People leaving unpleasant comments because you got an ARC could probably deal with their jealousy issues in a healthier manner. It was a blast chatting with you and our fellow Quilluminati on Wednesday! Have fun with Wind and Truth, Mike!
I don’t comment much but your videos are always something I look forward to each week. I am reading Shōgun based on your recommendation and I only have 100 pages left. It will easily become one of my all time favorites and almost made me cry, which I really didn’t expect. Thank you for all you do!
Love seeing you just accept the slow pace with Wind and Truth! I personally couldn't stop myself from bingeing it and I already regret it because the second half was SO good and now I have a book hangover hahaha. Happy reading and watching!
I know in your predictions video, you weren't keen on having a 10-day structure. I was in the same boat and groaned when I opened the book and saw that was happening. BUT I think it worked really well. The pace was fantastic for such a chonker compared to the usual 5-part structure. Very happy with it and the whole book overall!
Finished reading ‘The Feather Thief’ which was a short and enjoyable true crime story. And started ‘Dark Matter’ after hearing your glowing reviews of Mr. Crouch. And it’s been amazing! Hard to put it down. I’ll finish it tomorrow!
Glad to hear the Indian Jones game is a blast! It's on my list currently playing through the metro series for the first time since I never got the chance to play since I was too young to play them. As far as what I'm reading I'm about to finish up Star by Star in the New Jedi order and I started The Heart of What Was Lost by Tad Williams.
You’re right, late 80s and into the 90s was an incredible era for basketball. As far as 30 for 30’s, I’ve enjoyed all of them, but one of the most memorable ones was the one on the 90s Bills and Scott Norwood. It was sad to see how that missed field goal still impacts him greatly today.
@@stevenstewart782 Never thought about it, but you raise a good question. What does the 30 for 30 mean? Typically they’re just under 2 hours on most of their docs and the Celtics and Lakers is the only one (that I know of) that’s more than one part. All of them are great, my wife doesn’t care for sports but loves this series. Very well produced! All of them are great, especially the early ones (2009+) and Bad Boys is a reminder of how much I loved watching ball in the late 80s. We don’t see anything on that level anymore today, not even close. Nor’s the talent or players. Kobe, in my opinion, was the last of them. If you get a chance, watch the docs on The U! Some wild and historical greatness there 👍
I just passed the halfway point of Wind and Truth yesterday and I do think the second half is shaping up to be much more impactful than the first - Day 6-8 were pure 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I don’t understand what the heck is wrong with these dummies complaining. If people are gonna be that bitter…they need to be a bit more mature and move on. Grow up, people. Thank you for your voice in the book world, Mike. I’ve followed for a long time now and I have much respect for your voice and opinion on things. You’re a no BS kind of guy and I appreciate that a ton. Your channel has rekindled my love for reading in so many ways. Between you and Ian Gubeli, I was finally convinced to try King and love my experience so far. You’ve put me on to books I never would have heard of on my own. A Mike video is like sitting down for a beer with a friend, just to talk about stories. In my humble opinion, you’re a pillar in the Booktube space.
I’m having a similar experience with Wind and Truth. On page 500 and enjoying it but not loving it as much as I hoped. Still confident Sanderson will deliver though. Also, I love hearing your thoughts on The Devils, not sure why anyone would be mad. Gets me even more excited to read it!
no hate for you getting Abercrombie early. Just happy to hear that it's a good read, can't wait!!! Still not going to watch your bookhauls until you read Thraxas though.... 😂
I finished Wind and Truth in 15 days. The 2nd half definitely picks up in my opinion. Now that I'm done with that behemoth, I'm back to Excalibur, continuing with One Piece and Spy Family. I've been doing another playthrough of AC Valhalla and I love it...but my gosh, it feels TOO big. I'm all for open world games, but I'm about 72 hours into it and I've still got so much to do 😪
Screw the haters, Mike. It’s awesome you got your favorite authors book early. You do a lot for the reading community and I love what you do my dude. Do you think the Devils is a good place to start with Abercrombie?
I have seen several booktubers talking about Lonesome Dove lately. I don't know if it directly ties to you, but I suspect you definitely helped call attention to it.. You and Brian Lee Durfee were the only fantasy review RUclipsrs I ever saw talking about that book, and now quite a few are reading it. Keep tossing those pebbles out there. You never know how far the waves will go
For every negative and annoying comment there should be 10 to offset it. Here’s mine and I don’t care if it’s really long. 1. Mike will always wage the war against the evil forces of the (jealous) Decepticons. 2. I’m about to start Bloodsworn and I would not have even heard of John Gwynne if I hadn’t come across your channel about a year ago, and I saw your wall of Stephen King (almost exactly like my wall) and those cool book spines on the other wall. Yes I paused your video and zoomed in and tried to figure out what they were and I did! 3. I’m fascinated by all of your kick-ass T-shirts and where you could possibly keep them all. You are the only one I have ever seen (besides me) who has the metallica shirt with all the albums on it. That is some vintage s#*t! 4. I’m also fascinated by all of your kick-ass mugs and where you could possibly keep them all. 5. My TBR pile has grown and shrunk (and grown again) because you have inspired me to read again the way I used to. 6. You inspired me to revisit the Lonesome Dove world after so many years, and like you I don’t read westerns, but that is one of my all-time favorite books. Ok that one’s kind of random. 7. I respect your honesty when it comes to reviews, as you were mentioning earlier in this video. 8. Your “why I should read” segments have brought me to many new worlds and authors. 9. The Thrawn trilogy has been sitting on my bookshelf since I was a youngster, and I never read it, and I never even knew it was called the Thrawn trilogy. Now I’m going to read all 1 million OG Star Wars books because of you and your SW where to begin video. 10. You care about us and make loads of content to make our lives better and more enjoyable. Thank you Mike, and I hope you and yours have a great rest of your holiday season.
I just read Justice of Kings and Empire of the Vampire back to back. Both 5 ⭐️ for me. So happy to end the year on such a high note. I went back and watched your reviews of both 😊
I’m am on day 7. I am liking it. It’s really getting better in the second half. But oh boy the editing of this book… is something. Hopefully Brandon is going to listen to the people and improve on the editing process. I’m not as ecstatic yet about W&T but there are very good scenes and reveals. I actually enjoy the scenes in SR. I actually also enjoy the Venli POVs, more than I thought I would. Getting back into the chasms as soon as I finish this video! Happy Reading Mike!
Finally starting Oathbringer this weekend! I need to quit procrastinating and buckle down... but the length always makes me hesitate, even if I know I will probably love them! Also, I'm really disappointed that people are being so hateful and petty about you getting an ARC of The Devils. I don't understand why so many people seem to struggle with patience so much that they turn downright mean just because they have to wait for something. It's shameful. I'm happy for you! Don't let the muggles get you down.
I didn't know why anybody would think would be a good idea to make a Kraven the Hunter movie That doesn't center around the 6 issue comic where Kraven hunts Spider-man
I've made it to A Time of Courage! I'm gonna be sad af to see the Banished Lands go. You nailed it for me again man. I LOVE John Gwynne. I already bought the Bloodsworn Saga but I think im gonna read someone else before I knock out the last 3 Gwynne books. Don't wanna burn out on him, I've throughly enjoyed his writing. I can't believe I read Faithful and the Fallen and the first two of Blood and Bone in 30 days lmao
I just finished A Clash of Kings, and I love it! Personally, it was much slower than the first book in A Song of Ice and Fire, and it wasn't quite as good. But it absolutely had its moments! I just begun A Storm of Swords yesterday, the same day my christmas holiday started! I'll read this book through the holiday that lasts until 5th of January ish, so I'll have to read quite fast for my standard pace. Currently 50 pages through, and it has a solid start in my opinion! As for Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, I still haven't gotten through much of it. But personally? I don't like it so far. Indiana Jones is my "childhood" series, so it has a lot to live up to. I think part of my dislike of it is the fact that it barely works on my PC (Steam.) It lags like crazy, so I have to turn all the graphics to minimum, and then I have like 20 - 30 fps (My pc can handle other heavier games with ease, so I don't think my computer is directly the problem.) Also, I'm not a fan of first person, and the movements in the game feel really janky. Occasionaly too, dialog overlaps like crazy, so I don't catch what anyone is saying, and it also sometimes just cuts off. Idk, I have had many headaches with that game so far. Hopefully some of it gets fixed if it's not just me. I love Indiana Jones, so I hope the story doesn't disappoint too, and that's really what matters!
Well maybe because I am such a fan of Indiana Jones but I really liked the last movie Dial of Destiny. The one before not so much. But Dial had a flashback that really did justice to the original. I guess I'm in the minority but I think it's worth your time to watch.
I hope the second half of Wind and Truth is mind-blowing. I can’t believe the comments about The Devils, just ignore them. Last week I finished a couple of Solomon Kane stories that were really good. I’m hoping to read/finish The Alloy of Law and Emperor’s Soul by Brandon Sanderson. I’ve loved everything I’ve read by Brandon Sanderson, the man is truly a genius, even if some people don’t like him. He might become my favorite author of all time.
You talk about basketball and it not being the same. For me, it’s wrestling. I grew up in the ‘90s watching WWF and WCW. But maybe I enjoyed it more because I was a kid watching with his Grandpa.
I like documentaries too though I usually watch true crime, historical or nature docs. I think the only sports ones I have watched were about Seabiscuit and Secretariat. Wow, people are so immature complaining because you got an ARC. Of course publishers would reach out to you. You have a big channel and can get it out there so more people are aware of the book. I'll be glad to see you and Patience get back to the media reviews. Understand this is a busy time of year, especially when you have kids.
I had a great reading week. I finished book 6 (and therefore, volume 4) of The Wandering Inn and rhe second part of The Perfect Run. I am currently rereading Gardens of the Moon, because 2025 is going to be the year of Malazan, so help me God, and also, for shits and giggles I'm listening to the audiobook for Daisy Jones and the Six
I told myself that I would also start my Malazan journey in 2025. But with so many other books in my tbr, I’m getting cold feet on starting such a daunting task
Hi Mike. That is so cool and great that you are enjoying Winds of Truth by Brandon Sanderson. I am really looking forward to getting into more of his books next year. Also, I trust you and Patrick more than a bunch of other people. On the other hand, I hope that you will trust and not lose patience with me for taking so long in getting to a few books that you have recommended to me. I hope that I am not being annoying for sending you my opinions and updates on those books so long after you have read them. Meanwhile, I am now 38% into volume 8 of the light novels, the Apothecary Diaries. On another note, I have been reading while listening to way more shorter books too. I probably only read and listened to 4 maybe 5 lover 500 page books and the rest have been 200 to 400 page books.
Cut out comics, movies/tv, music and video games this week to finish James Clavell - 'Shogun'. I enjoyed it though was disappointed for a number of reasons (don't want to even hint because of spoilers) so don't see myself reading any of the other Asian Saga novels though realized I had read 'King Rat' in high school. Read: 'Shogun' (1st read) - James Clavell Reading: 'Savant'(reread) (book 4 of Chaingang series) - Rex Miller, Spawn Compendium vol 6 (Image Comics)
I guess while I wait for the next Uncharted game, I can definitely get high on Indiana Jones game. Though first person is a bold choice when you have to climb temples.
I honestly admit to being hugely jealous of both this and other popular physical ARCs, and being in no position to ever score won without winning it in a contest (which I recently did, snagging a signed ARC of Anthony Ryan's A TIDE OF COLD STEEL, yay!). But griping at those luckier than me? What kind shit would that make me? If you want the ARCs, put in the work: build a review channel of your own and impress the publishers and authors you are hoping will gift you copies. There just aren't enough to go around folks. It is what it is
Another week already damn lol I have finished golden son and omf that ending was nuts now onto morning star I read the first chapter and excited to see what happens next this series is truly becoming one of my favorites if not my favorite. Glad you're loving the new Sanderson novel I still plan on checking him out eventually just don't know what series to start with
Regarding sports documentaries, the one that I really want to see is "Facing Nolan." I don't have any streaming, so I will need to pick it up on either DVD or Blue Ray. But I like what I've heard and am looking forward to seeing it.
Been playing CoD and Indy - enjoying both! Reading front I have been allowing my hatred for Lysander Au Lune, the absolute bellend, boiling point! I hope Darrow and Cassius chuck him into Olympic Mons (but I’m guessing a redemption arc is coming - bleurgh! Haha).
I put off watching it because I saw enough people saying that, but I’m glad I decided to check it out for myself because I disagreed. That’s not to say I would have been surprised if it was, but I didn’t find that to be the case.
Both Indy movies have been great. Both were amazing and great conclusion to series. Those who whine and complain aren’t real fans of it. They could’ve released game for ps4 too but nooo. They have to disrespected previous gen
@ I’m not. I saw both of them in theatre and both were good. Several people around me called last one best out of all of them. Quality wise it was solid and well concluded the series
I’m gonna need a glowing review of WAT to even finish ROW. It’s been such a slog for me this year and for me it is all the “other realm” stuff… I just don’t have the excess time to read something not holding me by the balls 😂
I can’t find myself to get exited about this book after the last couple. I hate to say it but Sanderson as good as he is at telling stories, is too PG for me. Lol I’m twisted…
I just finished up The Mercy of Gods by James S. A. Corey and I agree it's a huge step down in character development and overall quality storytelling. It has some tasty sci-fi elements and ideas but the book spends too much time with a group of forgettable characters researching blah blah blah.
This week I read 3 books2 of them more like novellas Red all systems red By Martha wells I thought it was pretty good not the Super banger that everyone seems to think it is But it was decent And Today I finished a short novel called time of death A nice little time travel story My big disappointment of the week was a star wars novel The Crystal Star I actually got so fed up with it about 2⁄3 away and I DNFed it. This is the 1st time I've ever done this to a star wars novel From the Legends cannon. It was clear to me that this author Has never actually read a star wars book or seen a single 1 of the original movies Completely wrong on all of the main characters It did not feel like it star war star wars novel at all The personalities of Han,Luke, and Leia were way off base. Kind of makes me worried for some of the other sci-fi novels I have by this author Even though I have read 2 of her star trek novels And I thought those were pretty decent
ummmmmmmmmmm i finished WaT a cpl of days ago. My experience is - this was a tough one to stomach for multiple reasons. I hope some of the decisions made for characters don't bewilder you as much as they did me because, i wont lie, this feels like a 15yr standing betrayal. It's so bizarre, I have never had this experience with any series ever and this was my fave. Nooooo longer lol.
I just finished it, and I’m sure it will take time to parse my feelings. He definitely went in different directions than I expected, which isn’t inherently bad, but some of the characters did not end up where I was hoping, and it’s going to be tough waiting a decade to get some answers about where they go.

Not at all! Move at the pace that works for you.
@mikesbookreviews Thanks.
Read: 'Shogun' (1st read) - James Clavell
Reading: 'Savant'(reread) (book 4 of Chaingang series) - Rex Miller, Spawn Compendium vol 6 (Image Comics)
I felt like WaT was the book I fell in love with Adolin.
Awesome!
I guess while I wait for the next Uncharted game, I can definitely get high on Indiana Jones game. Though first person is a bold choice when you have to climb temples.
I thought I’d hate it but somehow it works.
My plan for the second part of this month : finish the second volume of the First Law and start the last one...
Good plan.
It is what it is
I’m almost exactly where you are in Wind and Truth. I’m mostly enjoying it but could do without a few povs that I don’t care about.
I just need some action that isn’t in alternate realms. Enough of that already.
Another week already damn lol I have finished golden son and omf that ending was nuts now onto morning star I read the first chapter and excited to see what happens next this series is truly becoming one of my favorites if not my favorite. Glad you're loving the new Sanderson novel I still plan on checking him out eventually just don't know what series to start with
Morning Star is my favorite of the original trilogy
@emosongsandreadalongs I'm loving it so far feels like the series gets better by the book
Crazy ending
Regarding sports documentaries, the one that I really want to see is "Facing Nolan." I don't have any streaming, so I will need to pick it up on either DVD or Blue Ray. But I like what I've heard and am looking forward to seeing it.
It was really good!
@@mikesbookreviews Awesome! Thank you!
Haha).
Lysander is the worst.
Will you reread The Devils on launch to see if they make changes? Where does it rank in your Abercrombie book ones?
I read it in 8 days. It’s actually a quick read (helps if you have a Kindle and can’t see where you are 😉
Dang
@ I saw the book at Barnes and Noble tonight and had to laugh at how huge it is. It really didn’t seem that long on my Kindle!
That person who spoiled the ending you should never read his comments again. That is just wrong, and that person should know better.
I hated Crystal Skull so much that I put off watching Dial of Destiny, but it was surprisingly decent. Definitely worth checking out.
no its woke propaganda
I put off watching it because I saw enough people saying that, but I’m glad I decided to check it out for myself because I disagreed. That’s not to say I would have been surprised if it was, but I didn’t find that to be the case.
@@JARHuygebaerthow?
Hey, the first 20 minutes of Dial of Destiny was pretty amazing! Just watch that and skip the rest
🤣
Both Indy movies have been great. Both were amazing and great conclusion to series. Those who whine and complain aren’t real fans of it. They could’ve released game for ps4 too but nooo. They have to disrespected previous gen
👍
Do not confuse nostalgia with quality. Indy 4 and 5 were objectively very underwhelming. Not for Harrison Ford but just script and pacing wise.
@ I’m not. I saw both of them in theatre and both were good. Several people around me called last one best out of all of them. Quality wise it was solid and well concluded the series
Are you going live with other book tubers and perhaps Ryan Cahill again 1. Januar? It was an awesome start on 2024...
Haven’t really talked about it. Ryan is busy trying to finish his next book.
I have the Bill Walton 30 for 30 on my DVR. I love and miss that guy so much. He made me put on tye dye and got me in the bus of the Dead
I remember when the Celtics brought him in for 1986 and everyone thought they were nuts. it worked out.
@ my favorite basketball team ever. Then the 1996 Bulls
Wind and Truth not availability in Europe? Only UK version. Have all the US hardcovers. A shame... Maybe next year.
Hmm. Not sure.
I’m gonna need a glowing review of WAT to even finish ROW. It’s been such a slog for me this year and for me it is all the “other realm” stuff…
I just don’t have the excess time to read something not holding me by the balls 😂
Ha! Row was a slog.
I'm just done with day 1 😭😭 about to start day 2 but between work.and Xmas parties I've had no time to read.
Also people need to give others at LEAST a month, more like 2 to drop spoilers...
Ha ha no rush!
you gotta checkout POE 2 Mike
I’m racking my brain trying to figure out what POE is.
Hot take, kingdom of the crystal skull is not that bad.
First half I like. As soon as Mutt goes Tarzan of the Apes it goes Star Wars prequel for me.
How could someone watch a channel called Mike’s book reviews and be mad that he received an advance review copy and then reviewed the book??
🤷♂️
I can’t find myself to get exited about this book after the last couple. I hate to say it but Sanderson as good as he is at telling stories, is too PG for me. Lol I’m twisted…
I’ve heard that from several people.
Have you Colin Cowherds take on the NBA these days? I normally don't agree with him but he made some good points.
The product is damn near unwatchable now.
I just finished up The Mercy of Gods by James S. A. Corey and I agree it's a huge step down in character development and overall quality storytelling. It has some tasty sci-fi elements and ideas but the book spends too much time with a group of forgettable characters researching blah blah blah.
Really shocked me how disappointing that book was.
I thought Murderbot was fine but didn’t get the over the top praise.
Has something happened to your left eye? It seems to be in a worse shape than the other.
Allergies are a hell of a thing.
@mikesbookreviews Ah, I see. Understandable. Get well soon. You gonna need healthy eyes for the reading 😂
There are some bitter people out there unfortunately.
💯
When the first Kraven comic came out wasn't interested at all. Thought it was a lame super hero. And I agree who green lights this crap?
Morons always seem to fail upward in that industry.
ummmmmmmmmmm i finished WaT a cpl of days ago.
I am hearing this opinion more and more often. Sanderson himself said that this books could ruin him.
I just finished it, and I’m sure it will take time to parse my feelings. He definitely went in different directions than I expected, which isn’t inherently bad, but some of the characters did not end up where I was hoping, and it’s going to be tough waiting a decade to get some answers about where they go.
