  • Hi everyone, I hope you are well.
Here's a video I took walking inside McAllister Place on a Saturday morning in late June 2022. I went there to have lunch with my family and it was lovely. A nice mall with plenty stores and a cozy food court.
I hope you enjoy the video and thank you for watching. 😀

This mall opened it's doors on November 1, 1978 at 10AM that morning, Dini. It's original layout did not include the portion that would later contain Sears(now The Brick, Mark's, and Urban Planet now). The wing that now has The Brick opened on August 2, 1989, with Sears Canada opening it's doors that day as well after they left Lansdowne Ave. in Saint John's North End the previous Saturday.
It would be in 2009 that McAllister Place would be renovated throughout, giving the mall, that had a patchwork of different looks inside, the same aesthetic throughout.
The significant dates for McAllister Place's evolution.
Wednesday, May 17, 1978-Opening of KMart at McAllister Place.
Wednesday, November 1, 1978-McAllister Place Grand Open(1st Era of MP starts here).
Wednesday, August 2, 1989-Sears Canada opens along with it's expansion wing(new mall logo launches; 2nd Era starts here).
Saturday, November 14, 2009-Renovated MP opens(new mall logo launches; 3rd Era starts here).
Thursday, October 10, 1996-Toys R' Us opens, taking the spot once occupied by the original Sobeys.
Wednesday, August 24, 2016-Sobeys closes at McAllister Place, ending a 38+ year association with the mall.
Tuesday, September 25, 2018-Marshall's/HomeSense opens in the former 2nd Sobeys space.
And thank you for making MP look good, Dini. =)

That's amazing! Thank you so much for the info. I didn't know the mall had such a long history. I pinned your comment to the top so people can learn the history of the mall as well. Thanks again! 😃

I lived in Saint John NB in 2002/2003 it's nice to see this mall again. Reminds me of the malls in Ontario. Thanks for sharing.
