... but it is, you DON'T believe them and you DO think they're lying, you're just too spineless to truly say that because you know it's wrong. It only took Seth to turn on trying to ditch Kirin to make it very clear he did that. I really liked the boys' group storyline tbh but also hated it because it's frustrating to see how men just don't want to see red flags in themselves and their peers it only got interesting after Seth unfortunately did what he did (tensions rose, the plot started moving etc) and the girls' storylines got more boring to me because the climax of their stories were secondary to the boys imo.
It's just funny to me how the boys were empty stomach, dehydrated and still had the energy to be homophobic and abuser apologists lol
i haven’t seen many people mention it but i remember scotty talking about how the bank took away their house which is why he (and bo) destroyed it… i think that explains his aspirations of wealth (stemming from his need of financial stability) and i really want to see his storyline explored in the next season since we’ve basically gotten nothing for him
I still side eye Scotty because when Josh SA came out he doubted it for a second until Bo said something like "I know that type of hurt isn't faked" then Scotty went along but I doubt he would've without Bo. I almost thought they would split over it.

Honestly, Scotty seems like he has a LOT of work to do when it comes to social stuff. He’s great on looking out for himself and his own, but in that scene, I definitely think it was more him not wanting to lose Bo

if their stories were more fleshed out like the girls I think people would enjoy them more. just a disadvantage on their part for that reason + the timing between season 1 & 2 was so long the boys coming in felt random. I’m excited for them to get together s3 and hopefully people will enjoy them more

One plot hole I guess is how in season 1 they hyped up how Shelby basically lost her mind on the island and we saw a bit on it in season 1 but I thought more would have happened in season 2 for them to say that they couldn't be sure which Shelby they were gonna get in her interviews - and how the answer to her coming in on crutches was just because the tree, like I felt like they did it for the mystery and then had a create an underwhelming explanation
Yeah what happened to that storyline? They implied that Shelby had developed or already had some psychotic dissociative condition that manifested on the island, a "split personality of sorts," but I don't think we really touched on that in Season 2. I'm kind of glad they didn't go with it though; I preferred her arc without it.

I think it was very subtle by hearing in on her rapid change in behavior/emotional state. Mainly w/ the birthday scene, the hair cut scene, and her clinginess
the wording definitely made it seem like she had a whole nother personality, but she did have intense mood swings on the island too. also she couldve been playing them like leah. like maybe gretchen THINKS she has a mole in shelby, but shes just playing her
Yeah her personality during the interview was much more severe but at the end of the island she just seemed a little out of it. I don't think it would be a permanent thing though, she seemed shaken up after the breakup and trauma from home that it doesn't seem too bad
The lack of accounting for extraneous variables and checking for biases makes me cringe. No one would take this seriously as a valid experiment. We have the scientific method for a reason 😭😂

I really enjoyed Season 2, but I wish it had been 10 episodes like Season 1 so that we could have learned a little more about the boys! I really enjoyed their storylines. I loved the biblical, fallen-angel, Adam and Eve, creationism symbols and references sprinkled throughout this season. And I knew Seth was a weirdo IMMEDIATELY! Coming in with that youth group leader energy, NO SIR! And Josh...we needed a Josh episode bad because he switched up his attitude very suddenly by the end of the season. And you're right, Gretchen sabotaged them by making Seth the mole and I firmly believe she knew what she was doing. Ivanka Trump's tether back in action

@@Msgirl-rp4sq i don’t think he has low empathy i think he was just being a teen… i think he saw that since kirin was so close to the coach and sad about him leaving, he didn’t see the effect the coach had on him and only saw him as a “sympathizer” (he said this in the episode) and focused on taking him down as well.

Tbh i feel like the way Ivan's episode was written, we never got to see his experience that led to his defensive mindset, we only ever got to see him in a loving relationship which no one really seemed to have an issue with, and where he was kind of deflecting his boyfriend's feelings whenever he tried to deepen their relationship. (Like when luc said he wouldn't mind spending the rest of their life together and Ivan was like this lighting WOW. Or when luc was showing his art and Ivan willingly left to confront Kirin)
Compare that to when we visibly see Kirin's distress and pain, most people at surface level just see Ivan as a character whose reasons for lashing out haven't been developed and are led to assume Ivan is just an attention seeker who puts clout before everything else, both the emotions of another human being clearly in pain to even the relationship and feelings of the person he cared most about.
Not saying that Kirin wasn't in the wrong, because he still absolutely shouldn't have said that, but again, the way it was written was kind of like Kirin just wanted Ivan to stop and leave, not that he actually felt that way about Ivan. Which again, leaves most viewers to blame Ivan for the situation.
Overall, yeah, Kirin still shouldn't have said that word. But it's hard to watch this episode without seeing Ivan as attention seeking without understanding why he's so defensive in the first place, which is never shown to us.
I too want the Wilds S3 finale to end with a group jumping of Seth and hopefully some more episodes

re: Fatin telling Leah the truth, I have a theory.
Shelby slipped Leah the scrap of paper that says "You were right". I think Fatin scribbled this into Nora's notebook before it was taken away from her and they were separated. So she kept a copy for herself and gave the other to Shelby, and whoever was able to get to Leah first would give it to her. I really hope we see Fatin, Shelby, and Leah become a trio in s3--Leah not being alone in her investigation means everything to me.
My other theory is that Shelby ate shellfish/went into anaphylactic shock so as to give Leah an opportunity in the bunker, and we see her take advantage of it and get in contact with Raf.

they were fighting an uphill battle introducing a whole new group in the second season, but they didnt do it terribly. im excited to go back and rewatch fatin's interview episode knowing she actually knew what was up too

This and the girls never got their periods and the boys never grew facial hair on the island. I know this stuff is minor but I notice this lack of continuity and the lack of it makes it hard for me to get into it. That’s just me though.
Gretchen was always looking out for the experiment and she knew what she was doing by leaving Seth with the other boys. I feel like she did put that panther on their island as a second fail safe invade Seth wasn’t enough. She wanted their experiment to fail and it technically did, the girls won. I didn’t really like the boys storyline until after day 15, because I was intrigued how the show would write a story line like that. I was hooked with where they took the girls this season and I can’t wait for season 3👀

He was dead wrong for what he provoked kirin into saying and the fact that he couldn’t see that it was wrong until it effected him personally kind of shows what kind of person he is, or at least was. And he wasn’t even going to say anything about what he did. So good job in his boyfriend’s behalf

I actually really enjoyed both s2 in general and the boys’ island segments. The contrast of their early days and the girls’ later stay was good. The season’s pacing and character exploration (for the boys) was a little worse than s1 for obvious reasons but I think that s3 (if we get one) will be the payoff to the awkward introduction of the two separate storylines. So glad you made a video on this again!

Fatin and Leah’s biggest tells were the instrument scene, every time they were next to each other, every time they looked at each other, and the tree/Ben Folds scene. Then them meeting at the end was adorable
I feel like the more would be Martha based on the lines from the last season on her committing perjury and Gretchen wanting to use that against her.
But if the writers go for the least likely character(s), it’ll definitely be Rachel or Toni as the mole

Season 1 is definitely superior! But I feel, like in many shows, shipping culture is affecting the opinions of some people….I feel like people are jumping to hate any and all boy scenes because it means less girl scenes meaning less seeing their group dynamics and seeing less of their ships. But everyone seems to forget that along with the show being about relationships, it is also about the absolutely messed up experiment and these questions of group dynamics in a female centric and then in a male centric environment. If anything, the contrast made me adore the girls further, but it needed this contrast. I don’t think another season of just the girls getting through island life could work?

Tbh I liked the boy group (excepts Seth, he is a demon from hell) and their plot. Like some moments were weird asf because men are weird and intense especially when surrounded by other men; but I do think it was a good idea to let them into the story to just change the group dynamic
i really just hate that the writers did the ONE thing that fans begged them not to do since the show first premiered which is having a group of primary male characters monopolize the screen time. i seriously don’t understand their decision to add the boys when the audience was already invested in the dynamic between girls. there are so few GOOD and diverse shows fully centered around girls and they just HAD to let boys shine too. no one wanted this. we already knew there was a boys group involved in the experiment so we didn’t really need a whole season introducing them especially because it took away from the girls storylines significantly. they could incorporate the boys group into the main plot without focusing on them individually. it’s also super inconsistent- some of the boys feel like fully realized characters and some feel like random stereotypes generated by a computer and have no personality at all, whereas all the girls are completely unique and fleshed out. i tried to get invested in the boys because i love the show and didn’t want to be disappointed in season 2 but i feel like the whole boys story was completely unnecessary and kinda poorly executed. the girls storyline barely moved forward and it was still 10x more engaging.
I guess the writers/show runners made a show that they wanted to. Shocking!

the boys had to be introduced one way or the other since they're going to be in season 3. if we didn't get a whole season introducing them, they would've felt even more out of place especially when we came into season 3; you're already saying that they're underdeveloped so why would giving them less time make things better if they have to be there? i don't think this season was as well executed for sure and the girls are definitely more fleshed out, but the solution would've then been to give the boys the entire season 2 like they did for season 1 or spend even more time on them then they're probably already planning in season 3 and given how people are reacting to season 2 even though the girls are there and have a good amount of screen time, that probably would've killed the show completely.
@@sakurabomb5 my point is that their characters didn’t need to become the center of the show. obviously i know they needed to be introduced for plot reasons but delving into backstories was unnecessary especially since they did a lazy job of drawing parallels to the girls which feels like what they were going for. each girl character feels like they were picked for a specific reason. like they all had something to add to the group - different leadership and survival qualities. they all balance each other out. the boys feel completely messy and out of place which maybe was gretchen’s intention since her experiment is completely biased. the chemistry isn’t there between the boy group (acting wise and writing) and the characters aren’t that interesting. they could have just shown us glimpses of the group when it was necessary for the plot instead of halfheartedly copying the same format from season 1. people watch the show for the girls. no one would care if the boys had less screen time.

this season was good, not better than the first one, but the boys were insufferable and i agree that their storylines are being saved to be developed later on. i’m scared for shelby bc when gretchen wicked ass was explaining phase 3 of the experiment the camera went to shelby and she was kinda grinning and it did seem like they were torturing someway in the facility, too. i just hope she’s not tricked into in it all now :( they need to throw nora’s ass in that damn island. i just don’t know how rachel could forgive her otherwise and i need peace and love only from now on for rachel. also, gretchen got rid of all the paperwork, then kinda dosed her staff, so idk if she’s just gonna let seth go rogue or wtf. lastly, i hope they develop more on the actual experiment and gretchen’s son.
I think the camera pointing to shelby when mentioning a person on the inside was too obvious for it it actually be her. Especially because they did it in both seasons.
But, Shelby’s dream about the future did seem like Gretchen guilted her into something by blaming her for Martha’s state

I also really liked how the events of season 2 with the girls led up perfectly to the season 1 "future" scenes, like for example Shelby giving Leah that note about her being right in season 1, and then seeing how Shelby got to know now in season 2 was *chef's kiss*.

Seth’s character was so good cause he was so bad. Like in the first few eps I was like why is he giving incel energy so I was so on guard especially since he is kinda my flavor of white boy. So when he dropped the nugget about the cat I was like oh no it’s confirmed here we go. At first when we saw him try to drown Henry I was scared we were going the redemption route. But was pleasantly surprised that they chose the realistic manipulative monster route.

I personally felt like there was so much character depth with the girls and not as much with the boys, I think I prefer the first season over the second but I’m very excited about season 3!

I feel like the boys were set up by the show runners to be hated on tbh there’s a lot of nuance to their stories that could’ve used more development not less. The two missing episodes this season really showed

I tried my best to love the boys stories as much as the girls but wallah I just couldn’t , maybe it was intentional, maybe the writing is that way to not like the guys.
Maybe their horrible polar opposite disturbing personalities is what Gretchen needed to complete the “experiment”. Her intentions is to find matchable personalities for the girls, but the most horridness ones for the boys. And blame it on “bad male behavior” as she said.

Don’t come for me but Toni kinda annoyed me this season (especially at the end) she treated Shelby so so bad and Shelby deserved so much better then Toni, she came for literally everyone for no reason in particular Dot, Fatin and Leah. Like we get it your friends losing her mind but everyone is struggling, Rachel lost her arm and her sister, Leah nearly drowned like 2 times and nearly killed herself (it’s obvious that’s she’s not okay), Fatin, Dot and Shelby r trying to keep the group together while everyone’s losing it. The way she was so rude to Dot when as you said if it wasn’t for her she would be dead. ALSO the way Leah was right all along and now that Shelby and Fatin know it gonna be cool to see them work together!
I didn’t really like Ivan’s backstory. It just feels like lazy writing. Not only is it eerily similar to Tony’s (queer character loses their partner cause they react “too mean” to legitimate bigotry) but also much less realistic than people just being homophobic. I haven’t been to high school in a while but it just felt like a 👉👉👉👉👉👉reache
i think Ivan's story was actually pretty accurate to how older teenagers are now on the internet always looking for a fight to give so they can further this idea of moral purity even if it means looking for a fight where there isn't one! i also thought it was quite different from toni's story because it dealt more with her anger issues and how she lashes out when she's feeling vulnerable or hurt
With the way social media is, I don’t think it’s too far fetched. Luckily my schools weren’t like this. But he definitely is one of the toxic social justice warriors that we’re seeing. He gets high off one issue that he raised attention to then decides everyone must go down.
