From what I've tried so far from the Library Collection, Opus VII is one of my favorites. I'd like to get a bottle of it eventually. Today, I'm enjoying wearing "Versace Pour Homme Oud Noir".
Hello, Ramsey. I have studied this Opus VII since 2020, from the time when it was in the gray/black bottle, and I also have the opportunity to study it in detail in the current version. That's right, this monument masterpiece in perfumery, is a ruthless, extremely green, spicy and metallic leather. The metallic character is given by the overdose of galbanum, in combination with Cypriol and pink pepper. The extremely green and spicy character, almost burning your nostrils, is given by a melange of spices: here cardamom, nutmeg and, surprise, fennel (here fennel is a species related to cumin, hence the similar character to that of cumin), but another interesting spice was used: Fenugreek - which has culinary and gastronomic properties through its seed reminiscent of curry dishes. Finally, the leathery character is given by an overdose of labdanum, oud Assafi (Assam Oud) and patchouli. I spoke privately with Christoper Chong, a person extremely kind and open to talking with true enthusiasts, and he confirmed to me that in the first batches real ambergris was used, which I would be happy to find even today. And finally, a melange of resins and roots ala Amouge: Omani Franckincense, Cypriol and Costus root, which amplifies the perfume even more and gives it its oriental signature character. An exceptional perfume. Great job of discusing everyting must know about this masterpiece!
Thanks so much for a beautiful comment & for watching I have also found Chong very open to chatting although I haven't had a chance to meet him in person yet! That bit about the Ambergris is interesting 🐳
☆Beautiful review, I must say, if Opus VII is less challenging than Figment, then I'm definately not too scared to try! Been loving my Myths decants. I am starting to get a better grip on the unveiling, interplay, and developments of the notes over time. Can't wait to see the review of Figment!!! Nice to see another Amouage review from you Ramsey. I've been on the lookout for an older bottle of Opus VII for a while (hard to find in Canada). I've been really loving Amouage's older collection - you should really try Figment again if you get a chance (it's one of my favourites from the house, but I know many dislike it). I do enjoy Opus VI and IX. I think I prefer Opus VII to Fate though, I find Fate a little too culinary at the opening. Edit: Just noticed you had a bottle of Figment sitting behind you ahaha... of course you do. Do you find the newer bottle smells much different from the old?
@@RamseytheRamI figured that might be. I've ordered some decants of the new one and might be able to get some 2ml testers (which might be the old). We'll see!
This one is a love! No probs with the new bottles here, and while I’ve smelled both old and new I have not smelled them side by side. I have no reason to protest. Opus XII Rose Incense is Chong’s last Amouage and was inspired by the movie Citizen Kane. I’m assuming the “rosebud” scene. It’s one of my favorites from the Opus line (along with this one and Royal Tobacco, and maybe Opus VI but I need more time with that one). Lovely, calming, fairly simple rose incense apparently with an ink accord I really need to dig for. Very nice! Crossing my fingers for a Top Whatever of the Opus line once you’ve gotten through them all! 😊
Cheers Rams ,sounds amazing, most probably a winner for me ,folks in the comments seem to appreciate the new bottle and juice as not inferior, now that’s promising for sure 🙏✌️👍
As an Amouage fan, I really enjoy most of their releases, some are my favorite fragrances ever, been wearing Overture Man yesterday, but this one never became one of the loved ones from this house. I enjoy it a lot, don't get me wrong, but there is something there that sits wrong with me when I try it. Nevertheless, a great perfume! Cheers!
Nice one Ramsey, i just picked up an old bottle since I had VI and VIII already. I LOVE those two but honestly reckless leather is the first fragrance i had an exteme negative reaction to. On me I got straight curry and couldnt get it off for 2 days haha. I'm going to keep it to get my little set together and to maybe train my nose to enjoy it over time. It was the same reaction to overture with the sweaty cumin note but even more aggresive with the fenugreek and strong spices.
@@RamseytheRam great plan! Definately a keeper even just for the way the old library bottles look next to each other. I really feel like they had some of the most beautiful designs and a shame with the new dull looking bottles. BTW you've quickly become the main channel myself and a couple of friends watch, love your videos and genuine opinions!
Galbanum in Opus Vii reminds me on galbanum in drydown of Beach Hut man. I've read somewhere that, when Alberto morillas was asked about his reminissence on Opus VII, firstly he couldnt reember and then he said "oh yes i kniw, for me it is the smell of seaside peeble"
Seaside pebble 🤔 Maybe he was confused about which scent he was discussing lol

Amouage Opus line… I’ve been collecting those (FB and 10ml bottles) , started 2-3 months ago, and Opus X is my favorite so far!! Have you gave that one a try?? ✌🏼
Maybe I smell what I assume the costus way more than other people - not sure I will ever get past it. To me it smells like a beaver (wet hair) wading through greenery and sticks in a river. Most things I was told were challenging didn't bother me, this sample will take major adjusting too haha
Honestly, while I'm way less in the know about whole fragrance world I don't see O7 being difficult scent at all, instant love for me. I've tested new version vs old version (from official sample), imho they are (or were) the same. Still... its possible release version of O7 was different as I suspect that sample was rather recent, probably made shortly before recent changes to opus line.
I've been curious about this one. So far, the only one from the Library Collection I have tried is Rose Incense (which I immediately bought). I'm still exploring leather frags and so far have found that I like them straightforward (Ombre Leather), soapy (Lonestar Memories), and spicy (Cuir Sacre). I don't think I've tried a green leather yet so this sounds really interesting to me. I will have to snatch a few samples or a decant so I can get to know it.
ABSOLUTELY 🖤🖤🖤 intoxicated 🔥
