Hey, everyone. This is Ben. Many of you have asked whether this is for ADN or BSN registered nurses. The numbers represent averages based on all types of registered nurses combined, regardless of degree type, position, experience, or specialty. However, the Bureau of Labor Statistics does not include self-employed RNs in their data. Thanks for watching, and thanks for all of the comments and likes on the video. I appreciate it.
Well, if they paid us that amount in wages, I can almost guarantee they would increase our patient workload to offset the increase. I’m not holding my breath for an increase in wages. 🤷♀️
Being a RN, we don't get paid enough with all the work we do and the abuse we have to put up with from the doctors who most don't have a clue. Its a very stressful job and since the pandemic many of us have decided to give it up. God Bless our nurses, one of the hardest jobs on the planet.
This pandemic is going to put nursing on its head with regard to salary.. everyone is gone to travel. Hopefully that will wake these administrators up and pay nurses what were worth. EVERY nurse needs to be paid no less than $45/hr for the abuse we take.
Graduated from NJ last year 2020. Starting pay for me with no experience in nj was only $37/hr. After about 8 months it get bumped up to $40/hr. with night diff. currently making $45. after exactly a year of experience I got a NY ICU position with base is $50/hr + nights $3/hr. so going into my 2nd nursing Im pretty happy to get $53/hr but hope there is more room for growth!
MORE ROOM FOR GROWTH😳😳😳😳. There are nurses with WAY more clinical experience then you and don't make that much. If you get a long slow drought, I'd still be happy with that salary. Thats not typical given your experience. Thats NP pay where I'm at in Georgia.
@@Me-gh4qu you haveta consider the cost of living. Trust me, making 53 dollars an hour with the high cost of rent and god forbid mortgage, car insurance, just to name a few. It balances itself out.
Everyone needs to bear in mind that all the numbers that are presented are for a FULL TIME benefitted position, that is 40 hours/week or 2080 hours/year, good luck finding one. Everybody at the hospital I worked for before retiring end of 2020 were PART TIME benefitted. For California (my current state) it pays the most but keep context in mind , it is also the highest cost of living. If you don't spend at least a million dollars to buy a home, it will likely be over 50 years old and you'll still spend 400-500k for that and homeowners insurance just keeps rising because of the fires. Rental prices are more than a monthly mortgage. Gas prices are currently 4 to 5 dollars a gallon. It is very crowded and the roads are always congested and a lot of people commute long distances daily to work. Taxes, both state income and property taxes are very high. So everyone needs to keep that in mind for the $120,560/$57.96 reported in the video. Good Luck.
Wait what?!? Maybe in CA, here in TX they are giving out sign on bonuses for full time RNs ranging from 15k-20k most given in a year. We need staff and cant fill positions due to increased agency demand.
@@pvelardeNP What I would like to know is what city in California are they talking about? Cause that's not the case in CA since 2020, now in places like LA, SD, or SF, there has been times NPs are in short demand because there are so many RNs trying to get into these positions in these larger cities, kind of like MDs. They tend to want to stay in major cities. Even in smaller cities in CA, NP positions can be hard to come by, before 2020. Now that things are a little better, this trend with NPs is coming up again with full time NPs, but I had a meeting with directors from hospitals across southern CA and 200 med surgical fulltime positions go unfilled every year. So, not trying to belittle anyone, I wonder what positions is this person talking about? Cause, just people everyone has a RN licensure, that certainty doesn't mean everyone has the same skill set or capacity to do a job or will to do it. Of course everyone wants to make what top 90% nurse makes, but they are also nurses you wouldn't trust if they weren't being baby sat by someone else. In California, you just need to learn how to navigate how the economy we have here. Something nurses in CA won't tell you is that many live way beyond their means whether they make 100, 200, 300K+ and many have no sense of finance whatsoever so they overpay for a lot of things, but if cared to do their homework, which some don't they could be well off. Lets not forget Traveling Nurse wages! If you really want to make money in this field, become a TN! I know TN's that are currently making over $90/hr. regular pay, and then when the OT comes into play, you're making bank! $200k-$300k is achievable if you're willing to put in the work! This is an extreme case, but is pretty common as a TN, but even if you're making base pay of $50/hr. as a TN, which is easy to do, then doing the math with a 36/hr. work week, that's $93,600/yr (that's if you choose every week of the year). Lets say you actually work 50hr weeks, which is very common. That would attain you 14hrs of time and a half pay. Time and a half pay would be $75/hr., and at 14hrs/week of OT, that would net you an extra $1,050/week, which is an extra $54,600/year on top of your base pay. Add this to your base pay, and you're making $148,200/yr. See how this is just the way to go! Lets not forget that the companies also pay for you housing and food, and some pay for your traveling costs. So add all that into the equation, and you're either getting free food and housing, which are the biggest expenses in life usually. That's probably an extra $2500-$3000/month that the hospital is paying you for that stuff, of which you can choose to live and eat frugally, or spend it all on housing and food. Either way, that money is yours and is extra to you. So is not hard to earn $200k/yr as a TN. You just have to be smart in who you work for, where you work, and have the desire to actually WORK!!

I just got a job training as a new grad LVN in California making $30 an hour, when I’m Done training I’ll be bumped up to $32 which is crazy to me since I’m from Minnesota and it’s $20 or less for an LPN. Obviously cost of living is higher here.

The dark purple states have the highest salary but the cost of living is very high, high state taxes, etc. , so it just balances out. The most important thing though is not how much you make but how much you spend. Just a food for thought.

Hello, I have a question for all nurses! I am currently thinking about going to school for my BSN. One thing I keep hearing from nurses is that they are extremely underpaid, which worries and confuses me. The nurses I know in my personal life make great money and are able to afford a comfortable life and go on vacation. But then I see a lot of people say they are underpaid. So I’m wondering if this is the right path for me because I want a stable life financially. Any advice is so appreciated!
It really depends on how you manage and leverage ur money. If you depend on exchanging ur hours for pay then you will get very exhausted overtime. I would invest a portion of ur money since you will get paid more than an average person to somewhere that will give you passive income. You will come to realize that it is a mental and physical draining job since you are doing everything on ur own and from my perspective it is always short staff. You got this! :)
It’s exhausting. I’m a new grad and I’m definitely disappointed. Overtime is not an option for me. I sit in my car trying to convince myself to go into the shift every time and not just drive off.
East Tennessee my base pay on nightshift fulltime was 18$/hr. After shift diff and weekends that went up to about 24$/hr. In Georgia they offered me 23$/hr for full time. I work prn because I don't need the benefits.
My current base pay is only $24/hr I work nights so I do get a shift differential, but I'm always shocked when I see just how much my facility underpays.
@@sct4040 I recently got two raises to make my pay more "competitive", which raised it to $27. But even still, after my two years of experience are done(in June), I'm going to begin looking elsewhere.
I agree that nurses deserve to be paid a lot, however, if you go into a hospital now it seems like Alot of them don’t wanna do any work. They’re at the nurses station gossiping and on their phones or walking around head down o their phones. Some of them are rude to the patients and don’t wanna have good bedside manner. Only Half the time is it that I come across a good nurse. It had become so trendy because of the money and that shouldn’t have a place in healthcare. It’s serious business
Why bother? It is substantially different. You dont directly work with people in need, which is the reason why people become a nurse to begin with. You want to be paid more, just study software, hardware, financial engineering. Or literally any other STEM degrees.

Done training I’ll be bumped up to $32 which is crazy to me since I’m from Minnesota and it’s $20 or less for an LPN. Obviously cost of living is higher here.
Hi from Philippines, It is my dream to work abroad. Thank you for this video, it motivates me more to study harder 😍
Just pass the NCLEX first
We’d love to have you!
Why not stay in Philippines? America is full
@@agbaya5314 So why are they complaining of shortage

$27-35 for the last 8 years, I have two masters degrees, just got a raise one week ago… Tucson arizona
Two masters degrees?!

Yeah. she crazy!!
I’m only LPN & I make $28.85 hourly already!
And this new job of mine,
I’ve just been there for 2 years!
And I know relatives who are RN
when they started their jobs
fresh out of school,
Only for a 3 year nursing degree,
they were making like
$90K a year already! Lol
I'm Registered Nurse from Pakistan and my dreams work in Abroad like America🇺🇸 Canada🇨🇦 InshaAllah One day May Allah fulfill all dreams of our Nurse's

I hope both of you make it and work with me soon ^___^. I met a pakistani nurse in the Philippines. He was a GENIUS.
MashaAllah, May Allah bless you.
You and everyone else in the world. We are full!
Its interesting, you can make over $100,000 a year and be considered low income in some parts of California. In the 50's you would be considered rich. These days rents being 3 to 4 grand a mo. People wonder why we think home ownership is a fantasy.
Agree - LA basin, San Diego, Bay Area - if your making 100-170k you are in the middle of middle income.
That’s because how much of HORRIBLE democrat policies there are there. All blue states are crappy to live in. CA is a crap hole because they keep voting democrat.
Can you do one for LVN salaries?
Yes, we deserve more, but 38.00 before COVID was only part of the story...benefits should be included as well...Now, having said that COVID wages need to be much more than that, to be sure...I switched to agency RN status, and the $$$ is much higher, but you really work for it, and staff RN's are not happy about agency RN's at times..I receive the hardest assignments, and heard one staffer say..well, I guess you'll really be earning that high salary...I do not get benefits, so the hourly wage compensates for the lack of benefits...
I can agree with that Bay Area number. Their are Kaiser Permanentes everywhere and the starting salary is $67/hr for RNs. My sister in law works for the one I Sacramento (Roseville actually) and makes $89/hr. Bout a decade and a half experience. They get paid bank lol
Thank you so much for putting this together, amazing video ✨
New York, my baserate is 53, plus 5.5 experience differential.
The dark purple states have the highest salary but the cost of living is very high, high state taxes, etc. , so it just balances out.
The most important thing though is not how much you make but how much you spend. Just a food for thought.
RN here in ca makes over $100k. It depending on which hospital you work for…
A lot of hospitals around philly just increased starting wages to between $40-50/hr.
Just got an offer in Philly for $38 and hour (I’m a new grad). It goes to $46 after 1 year so I’m not complaining!
What i like to hear, start my absn next year!
@@laxerbrah11 do you mind sharing where? If you do I completely understand. Also, did you receive a sign-on bonus?

New grads making $60-70 an hour in Northern California
Florida is low as hell too
Why is it low to u? Just curious
Same here in Georgia
Florida is lower than many states but keep in mind that we only pay federal tax here. I moved here from NY and though my hourly wage is lower I bring home close to the same amount of money in Florida due to decreased tax.
Even $65,000 is a lot. Live below your means, don't go out buying designer bags and a BMW that will depreciate. Invest. Life is easy.
Can you do PN salary next?
Just seen a staff RN job in MED surg paying $35/hr and a covid tester $35/hr NO LICENSE REQUIRED! NOW THATS BULL CRAP! We have degrees and student loan debt and for what?! They need to pay RNs at least $60/hr! Heck CNAa are getting $20/hr MAKE IT MAKE SENSE
That’s not true…RN salary totally SUCKS. I have $27/hr only in Miami, Fl in hospital. The only increase is the work load. 6-8 patient. 6 patient regular load and if there’s admissions goes to 8 patients. And no support from the hospital administration.. they will say yes, there is coming RN to help, but my 12 hour shift is ended NO Help is arrive in the unit… and this is the only hospital that held the New RN Intern captive / hostage. If you want to resign early than 2 years. You are going to pay for $5,000.00. If you believe it , I have the contract and it’s an evidence.. RN wages SUCKS. Work loads are the only increases. And to much of bullying from the senior RN and threats from the Nurse director’s. Imagine 6-8 patient is too much, more work load comprising the patient care and most of all comprising patient safety……
Yea bay area Cali pays great but taxes and living expenses are high....very high
With almost 27 years at the bedside, take my advice, it ain't worth it.
me a year in and already exhausted
@@kimlee4176 20 yrs and they way they're abusing us now, nope
My Mom was a RNA and worked in a geriatric locked ward. The abuse (most not on purpose, sometimes on purpose), the amount of work, the schedule during they have to keep. She's beat, falling apart and full of arthritis. Things are much better then when she started in the 70's, now there are lifts to help move patients, better bathing situations. Injuries are high.
I’m over here struggling trying to pass the nclex thinking I would make decent money 😭
Did you ever think about going into a different speciality?
Where I used to work the hospital didn’t pay ICU and CCRN differential.
Do these statistics include advanced practice RN's like midwives, or nurse anesthetist's, or is this just regular ADN/BSN RN's?
Great Job Ben!!! ✅
East Tennessee my base pay on nightshift fulltime was 18$/hr. After shift diff and weekends that went up to about 24$/hr. In Georgia they offered me 23$/hr for full time. I work prn because I don't need the benefits.
My current base pay is only $24/hr
I work nights so I do get a shift differential, but I'm always shocked when I see just how much my facility underpays.
Get another job😭 I know LPN making way more than 24. As an RN you should be making minimum 30 dollars
You need to move on.
@@sct4040 I recently got two raises to make my pay more "competitive", which raised it to $27. But even still, after my two years of experience are done(in June), I'm going to begin looking elsewhere.
Jeeze..Almost makes you want to just go get a factory job with 3/4 of that pay and 3/4 less of a headache
Thank you so much for the information!
This is so helpful for negotiating
I agree that nurses deserve to be paid a lot, however, if you go into a hospital now it seems like Alot of them don’t wanna do any work. They’re at the nurses station gossiping and on their phones or walking around head down o their phones. Some of them are rude to the patients and don’t wanna have good bedside manner. Only Half the time is it that I come across a good nurse. It had become so trendy because of the money and that shouldn’t have a place in healthcare. It’s serious business
I need one for of these but for dental assistants
ahh but of course Alabama would pay the least amount. just as we had all expected 🙃

Also that was very informative, Ben Dover, thank you. ^u^
Can someone elaborate on what a business support RN do?
following for reply
Why bother? It is substantially different. You dont directly work with people in need, which is the reason why people become a nurse to begin with. You want to be paid more, just study software, hardware, financial engineering. Or literally any other STEM degrees.
Are this numbers before or after taxes?? Plz respond

Could you please talk about how international nurses can go to work in America?
Find an agency and apply for work visa. If you’re an international nurse, they will still require you to take NCLEX-RN here in the US and in some states will require you to take both NCLEX-RN and IELTS.
@@crazygirl4577 in addition to this before you can take the nclex RN as an international nurse you will have to go through CGFNS. CGFNS will give you the go ahead to take the nclex RN

Prob BSN and location/speciality.
They usually are paid the same if not specialized.
I got 0 raise only student loans for getting a bsn.
you get an extra dozen ears of corn per pay period in Iowa
The business support services I can think of are the RNs who are clinical documentation specialists who work in the Health Information Management (HIM) or work with Electronic Health Record software companies such as EPIC, eclinical works, etc.
Just wondering if it matters if the person is a BSN v. associates degree, etc How about other specialties like nurse educator or manager. Our fields are short, short, short.
Hello. The BLS data is for all types of registered nurses. They don't make a distinction between degree type, specialty, etc. However, they do not include RNs that are self-employed in their data.
It shouldn’t since they still do the same work lol.
If you have to explain what an average is to RNs they shouldn't be RNs 🤣 even student RNs. That's something you learn in elementary school.

Do you have an employer in New York that can petition nurses in the Philippines with NCLEX passed?
All the major medical centers are hiring in NYC. What is petition? You mean a J1 visa. They all do. Mount sinai, NY presbyterian at Columbia and Cornell, Lenox Hills, NYULANGONE, LIJ.
What about BSN
So is this average for 2 yr R.N or 4 yr R.N ?
I don’t think the length of the program matters if you still graduated and got your license as an RN. As long as you’re an RN and not an LPN this video should apply. Hope this helps
