    This was a surprisingly interesting match. It's one thing to see the Johns brothers dominate in a match, something else to see them play left-handed... and how well they actually did. I have no doubt that they could practice for a week and then easily dominated the 5.0s. This also made me realize how much strategy is a part of the game, and how the good players can out-think their opponents even if they can't outplay them left-handed.

    Zane perhaps you can help me answer a question man. I play a bit and teach as well. I'm close to a 5.0 DUPR with extremely minimal work put in (played college tennis). I love the game and in trying to understand it more I cannot for the life of me understand why the pros don't serve harder in doubles. In every playing instance i've been in or taught in, serving hard is extremely advantageous and completely (imo from.my limited experience) worth the risk in doubles as well as singles however it still seems like pros are often content to just play serves in at medium speed and i cant get my head around it. I realize theyre playing lefty in this video but i was still surprised to see Guillermo who is clearly a quite good player serving in balls that were mid to low speed.

    Playing the off-hand makes you think differently about every shot and notice things about your dominant hand. I normally play lefty, but against my kids I sometimes switch. The first time I did so, I realized how much I change my grip for different shots; I never realized it until I was thinking about how to position the paddle.
    TL;DR: I'd recommend that everyone try switching hands once in a while to see what you learn about your game.

    I’m a lefty. That was fun to watch. I’d give Ben & CJ a 5.0 rating because of their footwork in getting in position to hit, ability to win points on CJ’s serve, Ben’s body bags, and experience on strategy. They would clean up a lot of the missed returns and leaving the ball high.

    Super interesting content. The Johns Brothers showcase wise placement no matter what hand they use to play. Their comments to Zane highlight their intelligent gamesmanship. ו note that Ben’s patented backhand roll put away is much weaker with his left hand than his right hand. Question: are they doing this to keep up their own interest in the game or as part of their continuing pickleball development so they can surprise opponents with left-handed shots or two forehands in the middle?

He should try to win gold it would be an accomplish not many could ever do. Plus he has won a lot of gold already right handed. This could be a challenge for him to make things interesting for him again. Don't you think!

    • @saucythighs
      @saucythighs 5 месяцев назад

      I'm guessing they've trained it at least a little bit. I don't know about pros but I've found it more natural to switch my left for certain shots. There are those rare shots that, even if you move as fast as you can, you just won't be able to get behind it in time actually backhand it... but switching hands will extend your range just enough.
      P.S. Just looked it up and saw a clip of Ben Johns doing it in a match.
