Thank you for sharing, being open & vulnerable. I am currently in therapy from a similar up bringing. My mom raised me & my brother, alone, we were sheltered & she was from the south as well. So, I went through similar things, sending lots of love & virtual hugs.♥️♥️♥️

As a therapist, respectfully, your mom sounds like a real humdinger. But I’m taken with your resiliency! From lonely child to community builder. This is special, especially when you consider how abuse (ESPECIALLY verbal abuse degrading you as a person) isolates and make people feel alone and separate. Stay open, expressing vulnerability heals and keep building community.
Also FYI incorporating hair grease on your recommendation changed my life!❤

I was able to identify with a good part of this. My older cousin was born lgbtq and he suffered the brunt of it all. So by the time I was born and came around, my family(immediate and extended) felt so bad about how my cousin was treated they wanted things to be different with me. Appreciate the candidness and rawness of the video. It definitely took courage, and will help others struggling with similar issues.

Very relatable, and I can relate to a lot of the feelings of anger and no one giving any consideration to your feelings, especially when you didn't even do anything wrongnorbto warrant it. Thank you for sharing.

It takes a lot to be vulnerable…that’s the biggest part of being able to heal. And not so much to others but yourself. Love you Rada! 🫂💜

I feel for you and relate to a lot of your wounds. I can tell that despite all you've endured you still have an admirable compassion for yourself and for those around you. I sincerely hope that you don't lose that even though no one could really blame you if you did. Even though we don't know each other I'm rooting for you. You have a lot of life ahead of you!

I don't think your mom is a terrible person... most likely bipolar with narcissistic tendencies raised in a southern black home in the Bible belt. I had the same mom.
But I don't understand with the success of your channel and your salon... why do you still live with her?

    • @AfrikanHairGod

Why do people stay married in unhappy relationships? You learn to try and work it out. You only get one mother some people are unfortunate to never experience one. Despite all the terrible things she's done I turned out to be a very respectable, intelligent, and good hearted, and loving person. She is also responsible for that. I'm at a happy place in my life despite my experiences. There's nothing she can do or say to tear me down or take my joy or peace from me. She's getting older and she doesn't want me to leave. I've always been the man of the house and my mom and sisters need my presence to feel safe and secure. Part of being a man is living up to your responsibilities and expectations even when life is hard or difficult. Truth be told I have no reason to leave. It's convenient for both of us. Had I been out on my own when I was hardly making money when my hands took me out from work for 6 month, I would have been in a terrible place in my life financially and emotionally.
What I have learn in life is that anything can happen in the most random times. Living with her has taught me humility and tolerance. That keeps me grounded and allows me to move and maneuver thru life more freely than if I was boggled down with living on my own and everything that comes with that.

@AfrikanHairGod I see. You're still there because she actually doesn't want you to leave, you feel you'd be helping her (and yourself) by staying, and if she flips and threatens to throw you out again (I'm assuming those threats have subsided?...) you're now in a financial position where you could easily land on your feet and be okay. 🙂
Thank you so much for sharing! My mom was very much the same as yours. From Alabama, strict Christian household, bi- polar disorder (diagnosed years after I left the household), had her own personal trauma and promiscuity in her childhood, fighting her own demons so much that I got caught in the crosshairs, became a "devout" Christian either right before or shortly after I was born, homophobic, etc...And ironically enough, she ended up with a gay daughter and transsexual son!
And I, like you, have only a handful of memories prior to 4th grade - and those were traumatic as well.
Sharing those experiences aren't easy... for anyone. I'm glad you shared yours.
I'm 42 now. And for me, returning back to my Christian upbringing (the New Testament Jesus's Love kind instead of the Pharisee kind) has made me stronger and shine brighter than ever before (He's still working on me though!)
I'm just so saddened that your experience has left such a bad taste in your mouth about Christianity. But who knows... I don't remember your age (my change came around 26 or 27) you could have a new experience tomorrow and become the Prodigal Son sooner than you think!
Either way, congratulations on your growth and success. Those demons really do come running after you when it's silent. Thank God you had something in you to fight them off! 😉
