Wow! That's a beautiful revolver and special because it belonged to your grandfather. I don't know if I could bring myself to shoot it but I would sure want to. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I got a S&W 22Lr with a serial # of K201513. Looks similar to yours but has some kind of ivory handle grips, probably replacements for the original wood. Any idea on how to date these using the serial number? Also mine doesn't have a model 18-2, I'm pretty confused by the model number system. Mine says T26731, with a 7 below that when you open up the drum and look behind it. On the actual drum itself, and on the base of the handle I have the K201513 serial.
My Dad just past down his model 18 that he bought early 60’s just after he got married he said my mom was upset with him for buying it. I glad he did he said it was his favorite gun to shoot. I’ve taken to the range several times it’s a sweet hart to shoot.
Nice gun dude! Looks immaculate! I have a snub blued 15 like your's. The hammer I THINK is a little bigger. I didn't catch the hammer of the 22 but the 15 has what I call a semi-target hammer. It's not quite a target hammer and it's not as skinny as a standard hammer. Sucks there is duct tape on the box, but even the duct tape looks vintage! I haven't gotten there yet, but I'm curious about the auto you got back there!
All S&W .22s have had counterbored chambers since 1936 and this is continued to this day, Only the magnum calibers were counterbored in the centerfire revolvers. This feature was deemed unnecessary with modern ammunition and discontinued in 1982. Your 18-2 revolver in its pristine conditon with original box is worth a sizable amount to a collector.
If you give me the first 3 or 4 digits of the serial number, I can, give you an exact year. Glad you noticed the diamond grips are slightly darker. It's not just me lol.

wow, that's an amazing piece. It looks like its been to the range maybe 5 times, if that, over all these years!

the recessed cylenders are the best feature wish more pistols had this. Looks great blued.
I agree that the recessed cylinders are a nice touch and it’s great when I can find them.

Glad to hear it. I’ll definitely get more range footage for future videos!
