“Start locally.” Reminds me of Fiji water! They started off with making sure that every store on their block sold Fiji water. Then, they went to the next block and made sure of it. Then the next block and the next one, and pretty soon, they had their whole city.

    Competition
    ■90%inside focusing on you■
    10%outside focusing on competition
Your goal is to focus on ur game(boxing )instead of focusing on je jitsu
    Follow steps
    1locally
    2statewide
    3regional
    4national
    5globally
    Dont expand too fast

Harvard is way too bureaucratic for that. Teachers teach there based on tenure, not on intellect or added value to their customers (students). To admit that Patrick (1.8 high school GPA, no formal college degree) knows more than they do, would be admitting defeat.

So, totally agree that if you're focused y what your competition is doing, you be won't focus on how to improve your business, product, quality, your operative system, etc. I think is good take a look at your competition time and time, but like Pat said, 90% effort should put it on your own business and improve every day. Thanks

Okay I own a computer repair company called theitdr and the biggest problem with me is getting new customers I have just started putting out ads on Google and I'm about to on Binge but another problem for me is in my area I have about 3 other computer repair shops, one almost went out of business, the other is going strong because it is well known and won the best repair shop in my city and than the other one I don't hear about them but the thing is I'm not making any money and I'm not willing to give up on it but it is getting hard what should I do? And sometimes I get a few customers that come from them and they tell me that they have been ripped off by them or weren't treated right

1_advertising is good..I also advise you to use facebook advertising, works wonders for me..2_the old fashioned way: hire sone teens to distribute flyers of your shop( preferably near the competition's shop, to attract their customers) 3_ do sthg unique that others are not doing, I don't know about your field but here are few suggestions( offer customers free internal cleaning of their pc and remove the stuck dust...give sthg for free for every repair they make, for my business I give them free bracelets...on every official occasion, send then gift cards just offering value, and you'll build a connection with them, and guess who they'll be referring their relative who's looking to repair sthg to.)... there are lots of other tips and techniques I can't really remember right now

Regulation of business is not a bad thing. We the People regulate businesses to protect We the People from being screwed over by big businesses that only care about money and don't care who they hurt.
Think about where we would be without the laws against monopolies. Imagine how much we'd be paying for things!!
However - entrepreneurs need to be protected by special provisions in regulations. Because (1) We the People don't want to (as Pat said) bar the little guy's entrance into business. And, (2), of course entrepreneurs are not the ones who would be screwing over We the People. In fact having lots of entrepreneurs protects us all from that.
Entrepreneurs need a lobbyist organization that goes to Washington to fight for our rights. I don't know if we have one. But I don't see Congress fixing the problems in Obamacare that hurt small business. Instead they're cleaving to "all or nothing" - kill it completely or take my ball and go home pissed. So my guess is that they're not feeling much pressure from small business.
