Hopefully don't mind a little friendly advice. Carry a trash pouch don't just put it back on the ground. Get your coil on the ground and make sure to lap your swings. 5-in coil takes a long time to cover any amount of ground but is ultra sensitive. If you find a single piece work the ground very carefully all around it, it might be a patch. I'm out in the gold basin that use to produce a lot of gold but it's rare to find it now. It's still good exercise and great way to get outdoors so good luck and happy hunting.
It's a little late to be commenting on this thread, but I will anyway. I have been using a metal detector since 1968. I've gone through a variety of them. The first one I built myself from plans and electrical parts. The second one was a World War II mine detector. My current detector is a Garrett AT Pro with the small coil for hunting gold or other very small items. There is one thing you absolutely much have. And that is a small hand held detector called a "Pin-pointer". It is only about one foot long and the head on them is only about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. The newer detectors can detect targets as small as a piece of buck-shot from a shot-gun shell. Sometimes the biggest piece of gold is about that size. You will detect it with the metal detector, but you will most likely never find it without a Pin-pointer. Look into getting the Garrett Pro pin-pointer. I carry two with me at all times while in the field. Since this thread is old, you probably already have one. If so, I'm sure you already know what I mean about hard to find small items. I live on the Mojave Desert in California. There are too many gold mines around here to count. I very much enjoy watching your adventure. Good job! By the way, I'm a camper too. Maybe our paths will cross some time in the future.
Once again a total package of a presentation. interesting stories, beautifull scenery, matching music. Thanks for taking us with you , to places most of us will never experience . Keep up the lovely outlook on life.
HI Hannah. Raw gold is around 22 karat..24 karat is pure gold. So if you find gold sometimes it's a bit less than the spot price, but nuggets are a premium and you can get more than spot price.
I’m impressed. I still haven’t found anything. I’m pretty sure I’ve been to that area. You did awesome! That’s a larger chunk than I see found in most prospecting based videos.
Low and slow is the way to go with a detector, and dig everything to start with. You will have found a lot of metal junk before the nugget. I hope you picked up most of the junk and dumped it so others don’t have to dig up junk. Keep safe. I have spent a small fortune and found zip but you have to be in it to win it. Great exercise.

That's awesome that you found a nugget. Will always give you something to look at and remember your travels. My wife and I have over 1 million miles traveling in RV's, and have tons of pictures and memories of our travels. Just one of them is we were in Michigan in the upper peninsula on lake Michigan. The fog was just starting to lift off the lake, and there was a guy walking down the beach in a full Scottish outfit playing the bagpipes!!!! It was so cool!!! I came up to him and the first thing he said is I will stop playing, I laughed and said please don't. My family is from Scotland and you just made my day.
Oh my goodness this is so cool. I'm a touch Scotch Irish, I love the bagpipes and on a foggy lake, sounds amazing! Scotland is on my list of places to see. The memories are truly worth it, I love looking back on photos and videos, it makes it so much more fun. Thanks so much for stopping by=)

Well, I find it kind of cool watching you, you are exploring many of the same areas I did when I was about your age, only I mostly did it during my weekends. I worked the graveyard shift and Friday morning was my Saturday, I would leave strait from work in, I kid you not, a convertible loaded with gear and hike the Sierra's, especially the Eastern Side. I would finish up on Sunday and race back to Northern California and work all night, I did not need much sleep when I was young. On vacations I would hike for days out there. So, it's fun seeing you in some of the places I love. But, this year, I discovered gold panning, mostly because I wanted to get out of my COVID blues of being home. So, I love it that you are doing the same. So, that nugget, I can tell you that is a pretty darn large find. Experienced prospectors almost never find one that large, as you probably know from previous efforts. So, it will be exciting to see your claim. As for your naming the claim, that is almost as suggestive as the names I gave to some of my home brewed beers I named after some women I was fortunate to have spent time with. I've randomly been doing very similar activities out of historical intrigue and came across your videos during my research. Oddly I've also been camper living for a few months since I started college last year. I've been mainly doing hard rock mine exploring but have collected a lot of ore samples. I have the next few weeks free of commitments and have decided to park my camper somewhere near some interesting mines and explore. Maybe two sets of eyes are better than one if you're open to combining efforts sometime.
OMG I so gotta watch this. I'm at the 'i've been gold prospecting for about half a year now" part, feeling a bit foolish for suggesting you should try panning. I'm new here. An 8 gram nuggy, are you kidding me? Good for you!
Well, that was a nice unexpected treasure. I did not know Samuel Clemens went out west, and that roof is still together, very cool. Thanks for showing that. I would not have expected to find gold on the surface soils. If you have Reception, maybe use GPS to your location, then Google Earth and see if any subtle drainage areas near you, birds eye view. Cover your digits, LNT 😃.
That's pretty awesome, one time my father and I went to North Carolina to pan for gold. It was really exciting to find gold in the sluice box after working hard. We had the river to jump in to cool off.
Unfortunately there's no gold to be found, here in Germany, but the free life, driving and making your own way... that is priceless! Thanks for another great "day in the life" Hannah x
Fun times with a detector and finding gold ! Like pennies....old cans, tent stakes, screws, nails, wire...... hehehe. Although my friend borrowed my detector to find his wife's lost wedding ring in their yard. I'll have to try surface detecting out that way sometime. A little nugget for ya though.... Out that way is a cool back road. About 100 miles long, from Gerlach to Winnemucca (W to E). "The Jungo Road" . You can run it either direction and you get waaaay out there. I like running east to west to end up on the great playa of the Black Rock Desert. There is so cool stuff out there including hot springs (beware of some of them......dangerously hot / scalding) Near "Trego Hot Springs" you'll find a primitive backcountry RR Crossing to access the great playa, which is an awesome experience to cross or just find a remote spot in the middle to park it for a while. 400 square miles of flat playa. Make sure to air down a bit and have good tires, a good spare, and tire repair kit / compressor. The loose basalt road surface is heck on tires if you don't take precautions. ( I've run it 1/2 a dozen times without issue). So did you find that nugget with a detector or and pan? Peace~Out, Stay Safe !
A little tip for metal detecting in a big area get some kind of markers to put on the ground so you can swing your detector in straight lines back and forth over an area then work the same area at 90 degrees in a grid pattern so you know you didn’t miss any signals good luck. Hopefully you can find some more of those nuggets, that is so awesome!!

I am very happy for you. As a miner in the Eastern U.S. gold is pretty easy to find in Tennessee, Georgia and the Carolinas. I have had some of my gold shot with a mass spectrometer. It is interesting to see the rare earth elements show up in the sample. Some of the purest gold on earth comes from the Piedmont gold trend in the eastern U.S. Great find!!!!!

Nice Find...! That's huge..! Awesome..!!
Looking great as always Doc❤️❤️
Thank you for the tip! It seems to be very easy to forget what you've already detected when much of it looks the same!
Your welcome
I'm a new subscriber. You probably get this a lot but i just have too say you are one of the most beautiful individuals I have ever seen, not just you're amazing presents but you are such a nice person. Thank you for making your videos or I never would have seen you. David
Love that Fisher Gold Bug ?? Great little machine .... Good job.
Yes that's what I've got=)
I am very happy for you. As a miner in the Eastern U.S. gold is pretty easy to find in Tennessee, Georgia and the Carolinas. I have had some of my gold shot with a mass spectrometer. It is interesting to see the rare earth elements show up in the sample. Some of the purest gold on earth comes from the Piedmont gold trend in the eastern U.S. Great find!!!!!
That's so interesting, I guess I've never given thought to running gold through a mass spec.
